  1. Selected uniforms and their designers:

Air France - Christian Lacroix (previous designs by Balenciaga and Dior)

    Virgin Atlantic - Vivienne Westwood

    Singapore Airlines - Balmain

Alitalia - (previous design by Georgio Armani)

    Etihad Airways - Ettore Billota

    British Airways - Julien Macdonald

    Emirates - Simon Jersey

    Qantas - Martin Grant

MH current kebaya - an unnamed ITM student (but soon will upgrade to Farah Khan)

Mueller said that the change is initiated by the cabin crew themselves. I guess I can understand that. When you see your neighbour wearing Balmain, and you are stuck with ITM clothes for decades, it hurts the morale and and the pride as an unofficial ambassador of the country.

    Argument on cost:

If the loss making Alitalia can give their crew Georgio Armani uniform...

Actually, a competition is not a bad thing either. But to get the best of it, it should be done on a global scale, not some cheap nationwide competition. Invite big designers to participate but MH set the budget before hand to ensure the outcome is per expectation.

  2. I also think that the Indian tourism board did not do enough to promote Goa. When we see Airasia X launch a new route in Australia, you see so much promotion being done by the Aussies and Tourism Malaysia. Indians love coming to Malaysia, if it was properly promoted. Just look at how many visitors from India go to Genting!

I agree. One thing I noticed is the tourism authorities/agencies in India are very provincial in nature e.g. Visit Tamil Nadu (cant recall if there was any other visit Uttar Pradesh or Rajashtan or Maharashtra etc campaigns).

Not that it is bad because it can succeed if the agency is aggressive enough. I think Australia also promotes their respective regions individually and they are successful. Here in the UK, California promotes themselves heavily in local telly.

  3. When the airline has made press statements that it will relocate all operations to MTB, why there is still a need to refurbish the Satellite lounge?

And that lounge and the domestic one have just being refurbished. How many refurbishment does it requires?

Sounds like a monkey business to me along the line of latest rumour about the real reason the B744 was reactivated. MH is really 1 very f*up airline.

  4. From the spies:

The new CEO for MH is the current CEO of MRT Corp.

    Basis of selection:

    1. He is in the transportation industry (train)

    2. He was with the lessor of MH aircraft PMB for a few years before joining the train line.

    3. Because Khazanah can appoint whoever they fancy.

  5. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) today announced that its chief executive officer and managing director Christoph Mueller will leave the company in September 2016, following his request to depart before the end of his three-year contract.

In ensuring continuity and an orderly succession, Mueller will serve a six-month notice period to September 2016.

Following this, he has expressed his intention to the MAB Board of Directors (BOD) to remain with the airline as Non-Executive Director.

"The Board has acknowledged Mr Mueller’s plan to leave ahead of time, which is due to his changing personal circumstances, and has commenced a search for a new CEO, which will encompass both internal and external potential candidates," said MAB in a statement here today.

  6. Sidenote:

Madinah Airport (the new airport) celebrated their first birthday yesterday. The modernisation of the Madinah Airport has make umrah and hajj journeys more convenient to pilgrims.

For umrah, in the olden days when JED is the only gateway, the most common modus operandi is that pilgrims will land in JED. Then they will hop onto a bus right away for a 5 to 6 hours journey to Madinah. They will spend a few days in Madinah. Then another 5 to 6 hours bus journey to Mecca for the main event. They will left home from JED.

Now that Madinah airport can accommodate big aircraft such as our A380, umrah operators can give more varieties to their packages (one that starts in Madinah, another starts in Mecca) and can get rid of at least one of the long bus journey.

Madinah Airport is estatic about our A380. Always being featured in their tweets.

  7. Thank you for that Kuhan. Finally we have the complete 2015 Top 30 ranking. That wiki page was stuck with data until March 2015 for almost 1 year. This is due to the fact that ACI is no longer publishing the statistics as it used to.

Wth stagnant growth predicted for KUL in next few years, it is an uphill task to maintain the sub Top 23 position (from Top 20 in 2014). A lot of other airports are fast catching up.

Big blow to Heathrow. I think this is their worst ranking ever. That's what you get for delaying the 3rd runway.
