  1. Australian F-35s at Avalon

    25 Jan 2017

    Katherine Ziesing | Canberra

ADM understands that both AU-1 and AU-2, the first Australian F-35A JSFs, are planning on making their Avalon debut this year.

This of course is subject to availability, but it will be the first time locals will be able to see the jets up close on the static line. Both jets are currently working at Luke Air Force Base as part of the international training pool. The ADF currently has four pilots (all instructors) and four maintainers (three RAAF and one CASG) at Luke undergoing training.

Avalon this year will be a bonanza for plane spotters and aviation enthusiasts with a number of new RAAF platforms making their debut. This includes:

    • P-8A
    • C-27J Spartans
    • F-18G Growlers
    • EC135 helicopters for HATS
    • PC-21
    • F-model Chinooks (to be confirmed)

The foreign military line-up includes the USAF F-22A Raptor, F-16C Viper, and B-1B bomber, and Republic of Singapore Air Force F-15SG, among others. For more information, go to the Avalon Airshow 2017 website.

  2. MH370: new report proposes shifting plane search to unexplored area

Australia’s Transport Safety Bureau reveals it is ‘confident’ aircraft not in underwater zone that has been explored so far

    Tuesday 20 December 2016 02.44 GMT

But experts meeting in Canberra to reassess existing evidence and analysis say they are now confident the wreck of the plane is not there.

“There is a high degree of confidence that the previously identified underwater area searched to date does not contain the missing aircraft.”

New analysis of the satellite data, combined with drift analysis, has identified the most likely point that MH370 hit the water as being close to the so-called “seventh arc”, north of the current search zone.

  3. On the first day of the 2015 LIMA, 170315 (Tue), she was the WSO and did not pilot the J10 number 12.

    HTH.

    RIP. :(

BTW, do anyone know which plane she was piloting while performing at LIMA 2015? At least 1 of the online portal mentioned she is piloting aircraft no.9, But check back the photos taken at LIMA 2015 I do not see aircraft no.9.

  4. Captain Yu Xu performed at the 2015 LIMA Malaysia, RIP maam.

A female aerobatic pilot of the Chinese air force has been confirmed dead during a flying accident on Saturday.

Pilot Yu Xu was killed in a failed parachute jump when her plane crashed somewhere in Yutian County near north China's city of Tangshan.

The 30-year-old pilot, Yu Xu, is the first of the four female pilots in China capable of flying the country's third-generation J-10 jet fighter.

She piloted a training plane in the military parade marking the 60 anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic in 2009.

Her last public appearance was in the just-concluded Zhuhai Air Show. At the Airshow China, Yu Xu, Captain of China's Air Force, said: "Basically, we have no difference from male pilots."

Media reports said the accident involved two planes of the Bayi Aerobatic Performance Team of PLA's Air Force.

Yu's copilot was injured and is being treated in hospital.

No official comments have been made over the accident at this point.

It's reported an investigation has been underway.

  5. New Seletar Airport terminal could handle 700,000 passengers a year

By Loke Kok Fai Posted 20 Oct 2016 17:00

SINGAPORE: The new passenger terminal at Seletar Airport is designed for 700,000 passenger movements a year - up to four times the estimated maximum capacity of the current airport.

The two-story, 9,500-sqm terminal on the eastern side of Seletar Airport is expected to be completed by end-2018, the airport operator said at the new terminal's groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday (Oct 20).

The new terminal will be capable of parking up to three scheduled turboprop flights – such as those flown by regional airline Firefly – in its adjacent bays during peak hours. Turboprop aircraft operations will be shifted from Changi Airport to Seletar Airport once the building is ready, freeing up capacity for jet aircraft operations at Changi Airport.

Seletar Airport General Manager See Seng Wan said the change in the airport's operating model was to make "better use of resources at both airports, which will benefit Singapore's aviation ecosystem in the long run".

To handle the expected increase in passenger traffic, the new facility promises a more streamlined boarding and arrival process featuring four check-in counters, four immigration counters, and two security screening stations. In comparison, the existing facilities only have one of each. The gate holding room in the new terminal will also be able to seat 200 passengers waiting for their flights, compared to the current capacity of 70.

Other improvements include a dedicated space for business aviation passengers with its own private drop-off, check-in and lounge areas, a landscaped garden in the middle of the terminal and tropical design features to provide a warm and relaxed air.

Plans for the existing terminal remain to be decided, according to Seletar Airport.

  6. The PR about the Red Arrows flypast is quite bad.

The Red Arrows were to perform for the Singapore flypast at 1230 hrs, many people were already making their way or already at the Marina Bay area.

The twitter that the Singapore flypast was cancelled only came in at 1030 hrs.

Me personally think for Malaysia side, the sharing of the information is seriously lagging.

I believe that the change in plan for 14-oct fly past can be communicated to the public at much earlier time rather than just 1 hour before the schedule.
