  1. Nice! This is my take of the cute B747SP from a slightly further location from the flightpath.

    VQ-BMS_9V.jpg

Some history about her from 747SP.com: She started off her career as N540PA with Pan Am on 1/5/1979 as Clipper White Falcon. Following Pan Am's demise, she was absorbed into United's fleet as N149UA, and was leased to Tajik Air for a short period of time in 1993. She was then acquired by the Brunei Government in 1995 where she took on the registration of V8-JBB and later V8-AC1, and undergone a conversion to a full glass cockpit. Following which, her next royal posting was to Bahrain in 1999 where she was re-registered as A9C-HMH until she was finally sold to Las Vegas Sands in mid 2008.

  2. FedEx MD-10-10F N68049 arriving back at Changi after an Air Test. Previously, this model was rarely seen in this part of the world as it often plies domestic and regional routes in the US. MD-10 aircraft are unique to FedEx as their DC-10 have a MD11 cockpit to eliminate the need for a Flight Engineer and enable common crew rating for both their DC-10 and MD-11 aircraft.

A second FedEx MD-10-10F N375FE coming as FX9085 from VCV via ANC and NRT. The special model designation 'MD10' is also painted on the nose of the aircraft.

  3. Some shots to share from today :)

Air Asia 9M-AFM 'Hats off to Dato Pahamin' operated AK707 from KUL this afternoon. It was a mad rush getting from 20 to 02 as the runway direction switched minutes before her estimated arrival time.

    9M-AFM_9V.jpg

Thai Airways TG413 HS-TEF was delayed from her original scheduled arrival time of 2+pm to 4.15pm instead, allowing us to photograph her in much better lighting conditions.

  4. Thanks Pieter! I was lucky that the sun shone through for once when these subjects arrived; the weather was horrible for the past week!

Yes, surprisingly 02 is still very much in use despite the fact that it is now mid-May. However, the runway direction now often switches between 02 and 20 depending on the wind direction and the mood of those in the control tower.

  5. 16 May 2010

Cathay Pacific sent in One World B77W B-KPL as CX717 today. :yahoo:

After months of chasing this elusive Bo Rocks 9M-AFD, our patience was finally rewarded as she came in great light as AK703.

Always nice to see PR sending in their larger aircraft into Changi again, such as this A343 RP-C3430

    RP-C3430_9V.jpg

Emirates seem to have an unsatiable hunger for 77Ws! After running out of the -EBx series, they had turned to the -ECx series which had also ran out and registered their newest 77W yet as A6-EGA when it was delivered to the carrier on 14/4/2010.

    A6-EGA_9V.jpg

    Cheers!

  6. Nice catch Kianhong and Raymond!

9V-STL as SQ330 from TLS...welcome home! Its always nice to photograph a crisp new livery.

Go Roos! VH-VQH from Bangkok. Many thanks to Liam for the heads-up

It was a pleasant surprise to discover that Etihad had retained the same timings as their winter schedule for the summer, which means that it is scheduled to arrive at 1830hrs. A6-EYQ was photographed on finals in the gorgeous warm evening sunlight.

  7. Some photos during the A332F Cargo Door Demonstration event on Monday morning.

A concerned Airbus captain ensures that the airstairs do not damage the body of the aircraft during the docking process.

The engine covers were removed before the demonstration to faciliate photography

    F-WWYE_enginecover-9V.jpg

The prototype A332F is powered by a pair of Pratt & Withney PW4127 turbofans instead of the recommended RR Trent 700 engines.

Striking red warning tabs protrudes out of the cargo door to warn the crew that the door is not locked. The tabs will automatically rotate to be flushed with the body as the locking mechanism engages.

  8. Garuda Indonesia Boeing 737-800 PK-GMF

PK-GMF was delivered to Garuda Indonesia on 23 December 2009 and features GA's new cabin product. This includes individual IFE systems in both economy and business class.

PK-GMF glistening under the mid-afternoon sun wearing the carrier's new Nature's Wings livery.

    PK-GMF_1-9V.jpg

    PK-GMF_3-9V.jpg

The distinctive front and side profile of Boeing's bestselling narrowbody product, with more than 6,000 of them delivered in the past 43 years. Personally, I still prefer the B737-800 anytime over the A320.

    PK-GMF-9V.jpg

Garuda Indonesia had opted to repeat the Nature's Wings livery on the blended wingtips as well.

    PK-GMF_winglet-9V.jpg

Due to the size of the aircraft, the tow truck executed a 3-point turn at the end of the taxiway to push the B738 tail first into the static aircraft display area.

A more frontal view which shows another perspective of Air Baltic's simple "Euro-white" livery.

The newest member of the popular Dash 8 family is powered by 2 PW150A turboprop engines.

    C-FZGL_prop1-9V.jpg

With such unbelievably blue skies in the morning, it certainly gave the impression that the photo was taken in Canada rather than in Singapore!

  9. Can trade visitors go in and out of the show? I mean like go out to take pics of the planes taxiing and then go back in to the static exhibition area.

The 'taxiway' itself is located within the restricted area next to the static exhibition area, so there is not a problem at all. However, yes it is possible to get out of the exhibition site and return if u have a trade pass, but you have to clear security twice. This is because the trade pass is a printed badge on a lanyard, and not a physical ticket.

    A-10 Thunderbolt II

Despite its unique looks which had earned it the less-than-glamorous nickname 'Warthog', this powerful aircraft executed a combination of low and high speeds strafing runs which led us gaping in awe at its extreme manoevurability.

The Thunderbolt II on one of her strafing demonstrations. The aircraft would typically climb to a high altitude before diving at high speed and make a tight turn to repeat the routine in front of the plaza. The green tinge on the belly is due to the fact that the display is carried out over the Straits of Johor.

    AF82652_1-9V.jpg

The A-10 executes a graceful turn showing its large straight wings and aft mounted high bypass turbofan engines. Meanwhile, a Thai Airways A333 continues its journey towards Bangkok at a higher altitude.

    AF82652_2-9V.jpg

The Thunderbolt II is not the prettiest of aircraft, especially when the huge split flaps, spoilers (which double as ailerons) and the undercarriage are deployed for a slow speed flypast.

    AF82652_3-9V.jpg

  10. Airbus A330-200F F-WWYE

This is also the first appearance of the A332F in the world outside Europe.

    F-WWYE_pushback-9V.jpg

    F-WWYE-34rearside-9V.jpg

The tagline of this remarkable aircraft - Efficient, Reliable, Profitable, which reflects what the airline cargo industry today demands.

    F-WWYE_34rear-9V.jpg

Front view of the A332F showing the twin Pratt & Withney engines.

    F-WWYE_front-9V.jpg

Closeup of the front of the aircraft. The "bump" is unique to the A332F, as the additional fairing is required to to raise the height at the front to create a level cabin floor in order to aid the loading of cargo on the ground.

    F-WWYE_nosefront-9V.jpg

    Enjoy! :)

  11. I think it will be the same gig like in LIMA 2009.

The USAF B52 doing a flypast only on the first day of the trade day.

    HTH.

Nope. The B52 will only do a fly-by on the first day of the public day , ie on 06 Feb 09 Saturday. The aircraft doing a fly-by on the first day of the trade day ie on 02 Feb 09 Tuesday will be a Boeing C-17 Globemaster.

The aircraft involved in the flying display:-

    RSAF F-16C *

    RSAF AH-64D Apache Longbow *

    Pilatus PC-21

    USAF A-10 Thunderbolt II

    KAI T-50

    Eurocopter EC 130

    Aermacchi M346

    RAAF F-111

(*will appear together as an integrated display, somewhat like LIMA after their individual performances)

The stars of the flying display would certainly be the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the RAAF F-111 as they were truly stunning and are new to S'pore Airshow 2010.

  12. :yahoo:Here are some more angles from the low level flypast. The gracefulness of the B772 was absolutely stunning at low speeds, and one has to witness it personally to believe :yahoo:

    I-DISE_MW.jpg

Following which, the undercarriage doors were opened briefly to retract the RAT and the aircraft executed a beautiful steep climbout.

Not to be left out, AK also sent 9M-AFJ on an early morning rotation from Langkawi. The starboard of the aircraft is different from the port side of the aircraft. On this side, Lat is seen proudly leading his cast of characters while bearing the Malaysian flag.

9M-AHQ Bank Rakyat had the honour of operating AK5806 from Penang. The agency stickers at the back of fuselage had started to peel off!

With such great weather, it was a joy to have the Brunei Sultanate's B767-200ER V8-MHB to drop in for a visit!

  14. As part of their service improvement, Garuda Indonesia had replaced their B733 / B734 services between Singapore and Jakarta with B738s. Seen here is PK-GER, the latest B737-800 to join their fleet thus far. The Nature Wings livery is growing on me!
