  1. Not really. I understand it never made money. I flew AK a few times to KL and their air fare was cheaper than MAS at RM555 for a return ticket. There were talks to replace their 733 with 32S but it never materialized and they sealed the deal to sell AK to Tune Air in late 2001.

Their 733 were configured with 8 Business Class seats which they marketed as Perdana Class. I had never seen anyone flying in their Perdana Class though. Yup, Perdana Class was always empty.

Good thing about AK compared to MH then was that they had wet towel service before departure, menu in Economy Class and the foods served generally were better than MH. The air fare was cheaper too :)

Besides they also planned to purchase B767-300 for flight to London. You know, when AK entering into market, i feel very delightful as finally we have 2 full service carriers in which 1 is govt and another 1 is private just like Japan (JAL&ANA),Korea(Korean Air&Asiana) and Taiwan (China Airlines&Eva Air)....

  2. Not everyone knows how to run a profitable airline! ;)

I guess its a case of once bitten, twice shy!

One would be a fool to try to start an airline now. Its probably cheaper to buy a bankrupt airline and downsize it to get better yields - a bit like what the management did at JAL.

yup!but their failure back then was due to the september 11 right?because they sold AK in 2002....

  3. Cebu, Zest and Air Asia Philippines?

Sorry...there's AirPhil Express...so that makes it 4 Philippines based airlines, inclusing AirAsia Philippines

I said filipino carriers that launched flights to KUL this year which are PQ, AirPhil and later Zest. Cebu Pacific already flies to KUL since few years ago.

  4. Yes, but not much in terms of marketing activities. When was the last time you saw an ad or online banner for Bangkok Airways?

quite a lot actually! in English newspaper such as The Star,NST,etc...btw you have go to bookstores such as MPH and open the travel-related magazines there then you will see PG ads/promo for USM-KUL route....

And 1 more thing, perhaps you didnt "like" PG official FB page? :)

  5. Reply to Cheng Long re my commenys about "whom did they bribe"

I have flown MAS more than a few times mainly business class. Satay is GREAT. Service also very good --friendly and efficient. ( But so is CX and EK. Sing is not so good service -wise anymore.)

The rest of the MAS experience? Not good.

Seats on Biz class are not true flat-bed. They incline, so after a while you slip down. Also narrow.

Food is dismal after the satay. Choice is limited. Last neal : beef rendang - inedible Balek Pulau Lembau -tough as hell

Sorry. But CX , SQ and EK do a beter job.

Is this the reason MH no longer fle to Dubai? They cant compete. Do try EK Biz Class . The mezze which is only an appitiser is a meal in itself. 180 degree fuul flat beds. They are staggered so even with a window seat you dont have to climb ober your fellow pax to go to the lavatory.

is EK also 5 star ?

    You bet

That is why MAS didnt win the award for best business class! They won the best cabin staff and the best signature dish! Make it sense right?!BTW, from my knowledge, the 5 star status is awarded to the carrier not only based on its in-flight services alone but to include the ground services as well. So how does EK ground services compare to MAS?

  6. One should remember that these planes were ordered a long time ago, by PMB.

The previous MAS management probably signed the contracts and there is no way to back out without suffering substantial penalties and further delivery delays. 3 years is probably the minimum period before the cabin can be refurbished (they have already made a minor change with the premium economy seats being replaced by business class seats) - the current management have no choice but to work with what they have inherited.

yup! agreed! this was actually happened to Lufthansa when they received their A380. Read about it in Airways mags.

  7. This Landor design is supposedly exclusive to the dugong fleet only - it has been mentioned and quoted a few times over already

The swoosh/Philippine flag design I suppose will be applied to the rest of the fleet ?

    :)

no, i meant only this aircraft will feature this livery right? are you sure the remaining 5 also will have the same livery?

  8. It's good to know that MH are seriously starting to think about replacing the B772s. I agree that they should be looking at the B787 or the A350. Again, their joining of OneWorld provides a wonderful opportunity to offer Australian and New Zealand passengers a one stop flight to various European cities. CDG and AMS are already daily. FRA should be daily too although QF does fly to FRA as well. Maybe MH could go daily and QF can code-share?

    FRA already terminated no?
