    16 November 2012

A plane carrying returnees from Khartoum has made a forced landing in Aweil, Northern Bahr el Ghazel.

The fixed-wing craft with 57 passengers on board was forced to come down at Aweil airport at about 5 o'clock this evening.

Some passengers sustained slight injuries, details of the incident are still not clear.

Speaking to journalists at Aweil Airport, the Deputy Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Madut Dut Yel, thanked the pilot for saving the lives of the passengers.

The plane belonging to Kenyan company "Sky World" International was contracted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to transport the refugees.

Meanwhile, Jetlink Express has suspended flights to Juba.

The regional airline based in Nairobi, Kenya, has suspended flights with immediate effect with no indication of when operations along the Nairobi-Juba route would resume.

The reasons behind the suspension are not clear although some media reports say it is linked to a shortage of foreign currency, which is needed to buy fuel and manage the aircraft.

Spotted the aircraft on delivery via Dhaka, Bangladesh, February 2012

    RIP 9M-MGI :sorry:

  2. Pontianak and soon Balikpapan as well

And BWN which brings the non-Malaysian cities with direct connection to KCH to a grand total of 4 (SIN/PNK/BWN/BPN) :sorry: HKG is connected via BKI. Hai....to think that in the 80s and early 90s, KCH had direct MH flights to MNL, HKG, NRT, PER and Seoul (at that time still Kimpo airport). SYD was one-way (SYD-KCH-KUL). By the way, BPN is not new either; MH flew the route (using B734) for less than 2 months couple of years back. Not forgetting QZ's short-lived KCH-CGK and KCH-DPS flights. Surely our tourist attractions and amenities are more improved now than before. So why....

  3. Nope, KALStar axed flights to KCH and so far no news on 5J nor Maswing's Balikpapan flight...

Sigh, that's what I feared (about KP). Thanks for the update anyway. With all the malls coming up in KCH, one wonders how they are going to survive if the international flights to KCH remain so dismal. I mean, Kuching people can only support so much before you need to turn to the tourists. And all this talk about the state government in discussion with MH to set up a new private airline is ridiculous when they cannot even get MH to fly routes that KCH could sustain in the past e.g. KCH-PER for one. :nea:

  4. I could out of the loop but any idea what happened to the proposed MasWings' KCH-BPN flight which was suppose to commence in Oct? I am always miffed when airlines make it public that they will fly to some place and then nothing happens :sorry: Same with 5J's announcement of wanting to start a MNL-KCH flight in November last year. I am still flying MNL-BKI or MNL-SIN to get to KCH.

On a separate note, is Kalstar still flying to KCH? How is it that the airline is not listed on Flightstats, even when I check the Indonesian airports where the airline is operating from?

  5. MAS New Baby (MNB) Malaysia 5439 arrived around 3.20pm local time. Thanks to Suhaimi for the info.

    It's all about priorities.

    Still floating...

Welcome to your new home. You have to start work tomorrow.

Maybe it is just me but what's with the monochrome wau? Can't make out if it's black or dark blue. And why does it have to touch the edge of the tail making it look disproportionate to the rest of the tail? Again, just my issue with it. :nea: The rest of the a/c looks great. Welcome home MNB! By the way, is MH planning to give names to these new queens? The late B744s used to be named after Malaysian cities.

  6. Read somewhere online, PAL (with a new owner and management team) is keen on resuming flights to KLIA in the near future, though not sure this year or next year. I think SEAir will also add Kuala Lumpur next year when they receive new aircraft.

I have my doubts about PR starting the MNL-KUL service. They did not operate the route even when there were still no budget carriers around, leaving MH the sole operator for many years although for a while, PR did code-share with MH but that did not last long either. If PR enters the market now, it will have to lower its prices substantially. As it is, PR is losing out in the domestic Philippine market to 5J and the rest because of its higher fares. That is one reason why PR started 2P- Airphil Express (formerly Air Philippines) to compete in this sector. Now that 2P is operating the MNL-KUL route, I doubt PR is going to compete with its subsidiary. Their priority at the moment is getting back the FAA approval to fly to Europe - word has it that FCO and CDG will be their first destinations when this happens. I think they would like to include LHR except that getting a landing slot there at a decent time is next to impossible.
