  1. Went to TGG today on MH 1326 for another meeting with the relevant authorities to check out on the airport readiness for the first B744 flight.

KLIA take-off was 14R before a left turn to TGG.

A little hazy today. Sorry, pix from an Ixus.

Semenyih dam. Filled to the brim. The windy roads around the dam are among my favorite for spirited driving or riding. Hardly any traffic, fairly smooth and grippy tarmac.

Very pleasant surprise indeed to see our very own Capt Radzi flying up front. He was training a newbie, with a safety co-pilot riding shotgun.

Phew. TGG AES is now CAT 9 with the arrival of the additional Fire Tenders.

Looks like we are all set to fly in the B747-400 on Saturday. Here's hoping for good weather and great visibility so the flypast will be carried out as planned.

I know a number of MWingers will be on board. And Norman will be there one day early, ready to shoot from the Control Tower.

Can't wait for the pix. :drinks:

  2. Agree with option 3 as well,

quite a tight turn for 747 to the left for 2nd flypast

Would be nice to see a video shot for that day..

Looks tight but with Flaps 10 and just over 180kts its ideal. Flightpath was flown in the sim the other day by the same pilot who will be flying the plane.

Hope for good weather on the day.

  3. Hai Good Morning Uncle Norman... :)

Are you considering this as good offer to you today?? 175.00MYR one way journey with super jumbo B747..

it sound nice to me to grab this experience and opportunity..I looking forward Boarding with B747 for first time in my life, for shortest route pun jadilah..

    To Capt Nik,

Are you will be part of passenger during this inaugural flight to TGG??

    --------

I still check my wallet for this event..

    1. MH1336 --> KUL-TGG --> MYR175.00

    2. FY3317 --> TGG-SZB --> MYR69.95

    -------------------Grand Total MYR244.95

But the event --> Priceless..Money cant buy

No. I will be in TGG a day earlier to oversee the event and also sign the contract with TGG State Government. But I will probably come back with the flight to KUL.

  4. Yes it is bookable. MH 1336 as seen on website today. Cheapest flight at the moment is RM 79 + all the other bits.

Departure 1325 Arrival 1415; probably a little later due to the fly past over Tgg City.

Return flight will be at 1615 for arrival at 1710.

Two Certificates of flights will be given to Passengers; One for the first Jumbo arrival into TGG and the other for the first Jumbo flight out of TGG.

200 kids from various orphanages will be ferried to the aircraft during the two hour transit and they will be given Tshirts and ahem snekboxes. I am sure it will be a treat for them.

  5. Just arrived from TGG after a half day meeting with the State Govt and a full inspevtion of the facilities.

The runway is READY. In fact, the B737 I came back on used the newly completed extension for the RWY22 take off. The airport will be upgraded to CAT9 by 6th Oct instead of 15th September due to the delay in the delivery of an additional Fire Tender. You would not think so if you go throgh this thread and see the pictures.

But in this case, a good continous push can even 'move a mountain'. Although it may not win you many friends..........

This is a good case of 'Malaysia Boleh' :clapping:

The B747 will depart KUL at 1330 on the 11th of October. It will do a low pass over the airport runway, then proceed to orbit K. Trengganu town before flying parallel to Batu Burok beach. Depending on the wind and Runway in use, it may be doing a Northerly or southerly flight when flying abeam batu Burok beach. Of Course, weather will also determine the flypass.

A water cannon salute will be made.

    Norman....its time to talk....

  6. Yes I also have intention to dig this topic and ask Capt. Nik for any latest news..I pray and hope all according to schedule and TGG will start operate WB plane for this coming Hajj season..

BC, Ashmil, Must be some sort of Karma......

I have the Hajj & Charters Team members at TGG yesterday inspecting the facilities.

And later this evening I will be Fireflying to TGG for another round of meeting with the relevant Authorities on Thursday. Scheduled a couple of other meetings with two hotels for crew, rest houses facilities for ground staff, look at the vans to be rented etc etc.....every little detail before signing off the relevant service provision contracts....

I will also be finalising the FIRST B747-400 flight into TGG. The flight will depart KUL as a scheduled flight replacing the B737 at 1100 on the 11th of October. Also arranging a low level TGG city flypast before turning parallel to Batu Burok beach for a landing RWY 22. Aerobridge alignment will also be done on the day.

Hoping for Bomba to give the aircraft a water cannon salute on taxy to the main apron.

    I'll keep MWingers informed.

Any Mwingers interested to be on this Mini-Historic flight.....?

Slightly off-topic, whilst the new TGG terminal may look quite interesting from the outside, in practice, the terminal is dark and gloomy in the inside, especially the public area at the departure level. Inefficient and awkward overall layout. Very little use of natural sunlight. Not very good of the architects to not envisage these, I must say.

OFF TOPIC- Good observation Mushrif; the airport, though grand could have had a better design to utilise natural sunlight. The workmanship too leaves a lot to be desired.

    ON TOPIC again;

But for the Hajj, we will not be using the terminal at all. The Charter team has decided for the Check-in, Immigration, Customs and security formalities to be done at the nearby indoor stadium and the pilgrims will be bussed directly to the aircraft. This will minimise congestion at the airport.

  7. Looks like a record that I need to break..... My normal level is 3000 ft LBU-BKI and 4000 ft BKI-LBU. Level off and enjoy the view.

Don't waste time climbing to 3000ft. You'll lose 1500ft on climb and anothet 1500 on descent. Try the 1500ft cruise. Fly the pole. Aim for extended Rwy 02 at 4 dme. Make sure its VMC all the way. You'll know by 500ft as you can see the Pulau Tiga/Kuala Penyu area and also Mt Kinabalu.

Forget doing it on the BKI LBU sector. Time wasted with a 02 departure out of BKI and a RWY 32 or is it RWY34 landing at LBU.

BTW BC, not much wind at 1500ft altitude.

  8. Used to be my favourite sector during my 737 days 15 years ago. Real fun. Used to fly at 1500ft altitude only on visual days.

Airborne, gear up, bug up 320 knots, right turn, call for flaps '0', level off at 1500ft, call for climb checklist and shoot for the barber pole.

After Pulau Tiga ( Survivor Island) call for approach checks followed by part of landing checks. 10DME VJN cut power to idle, at 270knots Gear Down, wait fo 250 knots for flaps all the way down to 15 and intercept Glide Slope Rwy 02 by 3 DME on the ILS.

Personal best was a 13 minute take-off to touch down flight time to cover the 62 nautical mile distance. Breathless, exhilarating, exciting and fulfilling. The F/Os, especially the new ones go wide eyed and normally gets left behind....... Fuel was about USD24 per barrel then....who says there is no fun in airline flying....... :drinks:

  9. Nik, nice pics of Piper Tomahawks PA-28-112, those days they're the best...

Doc, I somehow do not see any lacking of maturity when i fly with the youngsters that has an adverse effect on their flying skills. On a personal level there may be but I feel equally at home flying with a young boy or an older person with the same flight experience.

As we are drifting away from the topic title, this line of discussion came about when someone posted about 21 / 20 year old boys flying in the trainer plane without instructors.

  10. On that particular afternoon, the weather there was not quite favorable for training as I was told. All trainees of Asia Pac Kota Bharu who were flying at training areas was instructed to return back to base. On the other hand, the HMA Diamonds also suffered quite a number of maintenance history recently. Probably the old faithfuls like Cessna and Piper should be revisited by flying schools.

Don't know about factors leading to the accident.

But I tend to agree with Capt Norhisham's comment about the old faithfuls from the mainstream manufacturers like Cessna, Piper and Beechcraft. The singles from these companies are extremely vice free and very good for basic training. In our training days, we thrashed the daylights out of the aircraft and we all mostly emerged unscathed.

  11. I was in TGG and came back on FY F50 just now ( 2300 25th Aug 2008 ). i was there for a meeting on the Hajj flights from TGG.

Took some time of to go to TGG GH Ward 7A Room 5 and visited Farid there. There was also a Lady cadet Pilot there. ( Farid's batchmate; can't remember her name )

He is in good spirits, fully concious and in some pain. I told him pain is Good as it means all his nerves and senses are in order. He sustained two broken ankles, both of which are in traction. There is a single rib fracture and he had some minor lacerations on his upper body, arms and face. His left cheekbone was chipped, and there was some injury to his left eye. He is worried about his flight training but I just told him to concentrate on his recovery as that is the most important for now. I also mentioned to him that most MWingers are concerned about his recovery and most are praying for his speedy return to normal health.

He will be transferred to KL for further treatment in the next couple of days. i hope his road to full recovery will be a swift and trouble free one as like him, I too would like to see him in the right seat of a B737 wearing MH uniform soon.

  12. Stretching one's imagination a bit, perhaps they plan to do different departure times on every different day of operation ?! :D

I don't suppose the A333's will have the legs to do KUL-London vv non stop ? Which means they will still need to source for additional long hauls (presumably A340's now) for the additional frequencies

    True BC.

But being the simpleton i am, there's only 168 hours in a week, and the Airbus will average 13hrs per leg at least ( its significantly slower than the B744 ) meaning it will spend 130 hours airborne leaving only 38 hours ( spread over 10 sectors ) for transits, stayover checks and other mandatory maintenance chores....and that's provided the slots into and out of London are favorable for aircraft sling patterns...... And if the aircraft returns after a 17 hour cycle, the same crew surely cannot be expected to do the alternate return leg after a 17 hour break...... This means another set of crew to operate ( probably 4 pilots and 14 CC ) and more HOTAC costs in LON due overlap......

If its the A330s, even stretching the imagination is not going to help it do London non-stop. It can't even do the 8.8 hours Jeddah with a full load. Even the longer range short version can't do London without significant payload penalties.

Don't really know how the A340 will perform though.....

  13. After several false starts...

Don't know if this is net fare or introductory promo fare or both or what?

To London and back - for RM1,200

    By WONG SAI WAN

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia X will start its flights to London in March next year.

(snip) Fernandes said AirAsia X would start with five flights a week using the first aircraft but “we will build it up to eventually two flights on a daily basis.” (snip)

Brilliant stuff by Air Asia X on this London thing.

But the press must have misquoted him about One aircraft doing 5 KUL-LON vv flights within 7 days...... WoW!

  14. Al-Fatihah and deep condolence to Allahyahram Mohd Ariff Ahmad Fuad also family..

I still in doubt, according to Utusan news quote by Sofian, the reports mention that Allahyahram as Juruterbang Pelatih as young as 20 can fly the aircraft without instructor beside??

Sorry if i ask this question on the right time.. :sorry:

Like most of my fellow pilots, we all flew solo ( without instructor) at 18-19 years old. By 20 most were with at least CPL I/R. I don't think age has anything to do with the crash.

  15. Be wary, bro, these blokes might be chipping at your business soon. :)

Always wary. ( Kawe tok ghajing lela' mato nga tuto' tlinga ha go 'nih wei......)

There are lots of smarter people around with better business acumen, better financial backing, better networking, better knowledge of Hajj and Umrah business, better grasp of local and international regulations, much more experience, greater track record, immense widebody operational experience, superior PR etc etc.

My ears and eyes are wide open so I can pick up a thing or two from them so my team can consolidate our business. Apparently they made a bid for the Malaysian Hajj as well.

I am especially interested on how the Afghan Hajj deal will be operationalised. I heard failure to deliver can attract very serious repercussions that goes beyond money and can affect life and limb. The Hajj is a very serious business as it touches one of the 5 pillars of Islam.

As I said earlier, they must really know what they are doing.

  16. I hope this event becomes a reality. Remember the much talked about aerospace exhibition that didn't take-off.

I agree that LIMA has a more defence slant and it's about time commercial aviation is given more priority.

I'd rather the Govt put a little money on Sports and Business Aviation than try to fight it out against DXB Airshow and Asian Aerospace. A mini Oshkosh of the East would be great. But that's me

  17. A thought here - does Captain Nik and his MAS Charter outfit provide consultancy work with regards to Haj flights to other carriers ?

Or better still, offer such charter services to other nations (bilateral air agreements permitting) ?

After all these years, the wealth of experience must be second to none. And it would be a skill that can only be practised upon during two short periods each year

I'm sure they MUST know what they are doing I'm sure. :good: This is a high stakes game.

    Best of luck.

  18. Capt. Nik H,

    Can I become one?

My enthusiasm towards MH can be exhibited by my threads/posts/replies in this forum and also the Malaysian Aviation Threads in www.airliners.net (now in version 7) that I administer. http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/g...d.main/3814984/

As at today (17 August 2008), I have been flying MH on 107 sectors, mostly on regional routes, which represents 62% of my overall air travelling. The beakdown of classes flown are 15 sectors on Golden Club Class and 92 sectors on Economy Class. In average, I fly with MH at least 1 sector a month. Here is my FlightMemory page for your reference. http://my.flightmemory.com/9MMAR

I am also a Silver Enrich member who signed in with the Golden Lounge Program. I collect MH's memorabilia and aircraft's die cast models.

I am a single, 28 years old Malay accountant who is based abroad. I understand that I may not fall within the criteria/demography of subject that you are looking for and I am extremely aware of the fact that there are many other travellers who flown on many more sectors and to much more farther places than mine with MH. But I believe, I have put a strong case on my enthusiasm towards MH, especially in MalaysianWings. I am confident that I can give great inputs for the program.

    MW Names I will propose;

    1. Mohd Azizul Ramli

    2.

    3.

    4.

    5.

    Please send me ( huzlan@malaysiaairlines.com & nikhuzlan@yahoo.com ) your details as follows;

    Name:

    IC No:

    MH Flight Experience:

    Other Airlines Flight Experience:

    Previous Complaints to MH:

    Past Career Position/s:

    Current Position:

List of 5 Main Issues / Queries / Suggestions :

I cannot promise results but I can promise I will strongly propose your participation in subsequent meetings.

  19. Not sure how MH select these advocates, likely only those with ‘constructive’ suggestion.

If MH is serious, MH should invite KUL based SQ Solitaire and PPS holders for cocktails.

    :drinks:

I'll try arrange 5 slots for MW members if anyone is keen. I don't know what criteria my fellow colleagues chose the 22 but who knows, they may listen to this suggestion from a small timer like me......

  20. Capt Nik, i want to know,

if i not mistake, MH will use B747-400 to cater pilgrims,

can pilgrims sitting at first class or business class?

or no first class or business class in Hajj Flights?

    Seat allocation in the following order;

FC: Those who paid a premium through private packages.

BC: Those who paid for a less than premium package, also via private arrangements.

EY: Standard packeges via the Mu'asasah.

However, some Premium seats are reserved for pilgrims who are less ambulatory and MH will exercise discretion on their placement.

Seats near emergency exits are reserved for those who can be able bodied in to facilitate quicker flow of evacuation in case of unlikely emergency.

All inflight meals are similar throughout the flights, so no 'fine dining' for those seated in the Premium seats. The menu is planned relevant to the passenger profile so 'exotic' Western meals don't go to waste. The type of food reflects 'Malaysian Flavour', which over the past years' experience seems better appreciated by the Pilgrims.

After carrying not less than 120,000 pilgrims since Hajj and Charter Dept took over since 2003, we have only recieved less than 20 complaints on in flight catering.

There were no complaints with regards to aircraft quality and 6 complaints related to inflight service ( all from VIPs).

Also since 2003 we had less than 10 flight that were delayed for more than 3 hours, with one delayed for 28 hours in 2005.

I have a good Hajj Team and am very proud of them. :yahoo:

We all hope to do better this year.

A little prayer from MW members for a successful Hajj operations will go a long way in getting some Divine support. TQ
