  1. QUOTE(Mushrif A @ Jan 24 2008, 12:20 PM)

Funny you said this but do you serious think IJ & Co will entertain such "delegations" comprising disgruntled customers (where I'm coming from)?

Yup, if brokered via the right channel.

And the contents better be groundbreaking-eyeopening-earthshatteringly sound otherwise the delegation may be peeled off layer by layer.

I'll be most happy if the delegation use me as a test. I'm just a small timer here hence not as sharp as those above me in MH. And If the Delegation can chew me up with ease, you can probably be ready for the next level. After all, my time is cheap, and this can be done over just a Teh Tarik.

If the Delegation is as good as percieved by themselves, it would not take more than 15 minutes to roll me over.

When and Where? I'm ready. Are You?

  2. Like this lah, Izanee, a word of advice. When you are done in Yorkshire or wherever, just come back, join MAS or Azman Mokhtar's outfit, or become a politician. Then try to change MAS the way you want, because it looks like you have ideas on how to run the company. Talk-talk now what for, syok sendiri saja, till you know the cold harsh reality of the world. I think you realised you might have offended Capt Nik in some of your posts and so you did your best to make up to him. So be careful brader, you never know which 'dinosaur' is lurking around here. I could be one of them too. :)

Actually I'm not offended to the degree you think.

Otherwise, I'd leave this forum with a view that it is populated by a small group of opinionated airline management wannabees, throwing criticism and suggestions based on limited knowledge of the full picture. And doing such with the protection of the CRT screen while throwing punches with the keyboard.

MAS is always a favourite subject, and in my 30 years here, from being just an Airline Pilot, to Pilot Union No.2, then moving on to being Chief Pilot Regional Ops , before setting up and heading the Charter outfit, if my P&L is based on Criticism less Accolade, I'd be a billionaire today. :drinks: And that was before the phenomena of Internet Forums. If I take that into account, Bill Gates' wealth would be small change.

Peeling of an argument via an internet forum point by point is a tedious affair, and unrewarding as there can be no clear conclusion.

Its different on a face to face basis, and normally this is the method i really like.

There are times I'm humbled by the knowledge of a few here with regards to the knowledge of the offerings from other airlines that offers competitive and seemingly superior value as compared to what Mh has to offer.

Then there are quality postings that are eroded by emotive statement.

Another noted trait is how any thread that talks about other topics end up being hijacked by a post that criticises MH, frequently by the common repetitive few.

Too much of this is not good as it has the effect lulling the punchline. Its something like the reverse of the 'Stockholm Syndrome'.

I don't know how many remenber the Rodney King beating by the LA police a decade ago. The video was repeated continously on TV. On initial viewing it came as 'shock and awe' to all who viewed it. After an overdose of transmission, most became conditioned to it and the brutality factor diminished, and later the general attitude became 'tidak apa'. Similarly with the video of the first Gulf War attack, showing a continous barrage of weapon launches from Kuwait towards Iraq. 'WOW' became 'HOHUM YAWN YAWN' very quickly. Do think about it.

Everyone thinks their criticism is constructive. Its pretty normal to think so if one is pushing forward an opinion.

  3. QUOTE(Attan @ Jan 2 2006, 08:16 AM)

Bought two books at RM12 each at Popular Ampang Point two weeks ago - "Blue Max" by Jack Hunter and "633 Squadron" by Federick E. Smith. Both were made into movies.

    My best reads were

    "Samurai" by Saburo Sakai

"Fate is the Hunter" by Ernest K. Gann

"Flight of the Intruder" by Stephen Coonts

"Fly the Wing" by James Webb - highly technical but useful

"Baa Baa Black Sheep" by Greg Boyington

    "Lindbergh" by A. Scott Berg

If you want extracts of the best aviation books in just one book I STRONGLY RECOMMEND "War In The Air" by Stephen Coonts (Pocket Books, New York) which includes stories from some of the above listed titles and those as far back as World War 1.

Attan, your suggestions are really great and I get noticed on my notbook. I'll try to find out in Turkish here, otherwise I'll look at bookstores in KL in English.

especially "samurai" takes my interest becouse I read a few article about Saburo Sakai in an Turkish aviation magazine issues. Also they wrote about Erich Hartman's and Adolf Galland's life stories during two years.

I read 633th Squadron and it was great "real life" story. I advise if you have to find "Dunquerk skies"(I couldn't find writer now)

I'm sure all of people know Richard Bach's books. Especially 3 books just only about pure aviation but the rest of them generally about philosophy and human relations

there is an another book published the same series with 633th SQ, which is Heinz Knoke's life story by written himself "la grande chasse" but probably book names can be change.

If you have a chance to buy I advise also "FLIGHT- 100years of aviation" written by R.G Grant. It is very nice documentary book about aviation history since 2003.

For newest GA pilots (so preparing to get their PPLs) ROd MAchado's Private Pilot Handbook would be help for knowledge before flight lessons.

I'm buying new one or used today's pilot, pilot, airlinerworld, airlines, airways, aircraft illustrated special issues from KEymag. Also making collect Jusplanes-world air routes DVDs

I was writing for an aviaiton newspaper-magazine and I had a corner (half page) until 3 years ago about virtual aviation but now I don't write.

    Attan, awesome taste.

Fate is the Hunter is to me an airline pilot's bible, especially if you started when the Airline was small, and you actually knew every Pilot by name. It captures the romance of being a budding airline pilot, the move from equipment to equipment, when ADFs were primary navigating instruments with VOR being hi-tech, when the only CRT a pilot knows is the monochrome display of his weather radar.

Saburo Sakai's Samurai is also good.

Look for Horrido, a good book about the German Aces.

  4. yes, the MAS 777 pilots were never really praised for their excellent handling.

anyways, going back to BA038 - there must have been divine intervention as Capt Nik said that prevented the plane from exploding cos of the leaked fuel.

still hoping that BA will announce a return to KUL. it will be nice to see a BA 744/772 again! in my opinion its a waste to send a terminator flight to SIN without coming to KUL. let's see what our dinosaurs in MAHB can come up with.

It was quite a bit a more than just a stall threat actually, and the Pilots did a good job of regaining control despite getting mixed signals from the primary signals.

In this case I can safely say that the MH PR machine could have done a better job.

  5. Credit must be given to Mwingers for the disciplined way postings in this thread has progressed.

There is almost total absence of speculative nonsense as to the reasons contributing to the crash.

As for me, I'm still waiting to know how much fuel the plane had on board upon touchdown as there is no fire despite the MLG punching through the wings. I'd expect not less than 7.5 tonnes.

There are lots of factual details about the flight, ie engines not responding, great Alpha flow flying by the pilots, weather report, pax accounts but nothing about fuel remaining.

  6. why MANUTD not choose AK? kesian Tony.. spend money to sponsor MANUTD..

    Well Done MH!

p/s: Nik H muka abang hampir sama dengan DSIJ

I don't think its a case of kesian. I'm sure Datuk Tony has his strategies and reasons for investing in the tie up. He is after all an astute businessman. For MasCharter its a good business case and as long as its legal and ethical we'll fly anyone anywhere.

  7. Nice pIctures Nik H :clapping: ..I thought Red Devils only for A Asia!..But..they choose MAS than A Asia .. :clapping: :clapping: :yahoo: ...

The aicraft park at the main terminal rite?or the satellite terminal??

Good question and thanks for asking.

Air Asia Pays Manchester United to have the players pasted on the brand new A320.

Manchester United Pays MasCharters to ride on our not so new ( ahem ) Jumbos.

One of the requirements for these high net worth individuals to fly as a group in an aircraft is a no fatality record over a decade. A few very admired airlines do not meet this criteria.

    The Captain with the girls.

    Mufc8.jpg

    Full story to come soon.

  8. If OLD planes and good services are enough to lure F1 teams to choose MH, saya CABAR MasCharters to get the contract to bring in the F1 teams for SingTel Singapore Grand Prix this September.

No need to cabar in bold. Maybe you don't know much about 5th or 6th freedom rights. Sometimes countries that claim to be open to business to in public are very protective in reality......

I don't just tembak to get Charter flights for cabar mencabar, that's stupid.

At MasCharters we study each Charter from a tangible and intangible angle, then look into the Regulatory and Operational viability scenario, thereafter align our resources before we decide if such a project is beneficial. The ability to do this within 24 hours is what sets us apart from other admired airlines in the region.

For instance, When we had Inter Milan asking us to operate a Europe - Asia Tour, we turned them down as FC Barcelona gave a better business case.

Here's Ronaldinho with a kebaya clad Charter crew.

  9. British Airways Pilot is big hero in UK.

Malaysian Airline Pilot ( my batchmate Capt Norhisham Kassim ) who also saved lives after his B777 Flight Computers went Cuckoo at FL370 and returned to a safe landing in Perth had no such honor. Maybe because its Malaysia Airlines, the favourite whipping boy.

Anyway, whatever the case, I hope I will never get to experience what the pilots went through in my flying career. They have earned a lifetime of salary.

In the case of the BA accident, I'd really have to wait for the full report to emerge.

The immediate puzzling ( but thankful) thing to me is the lack of fire considering that the undercarriage punched right through the fuel tanks. The aircraft should have at least 6 tonnes of fuel on landing.

The pilots did very very well, but there must have been divine intervention as well.

Kinda goes to show that even with old planes, proper planning on the ground and great service in the air is still the key to passenger satisfaction. MasCharters is still the choice despite the cheaper prices and superior planes of the two big Es of Abu Dhabi and Dubai for this Bahrain Charter.

    Cheers

  11. Part One of Two

MasCharters has sealed another Charter deal and for the third year running MasCharters will be flying a number of team members for F1 coming into and out of KUL for the Malaysian round.

Last year MasCharters flew members of 7 teams using a B747 and an A330. That's half the F1 Grid. There were also 6 drivers on board who chose MasCharters over Private Jets or other airlines.

This thread is worthless without pics......so here goes.

  12. An full or partial engine failure on a multi engine performance 'A' aircraft is not an emergency situation unless it is due to uncontrollable fire or propeller related malfunction. It is just a 'urgent' situation that requires a landing at an suitable airfield.

This 'crash landing' thing must be from a 'reliable source' confirmed by 'certain quarters' as reported by an 'unnamed insider' related by a friend of a friend who heard it from his cousin.

    What a crock of s@#t.

  13. That's a very kind offer Capt Nik. I will definitely give you a shout when I come back (may even be sooner than I thought!). I know that posting one's personal opinions on the net has been detrimental to many people so I understand where you are coming from. Many people have been kicked out of their jobs for their indiscretions on facebook!

I apologise if my posts caused any offence to you. I still stand by my opinion that some of the directors and managers should be culled and others take over. These guys will prove to be stumbling blocks to the progress of our national airline that I have always been proud of.

If an airline can turn even its most loyal customers like some of the members of MW so bitter - something is wrong somewhere (and its not the excellent pilots/engineers and cabin crew).

Send my regards to Capt Yusof from the 744 fleet (i think that's his name - he belanja'd me teh tarik in Malaysia Hall two years ago after flying me to London!)

Izanee, I don't take offence easily, so no issue, hence no apology necessary. I look forward to a teh tarik sesssion with you.

That Capt would be Capt Yusof Nasir. He was a Tech and Dev Pilot and later on became VP Flight Opns when I was the Chief Pilot Narrow Body Operations going back 10 years ago. Cool guy, knowlegeable and a great Pilot with 20 years of B747-400 time under his belt.

And yes, there has been a mismatch between Technical Competency and Commercial competency in MH but being the ever optimist, I think the current Management is steering the airline in the correct direction, warts and all.

    Anyway, time will eventually tell.

  14. salams capt nik!

hey...i don't think you are getting any of my posts. It is not saturation bombing. I never ever criticised the pilots, engineers OR cabin crew as they ARE excellent. in fact, i know many people who are pilots and one of my cousin works as a stewardess. She tells me some stories which i can't write here.

    Anyways, I digress.

I didn't criticise you at all, Capt Nik. I think you do a great job!

There are SOME managers or directors who I think don't have a clue about what is going on based on the current situation MH is in.

That is not saturation bombing - it is more akin to a precision Laser guided bomb that caused a little bit of collateral damage which we hoped to cause anyway!

I look forward to hearing what patronising story SOME director or other will come up with.

I realise that even if you work within an organisation that is huge and bureaucratic - it is very difficult to make certain changes. the old dinosaurs get comfortable with what they have and don't want some young upstart showing them what to do. All you can do is keep trying and hope that they get outvoted, kicked out or see your point of view!I think culturally, in Asia especially, respect for elders is important and they play that card well.

However, it doesn't work like that in the Western world - if you're crap, move over. let somebody else do the job.

respect is important but this is a business that needs to be run successfully.

Keep up your good work Capt Nik. I sincerely do not mean any offence towards you and hope you know that.

Kind words indeed. I think if we meet and have a chat, we'll find we may have much in common. In this forum i do not have the freedom to express my opinion about what is wrong as I cannot bite the hand that feeds me so well over the past 29 years. In my area i am lucky that i answer to my departmental bottom line rather than the company bottom line and with regards to the financial contribution to the company's coffers, the Hajj and Charter Dept can stand tall. I am also lucky to have a team of motivated personnel, including the 150+ Charter stewardesses.

Again there are excellent people in many areas of MH. Hence my sensitivities to the word 'ALL' and the generalization of being dumb and inept.

When you find time to visit your homeland, do drop a line and Teh Tarik and Roti Canai will be on me......

  15. maybe the 747s can TRANSFORM into intrakota buses as well.

    now with that...WHO needs alliances?

now..where's capt nik? is he still waiting beside the fax machine?

anyways...i am on call 72 hours then a day off and back on for another 24 hours. i don't have time to hunt for a fax machine!

Busy working la... there is life outside MW you know.

So far nothing in the fax, only one enquiry via e-mail. Guess I'm not holding my breadth on this one.

It may surprise you but there are people in MAS who are sharp and smart. The company does not run on momentum. The Pilots are great, the engineering personnel are competent, the Cabin Crew are still better than most. There are still areas of exellence in this Airline. Its just too bad that the criticism is akin to saturation bombing rather than precision guided missiles, causing collateral damage and hence taking away the essence of sound advice that are contained in some posts here.

You'll probably get a response from MH to your letter that's printed in NST yesterday.

    Kudos to you. :good:

  16. Again if you read my posts, I have not said I agree nor disagree with certain strategies that is adopted with the Airline that puts food on my plate. Be it mealboxes, route structures, product and survey reports. This is a large Corporation. It may surprise you but even the Management are divided in opinion as to the direction of the company. However, at the end of the day, even if one party is in disagreement, one still has to play a role in supporting the strategy that has been mapped out by a group of responsible personnel.

The other honorable alternative is to quit.

Banter on the net actually is significantly different form face to face discussion. The ability to articulate oneself within a given period is quite different as there is no access to the backspace or delete key. One has to arrange his words and be quick on his feet, and be able to be convincing in his views so his/her pitch gets buy-in.

Back to the subject of the application, that is the reason why I decided to present an opportunity for the smart and the brave to walk the talk.

BTW, still nothing in the FAX. :D

  17. Good analogy. Very nice. But I guess only good when protected by an LCD screen with salvos fired by a keyboard.

Can be very different if its on a face to face basis.

Friends, i think you did not read my posts properly.

And also the posts of some of the so called villagers where its not just about 'constructive' criticism but direct accusations about honesty and integrity of ALL involved in running MH.

Don't worry about me being offended. While in MH I've been through hell and back a few times. I have survived 6 Management Regimes. Numerous Management Initiatives. Countless Turnaround Programs. Keep the brickbats coming.

I'll have to wait until 31st before a better picture emerges.

I'm leaving home for the office soon. First stop....FAX Machine.

ps. I'll still be in Hajj and Charters (HCD). It's too much fun to let go. But i can do with some help or leadership.

  18. Uh, you think that is absolutely necessary in view of drive towards LCC costing ? :)
Absolutely Necessary. This is to ensure the print quality of the application from the Aviation Intellects are are of 5star quality. :D
Uh, you think that is absolutely necessary in view of drive towards LCC costing ? :)
Absolutely Necessary. This is to ensure the 5 star quality when printing the received application from the Aviation Intellects. :D

  19. How long is the contract period? Can the person bring in his team from outside or ex-MAS? Can he reorganize his staffs? Can he reward his staffs with divisional bonus? Does he has total control of his budget and cost? Can he outsource if MH aircraft or other resources is not available or competitive priced?

    :drinks:

All will be answered in due time.

Just fax your resume to +60378472939. Quite simply, if the person can generate sufficient returns to be self sustaining, and present a commercial case that's viable in the long term, anything can be done.

    But first APPLY la....

On Monday I'll tell my secretary to ensure the toner in the Fax machine is brand new in anticipation of the deluge.....
