  1. MH will operate x2 A380 flights to MEL:

    13JUL MH8707/8708 KUL-MEL-KUL

    24JUL MH8707/8712 KUL-MEL-CAN

I'm not sure if this information is correct, but a fellow MEL forumer has highlighted the odd schedule, so I'm placing it here if anyone has more information please inform us! Would definitely like to see them in MEL at least once! :)

    Special chartered flights?

  2.

Müller Predicts Fast Consolidation In Asia

Malaysia Airlines CEO Christoph Müller believes industry consolidation will happen much quicker in Asia than it has in Europe and the U.S.

Müller told Aviation Week at the International Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting (IATA AGM) in Miami that he expects major progress in that regard within the next five years, as countries continue to liberalize their air service agreements and allow their national carriers to combine forces.

"Müller sees MAS becoming a “value carrier” that will offer a basic product and optional high-end services" ... "“We want to go modular so that people can build their own product,” Müller says. “Customers might book a business-class seat, but opt out of the miles or lounge access."

So for a biz class seat, there will be basic fare + meals + luggage + miles + lounge + counter check in + priority boarding + priority luggage + seat selection + amenities bag + ... ?

  3. I was laughing when he mentioned transit fo Indonesia and Thailand. Phuket and Bali are already well connected, as is Jakarta and Bangkok. So where is the transit pax coming from and where are they going?

Maybe transit to Medan, and Koh Samui (via Firefly) :p

  4. Don't forget Singapore Airlines too...

However, I do think that when they launch the newco on 1 September, they should have a new livery for ALL their aircraft. Having three liveries show that its branding and marketing strategy is somewhat confused...

If we take how the "wau" is painted on the tail, the colour of the all blue coloured wau on the A380, and the colour of the wordings "Malaysia Airlines" (some red and blue, some all bule), it does seem like MH is having an identity crisis.

  5. I just flew KUL-MEL 2 days ago, taking the 1145pm flight on 777. It was full and not a single empty seat in Y class (maybe due to student's movement and after CNY load). To be fair, cost cutting measures were in place (expecially in the second meal served - just a cold sandwich, etc). But overall, I still think it is a decent product on a 777, despite it's age. Of course the IFE screen is dated, but I think I rather have 9-abreast seating and 34inch pitch in MH's 777 than EK's 10 abreast! I must say MH's 777 still offer the best in terms of seat comfort. I think the crew on this flight were rather great - friendly, warm, and helpful. I got all the extra packs of peanuts :)

If only MH could bring back the menu (if not printed, at least make it availble through the IFE), towels, more drink rounds, and pre-dinner/main meal drinks - that would put them back on par with others.

I am still not too impressed with EK - I just think it's a lot of hype in their marketing that perhaps creates the "perception" that it offers really "great" service.

  6. That is one hell of a jump!! Leave us with a week to clear all the miles...

there are also rumors of conversion rate of credit card points to enrich mile is going up as well, eg 10k point to 1k miles.

Maybank has confirmed that the conversion rate for treatpoints is now 10,000 points to 1000 enrich miles (jump from 7k points to 1k enrich miles), effective from 1 March.

  7. Essentially zone 1/2 are cheaper by a small amount. Zone 3 onwards are up big time. As an example D to London/Paris is now 63750 after 15% discount. Was 46750. D to Australia is now 46750. Was 34000.

The increases are similar across the board.

    New earn chart

Thanks, Suzanne. I guess Y class makes not much difference. The jump is only for Zone 5, while Zones 1, 2, and 3 see some slight reduction. But with the cheap fares, why bother with Y class redemption for these zones!

Better use up those miles soon for D class!

  8. Just received an email from Enrich regarding the new earning and redemption rates. Not too happy with the new structure :( Redemption rates have increased a lot and earning rates for Economy, some fares increased some decreased, those fares that earns 50% will only earn 25% and those earning 75% will be increased to 85%. Business fare Z is 125% whilst J is 175% and C,D remains the same at 150%.

All these taking into effect 16th Feb 2015

What are the new redemption rates like? I am thinking of redeeming my enrich miles for flights to London. Should I do it before Feb 16 since I have yet to receive any email regarding the new earning/redemption?
