  1. CDG may be a possibility as their loads there are quite good. I don't know about FRA. They couldn't fill up a daily 772 so unless they step up their marketing and win over more pax - FRA will not get the A380.

Yes, an insider informed me that only 2 MH's European destinations made profits; AMS and CDG. According to the same person, LHR is "barely break even". FRA is rumoured to be axed earlier, BEFORE MH announced that they won't be joining any alliance for the next 5 years (if MH joins Skyteam, FRA is definitely going to get the axe). Unless they can sell their products well or the business between Malaysia and Germany improved, we can see MH leaving FRA in the future.

You're right - MEL probably will be difficult as they have downgraded it. Even SYD has been downgraded as 4 flights continue on to BNE.

Izanee, all 7 flights (MH 140/141) are KUL-SYD-BNE-KUL. Only the 7 weekly MH 122/123 are KUL-SYD-KUL. SYD was downgraded (frequency wise) from '14 weekly non stop on B744 and B772ER' to '7 weekly non stop and 7 via BNE on B744'. BNE on the other hand was upgraded (frequency wise) from 5 weekly non stop on B772ER to 7 weekly via SYD on B744.

Answering the thread, yes, as I posted in many of my earlier replies, the A380s will be sent to LHR, SYD and AMS.

If MH proceed with 8 A380s (as rumoured), perhaps CDG will be getting the A380 as well, considering the profitability of the route and the difficulties in obtaining additional landing rights from the French government.

  2. If this is going to be the permanent LCCT, I would imagine how costly it can be considering the size. It is bigger than the MTB itself AFTER getting its second satellite. The design reminds me of PEK's Terminal 3, with an island terminal and 2 entry/exit main terminals at both end, connected by subway.

This is perhaps just another 'imaginary' dream of MAHB. Too ambitious yet too unrealistic.

Why can't they just do something about the original design and build the LCCT at the proposed 2nd satellite site?

  3. I agreed with Azri. In addition, Jetstar (International) also operate into KUL Main Terminal Building for their SYD-KUL-SYD run. They may opt for MTB to ease connection for their passengers. I still remember their CEO, Alan Joyce told the media that the difference between airport charges in KUL MTB and KUL LCCT wasn't significant.

I also believe, should Jetstar Asia operates in MTB while Tiger chooses LCCT, Jetstar will have an added advantage. I think most passengers prefer the 28 minutes KLIA Express train than the 90 minutes Skybus.

  4. My 4th rumour thread! :)

Rumours are spreading that MH (through PMB) will proceed with the purchase of 6 A380s. On top of that, MH is also being offered 2 additional A380s with hefty discounts as a compensation package for the delay of the A380s. MH is expected to accept the deal. Sources from LIMA stated that an announcement is expected within '30-60 days'. MH will be operating 8 A380s.

  5. Yes, I can confirm on the A333 because my friend who is working with Schenkel Brisbane has been forwarding several pallets to KUL from the MH B744s' belly to AirAsia X's belly due to overcapacity.

The only problem for most forwarders in Brisbane (most of them having offices located within proximity of BNE) is to transport the cargo to Gold Coast.

  6. Good day all,

I posted a thread in A.Net on the same topic on 26 December 2006. The year 2007 is about to come to an end and it would be interesting to know how your 'aviation' resolutions (if any) have turn out to be. 24 days to go so there is still time to make up for some.

For me as a commercial passenger, I set the following to be fulfilled in 2007 and their outcome (as at 7 December 2007) are as follows:

    • Not to fly in Economy Class domestically (both in Malaysia and Indonesia) unless there is no other choice of carrier (being in Indonesia, only GA provides Business class product and GA doesn't served the city I am currently staying at).

      Outcome: Not achieved.

I flew domestically in Malaysia on 10 sectors where 7 of it in Business Class, while the other 3 in Economy Class. The resolution was not applicable in Indonesia as GA spoilt everything by terminating PNK earlier but resumed operation last month, causing this resolution to be in chaos. I flew domestically in Indonesia on 13 sectors, all of which in Economy Class (with LCCs Batavia and Sriwijaya).

    • To fly only in Business Class internationally (regionally).

      Outcome: Not Achieved.

I flew on 8 sectors with MH regionally (within South East Asia) and only spent 3 of it in Business Class. The remaining 5 sectors were in Economy Class. I also flew on 10 sectors with Batavia Air regionally, all of which in Economy class as Batavia is a LCC.

    • To pursue flying in F for the first time.

      Outcome: Not Achieved.

I simply don't have the opportunity to do so. But who knows, within this 24 days...

    • To perform at least one return long haul journey.

      Outcome: ACHIEVED!

I managed to fly on 2 return long haul journey in 2007. KUL-AMS-KUL with MH and KUL-OOL-KUL with AirAsia X.

    • To qualify as a MH's Silver Enrich member.

      Outcome: ACHIEVED!

Finally, after all the hard work and sweat.

    • To involve in a special aviation related event such as an inaugural flight.

      Outcome: ACHIEVED!

I flew on AirAsia X's inaugural flight to OOL on 2 November 2007.

    • To fly at least one sector a month.

      Outcome: Not achieved.

Thanks to my boss, I missed out on flying in the month of June 2007. I am still mad at him because of this.

Breakdown of my flying log according to months:

        January - 4 sectors

        February - 4 sectors

        March - 2 sectors

        April - 2 sectors

        May - 3 sectors

        June - NO FLYING!!!

        July - 4 sectors

        August - 7 sectors

        September - 2 sectors

        October - 8 sectors

        November - 10 sectors

December - None yet but 9 sectors planned

  7. To collect all 12 issues of MH's inflight magazine, Going Places.

    Outcome: Not achieved.

Since I didn't flew in June 2007, I missed out on getting myself that month's copy of Going Places. I did managed to secure one from MH's Golden Lounge in but I didn't get it from flying, so I don't count it as valid. I blame my boss for this failure.

  8. To break my record of flying (as a commercial passenger) on 42 sectors (in 2006) and 26,079 miles (also in 2006).

    Outcome: ACHIEVED!

So far I flew on 46 sectors covering 40,585 miles in 2007.

  9. To get the MH's Enrich CIMB credit card.

    Outcome: ACHIEVED!

I got mine in March 2007. It is just a Gold card. I will work hard to be upgraded to Platinum soon.

  10. To only stick to MH for flying internationally and within Malaysia, GA for flying within Indonesia and Batavia for the routes which weren't served by GA within Indonesia.

    Outcome: Not achieved.

I flew on 23 international sectors; 10 MH, 9 Batavia, 2 AirAsiaX and 2 KLM.

I flew on 10 sectors within Malaysia, all 10 were with MH.

I flew on 13 sectors within Indonesia; 11 Batavia and 2 Sriwijaya.

Again, this resolution was made spoilt by GA re-entry into PNK.

  11. To travel (leisurely) within Indonesia once a month.

    Outcome: Not achieved.

I flew on 13 sectors within Indonesia, I missed out on flying in June 2007 and not all of the 13 flights were for leisure.

  12. So that's mine. Looks like only 5 out of 12 resolutions are achieved, with a successful rate of 42%. Never mind, I shall make it up in 2008.

    How about yours? :)

p/s I still have a few flights to perform before the end of the year. So some of the figures above will be changing.

    - 8 Dec PNK-CGK Sriwijaya

    - 9 Dec CGK-JOG-PNK Batavia

    - 20 Dec PNK-KCH Batavia

    - 20 Dec KCH-KUL-BKK MH

    - 23 Dec BKK-KUL MH

    - 26 Dec KUL-CGK EK

    - 26 Dec CGK-PNK Batavia

  13. There is always good service to go around on board MAS no matter what class you travel in.

I agree with Michael there. Service on MH has been wonderful even though you are flying at the back of the aircraft. I have been flying only on 4 legacy airlines; MH on 94 sectors; LH, KL and GA on 2 sectors each, so I guess that alone should testify why I am a die hard fan of MH.

Allthough being late, i was warmly welcomed by the crew, and pampered with several hot towels as they saw that I was seriously exhausted. I was also given several glasses of water, and calmed down by a very nice crewmember "relax, sometimes even our captain arrives too late."

My colleagues and I were very late on our LH flight from HAM-LHR in 2004. Once we got onboard, the crew closed the door immediately while her colleague came up to the PA and announced that boarding was 'finally' completed. We have yet to reach our seats on the B733 at that moment but unfortunately received 'death stares' from another 2 crew along the aisle. The flight ended up returning to HAM after flying for about 20 minutes due to some technical problem. Padan muka Lufthansa!

I have quite the same story as Georg as well. I left my passport by mistake at MH's ticketing office in KUL somewhere in 2005. I was flying KUL-KCH-PNK with MH on Economy Class on that day and only realised that my passport was missing upon descending into KCH. Without the passport, I cannot enter PNK in Indonesia. I desperately need to return to my work base at that time.

Once touched the ground, I received a text from my sister telling me that MH gave a call to my home telling that they found my passport. The next couple of minutes was spent on phone calls to a very friendly MH staff who assured me that the passport will be delivered to me in KCH on the same day, without me have to return to KUL to pick it up. Asking on where did he got my home number, he replied, "We got it from your Enrich membership particular, Sir". My Enrich card is always clipped together with my passport, ...aha!

The MH staff in KCH have been very helpful (in changing my ticket to PNK to the next available flight, to offload my luggages which have been checked in direct to PNK and to lend me their telephones and office spaces so that I could communicate with the MH staff in KUL).

And he delivered his word. I received my passport that night by hand.

After that incident, I affirmed myself that I won't fly any other carrier other than MH (unless MH doesn't fly to the destination) by all mean whatsoever!

  14. I used to fly a lot on MH 2564 KUL-KCH, the 5 am flight, when they operated them before the domestic air rationalisation.

I remember being allowed to check in at 1 am (at check in island D) but was told that the Domestic Golden Lounge at the Main Terminal Building only open at 4 am. The custom/immigration also did not allow me to enter the airside area up until 3 am on several occasions.

In all, I only managed to spend about an hour in the lounge for each journey on MH 2564.

I sense that you'll be flying MH 2638 KUL-BKI, the 4 am flight?

  15. It came up as the front page news today.

    Batavia.jpg

The aircraft was indeed heading to PNK as flight 7P 207 with 138 passengers onboard. The pilot was Captain Wawan Setiawan, whom reported a hydraulic failure to the ATC 10 minutes after taking off at 5,000 - 6,000 feet altitude.

Passengers reported saw smoke and a fluid coming out from the left wing. The debris of the wing was found in pieces by villagers of Dusun Malang, Desa Gempolsari in Tangerang near CGK, after it hit a roof of a house in the village. It was reported that the largest piece is measured around 100 m2.

The initial investigation reported that the cause is probably due to pemasangan pengikat bahagian sayap pesawat yang tidak mengikut prosedur, karena tidak menggunakan baut dan mur (the installation of the mentioned part of the wing, which was not conducted according to the procedure, as it was evidenced that the installation was carried out without the usage of items called baut and mur [perhaps some kind of screws?]).

  16. I just paid a visit to the Enrich Customer Service Center on 20 Nov. I have a few findings to share:

    • MH is no longer printing out the hard copy of the Enrich newsletter, World of Riches, as a cost cutting measure. Earlier, even for those who opted for an e-newsletter, they can always come and get a hardcopy of the newsletter at the Enrich Customer Service Center.
    • Enrich members can get their 'missing' miles from other MH's partner airlines (KLM, Air France, ANA, SWISS, Virgin Atlantic, Northwest and Virgin Blue) on the spot. Just produce the original boarding passes and tickets or e-tickets, it can be done in an instant. All boarding passes and tickets will be returned back to members. BRAVO Enrich!
    • On the other hand, those who want to redeem their 'missing' miles from MH flights for other FFPs will have to wait for at least a week before the miles can be credited into their FFP accounts. In my case, I went to the KLM's Flying Blue Customer Service Center in Jakarta and the best that they can do was to get a copy of the boarding passes and tickets and forward it to the same office in Australia for verification. So BOOO... to Flying Blue!
    • The Temptation Gallery on the 2nd floor of MAS Building in Jalan Sultan Ismail was closed (due to cost cutting measure - saving on office spaces' rental) and is now sharing the same office with the Enrich Customer Service Center. A cabinet is dedicated for all the Temptation's items.
    • The Golden Holiday offices on the 2nd floor of MAS Building in Jalan Sultan Ismail was closed (due to cost cutting measure - saving on office spaces' rental) and is now sharing the same office with the MH Ticketing office on the ground floor of the same building. 3 counters are dedicated to Golden Holidays. I think it is counter 14-16.
The experience proved that there is something good about Enrich after all. And about the cost cutting measures, well at least MH is now back into profitability, so yes, that's fine for me.

  17. Oh my, I have been onboard PK-YTP 3 times since I started recording the aircraft registration number. It is a Boeing 737-400 and all 3 journeys were on the PNK-CGK-PNK routes. But alas, this news is not something big as it happened quite frequent to Batavia. The last of such incident was when a landing gear collapsed in an airport in Kalimantan (Banjarmasin or Balikpapan) early this year, similar with the recent Mandala mishap. Hey, this is Indonesia and please, fly Batavia Air - Trust Us to Fly!

    Some photos of PK-YTP:

  18. There is a solution to this problem. In Indonesia, where there are around 20 LCCs competing each other, prices are very low and most carriers will offer something extra (although tiny) to win passengers.

Take Batavia Air (7P) for example, they give free 25 kg of baggage allowance and free snackbox to each passengers onboard their flights. This is to ensure passengers choose them over the likes of Sriwijaya Air, Adam Air, Mandala Airlines and Lion Air.

So, let's urge, no, let's force our government to liberalise our air travel market and allow more LCC (or perhaps another legacy carrier) to compete. Malaysia is a land full of monopolies!

  19. At least there's a place where the pax can relax outside the cramped terminal. Is there only 1 of those things???

Yes, only one deck (gazebo). But if you look at the album, there are many places that passengers can sit outside the terminal. The garden next to the bus terminal, the bus terminal itself, the alfresco cafes etc.

  20. Im confuse with what IJ had just said...he previously quoted that MH doesnt need a jumbo jet like B747-400s and now he ended up saying that MH may need the A380s for congested airport like LHR.

Government's order. As I always predicted. Well looks like they are going to have it anyway. As a passenger, I would be very happy to fly it. But I am not sure how it is going to be financed (tax payers' money? - PMB) or whether it will contribute significant economic benefits to MH's operation or not.

  21. I think MAHB should send a few officers onboard AirAsia X to Gold Coast and have a look at Coolangatta Airport. The airport is this year's CAPA LCC Airport of the Year (incidentally with AirAsia's winning).

Many things can be learnt from the airport in terms of design and facilities.

Should MAHB wants to take some ques from OOL, CAPA's LCC Airport of the Year 2007.

  22. There were a few hiccups on the website several days ago. The website was uploading so slowly and booking could not be made. Instead, there was a link to the 'old' booking system.

It looks like now it has been running smoothly. Just one thing, they missed out to put an option for a 'One Way' booking at the main interface of the booking system. One Way booking can only be made if one clicks on 'Plan & Book' followed by 'Make a Booking'.

Speaking of a new website, I wonder when will MH unveil theirs (with the very delayed eticketing network wide capability)?
