  1. I would do almost anything to get Dragonair to resume flight to Kuching! Just why nobody from Kuching go to Hong Kong is beyond me! No business opportunity? Language barrier? Haiz...

I am sure there is a demand given that there is a daily (?) KCH-BKI-HKG flight. When KA stopped flying to KCH, they reported that they were merely "suspending" the service and KCH still appeared on their route map in their inflight mag for a while but it was eventually taken off. I think KCH has a market for at least one Chinese carrier particularly Xiamen Airlines given the strong affinity between our Sarawak Foochows and their Chinese counterparts. There was talk back in 2002 of a Fuzhou-KCH direct flight but nothing came of it :( Now I am just waiting for Cebu Pacific to make good their intention to start their MNL-KCH flight. Sure will save me time travelling.

  2. No idea :) I suppose in one of the empty seats; plane was never full anyway. But you are right; sometimes there were only 2 FAs.The was one time when one of the FAs either lost track of time time shopping at the terminal or could not find her way back to the gate in time for the departure and was left behind by the angry captain. She showed up at the gate very shortly after the plane (always parked in a remote bay) was taxing away and we had to called ATC to inform the captain. The plane returned to bay and we rushed the poor FA in a van to it and boarded her. I think she was in for disciplinary action upon the plane's arrival in MKZ!

  3. I used to handle 9P's ground operations at Changi T1. Was with SATS then, 9P's GHA at SIN.

Back then (mid 90s) 9P had a daily morning SIN-MKZ-IPH flight using the F50. The pax load was fair - around 60 - 80% considering the not-so-cheap price of the ticket. Yet, people were willing to pay because the other option was the 4-hour road trip on the PLUS highway :) The problem was that 9P had frequent flight cancellations which meant transfer of pax to MH (SIN-KUL-IPH) or SIN-KUL and taxi transfer to Malacca. Very costly for the airline you can imagine! Flight crew consisted of Captain, FO and 3 female FAs dressed in pink, hibiscus-themed kebaya. Even for the short 40-minute hop to MKZ, 9P served chilled juice and sandwiches.

When the airline wrapped up, one F50 sat rotting in storage at Senai airport for quite a while. So sad!

  4. Their 733 looks very nice, too bad I am not able to take her in action.. <_<

Agree, very colouful and "starry" :) although I can't find any of it (B733 or ATR42) in airliners.net or jetphotos.net. One question: if the PNK-KCH vv route is doing well, what with the medical tourism in KCH and all, why is Batavia Air flying only 3x weekly? Is there a restriction? I recall it used to be a daily flight when Y6 operated the route with the F28 a/c. When they upgraded it to the B737-200 and later the B733, I think that's when they started to cut down the services. I assumed it was because these a/c had bigger capacities and the traffic did not merit daily flights. Now I believe they combine the B733 with the A319. With Kalstar proposing daily services using the B733, the load must be good.

  5. Some pix, to keep the thread alive... :)

The A330 looks new and clean. Has the new A330 - 9M-MTA/B been spotted in KCH? Also, is the taxiway (that stretches to the end of RWY 25) finally operational?

Is it true that Kalstar Aviation of Indonesia will be serving JKT-PNK-KCH route starting next week May 9th?

    Anyone know the timetable?

Well, according to Flightstats, there is a "KD Avia" flight KD 811 scheduled to arrive from PNK at 9.45 am on May 9, 2011. Of course, KD actually refers to the defunct Russian airliner (and Kalstar Aviation does not have a two-letter IATA code as yet) but it could be it. Afterall, for a while Transmile Air was listed as "BA Connect" because of its TH coding. Anyone care to check out KCH tomorrow?
