  1. Taking space for granted, the 380 pilots...? B)

That would definitely be the case if and only they were not taxiing on the center line of the taxiway. Just wondering if the relevant airport authorities actually did any calculations of the A380 wingspan and if that particular taxiway was approved for an A380 to taxi or if that CRJ's total fuselage length allowed it to be parked at that particular parking bay. So many questions left unanswered. :drinks:

  2. Kuala Lumpur, 13 April 2011 – When AirAsia Group CEO and Team Lotus co-principal Dato’ Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes agreed to a friendly wager with Virgin Group & Marussia Virgin Racing’s Sir Richard Branson on the sidelines of the 2010 Bahrain Formula One GP, little did they expect the twists, turns and obstacles they would have to go through to complete the wager.

9 months and 19 races later, at the spectacular Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, Dato’ Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes’ Team Lotus came out tops and just when the whole world were getting ready to see Sir Richard Branson don the red and sexy AirAsia female flight attendant uniform and be an AirAsia crew for a day there was another twist in the tale. Richard ruptured a ligament after colliding into a teenager on the ski slopes in Switzerland; well, that’s how the story goes anyway.

Five months after the colourful evening in Abu Dhabi, the day of reckoning for Sir Richard Branson has finally arrived. On May 1, 2011, onboard AirAsia flight D7 08 from London to Kuala Lumpur, Sir Richard Branson will don AirAsia’s famous red female flight attendant uniform and strut down the aisle to offer coffee, tea or any other food or beverage to Tony Fernandes and 250 other guests on the special 13-hour KL-bound flight.

This not-to-be-missed opportunity to join two of the most illustrious characters in aviation and make history 35,000 feet in the sky for charity will be available for booking online at www.AirAsiaGo.com with three charity package options from 13 April, 2011, until 07:00hrs (GMT +8), 24th April 2011.

A total of 160 tickets onboard this special flight would be made available for sale on AirAsiaGo.com. Flight tickets for this once in a lifetime experience are available at GBP4,500, while flights and accommodation packages start at GBP5,200 for a single accommodation and GBP5,000 for twin sharing.

Guests on the charity flight can look forward to being entertained by world-class acts such as UK’s very own DJ Jarren C who will spin at the pre-departure event at Stansted; and DJ Dan Healy, who has entertained at after-parties for Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson, Jay-Z, and Justin Timberlake.

Spellbinding street magician Dynamo will also be on board to mesmerize. Eddie Jordan, who has put a host of drivers on the world stage including Hill, Mansell, Schumacher, and Senna amongst many others will be performing with his 4-piece band ‘Eddie & The Robbers’ on board the flight as well. Also lookout for actor and comedian James Corden, star of shows Gavin & Stacey and Horne & Corden on BBC; amongst an unforgettable line-up which has been arranged for the charity flight.

Guests who can’t be on the flight, but would like the chance to be entertained by Sir Richard Branson, Dato’ Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes, and a host of top British and Malaysian celebrities, including Formula One Legend, Eddie Jordan in Kuala Lumpur can purchase tickets to the Charity Cocktail Party at GBP350 on May 2, 2011. All tickets and packages are available on AirAsiaGo.com with all proceeds going to beneficiaries to be determined by Dato’ Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes & Sir Richard Branson.

Dato’ Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia Berhad & Principal of Team Lotus comments, “We’ve come a full circle, Richard and I. Who would’ve thought my mentor will be serving as a flight attendant on AirAsia? I’ve got my razor ready, and I can’t wait to shave his hairy legs! Jokes aside, how we got to this charity flight is a testament that we can achieve anything if we are fueled by passion, grit, determination and never take no for an answer. Team Lotus, a Malaysian F1 team, supported by AirAsia, an ASEAN airline has beaten the odds on the race track and on the air, and there will be more to come. I am also glad that we are able to contribute to those in need through this charity flight as well.”

All proceeds collected from the sale of the charity packages and special collector items at the auction during the charity cocktail evening which include personal items from Dato’ Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes and Sir Richard Branson will be channeled towards beneficiaries to be determined and announced by AirAsia & Virgin Unite at a later date.

    Official PR.

  3. SIBU: A helicopter crashed at the town square here Monday afternoon, just opposite a hotel where Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is due to attend a function.

City police chief Shafie Ismail said the pilot was severely injured and has been admitted to hospital.

There was no one else in the helicopter, he added.

It is learnt that Muhyiddin had arrived in another helicopter at the same place, just a few minutes before the crash.

The crashed helicopter, among three carrying Muhyiddin's entourage, crashed in a field at 1.50pm while lifting off to return to Sibu airport.

  5. I doubt it was that they didn't get their prebooked meal. It is always recommended for you to prebook your meals online if you decide to eat. Food on board will be limited and there is no assurance or guarantee that everyone will be able to buy their preferred meal on board.

Think of it this way, preloading stacks and stacks of meal on board for a certain sector and only one person decides to purchase food. Not too cost worth right? Moral of the story, prebook.

  6. Just to add a few more customary shots.

  7. I am no expert at spotting at KUL and I just happened to be there yesterday to send my bro and his family off on that MH B744 flight to LHR.

Is it more normal for them to use 32R (instead of 14R) for departures in the morning?

Flee, 95% of the time RWY32 is in used (L for landing and R for take off). Yesterday RWY 32R/14L was undergoing calibration and at the time when you were at AT, RWY 14 was in use. :drinks:

  8. Actually no suspense lah. It was just another great day with great skies and light. But I can say it was a pretty "heavy" day.

  9. After the heavy downpour today morning, it was all sunny and blue skies today. My only aim was to catch this elusive bird which makes its maiden appearance in KUL ever since she underwent her C1 check & repainting.

    HS-ABJ-WMKK-04-04-11.jpg

HS-ABJ with the Carabao "30 Years Anniversary" livery. Simply stunning, enough said.

Will edit and share more as there were some surprises too. For the mean time, enjoy!

  10. Yesterday around 11.30PM or so Runway 32L/14R was closed up till about 3-4AM. Many aircrafts were delayed and were asked to hold at many different areas. Landing was on 14L and takeoff was from 32R A9 due to work still in progress at A10 & A11. Hon Kit alerted me when 14 was in use and watching the radar was simply mind boggling, 14L landing, 32R take off!

I heard it was a MH aircraft that skidded which resulted in a tyre burst? Anyone with any genuine info?

Here's a picture showing AK722 holding while waiting for 9M-MPP to take off via 32R.

  11. It's that time of the year again! The cargo movement in KUL for the F1 race. Today SQC came in even before anyone could wake up and leave before anyone can wake up too! Anyone with any information of any carrier feel free to share.

  13. Any news about the aerotrain? Today supposed to be the rescheduled date of the recommencement of the service after a week of delay from the original date - 16 March 2011.

    Or delay again?

I believe they are already back to service. Personally saw the trains do so many runs from the MTB to the Satelite terminal today.

  14. if you say it is pin programmed then it is just as the same as the 737 classic where there's no such thing as EEC and HMU like 737 NG, only MEC and PMC and a direct thrust control cable from the throttle lever to the MEC.

Sorry for the choice of words, but I believe it was already programmed in the ECU. I stand corrected anyways. :drinks:

  15. Can the thrust rating of the 5B4 be increased by the flight crew to the original 27k rating if necessary? In comparison MH B738 CFM56 engines can be rated at 26, 24 or 22k as needed, just by some selection on the FMC, depending on the need.

Capt, I don't think they can select anything above the 23.5 as it has already been pin programmed to provide a max of 23.5. I will check and revert to you when I have more information. :drinks:
