  1. Exercise Bersama Sheild 2011 will kick off this Monday. Possibly a C-17/C-130, and six F/A-18F Super Hornets from RAAF No.1 Squadron will be arriving this weekend. Hope the Kiwis will send their planes too :) 46 aircrafts are expected to be involved in this major military exercise.

any idea when the participants will arrive i.e. its ETA in Butterworth AFB? air space around Butterworth should be very busy this weekend.....

  3. Firefly Revises Passengers Target To 3.5 Million This Year

PETALING JAYA, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- Fly Firefly Sdn Bhd, a unit of Malaysia Airlines revised its passengers target to 3.5 million this year from an earlier target of three million passengers with the launch of its Southern hub in Senai, Johor.

FireFly Managing Director Datuk Eddy Leong said the new hub would operate in May with two fleet of Boeing 737-400 aircraft instead of its 737-800 aircraft.

"It costs us three-and-a-half time less to operate 737-400. Once the hub proves its success, then we will think of bringing in 800 aircraft," he told reporters here Tuesday.

The budget airline is confident the numerous commercial and tourism activities expected to generate in Johor Bahru via the Iskandar Malaysia development would be able to positively contribute to its economic growth.

The new plan follows the community airline's first jet aircraft flights last month, operated with Boeing 737-800s.

Currently Firefly leases the 737-400 aircrafts from the open market on a short-term lease of less than five years, he said adding that to switch to the 737-800 aircrafts, it would likely take two to three years to do so.

"Eventually when the Iskandar region development progresses there will be increase in in-bound arrivals of business and leisure travellers.

"The economic boost will create natural traffic," he explained.

The community airline today announced the second phase of its expansion programmes with the launch of its Southern hub in Johor and Eastern hub in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

This phase will be accompanied with the introduction of new sectors and additional frequencies on the Sabah and Sarawak routes, which started operating in January this year.

Leong said Firefly would also base a 737-800 at Kota Kinabalu and would increase flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu to six times daily from May 15. Currently it flies three times daily.

FireFly is also eyeing international routes from the new hub, Senai and expects to commence flights to Jakarta, Surabaya and Bandung in the third quarter of this year.

Bangkok will follow in the fourth quarter, Leong added.

The new hub brings FireFly's total hub infrastructures to five with its existing hubs at Subang Skypark, KL International Airport and Penang.

Asked when the airline is looking into acquiring any new aircrafts, he said most likely the slot would be available in the year 2012.

He, however reiterated that the lease market was very attractive as it was very safe.

did the reporter quote correctly or is Datuk Eddy Leong being very optimistic..

  4. I think what probably would make an air-show worth the dime spent is like having a F111 stealth, Thunderbolts, Apaches, Typhoon, some WW2 Brit & German aircrafts like Spitsfire, Hurricanes, Junkers, ME109, or even the Japanese Zero-sen.. It's just breath-taking just to hear the radial engine roars.. There are many collectors in the west that regularly service and flies them. I wondered if LIMA will think of this to make the coming show more exciting and unique in this part of the region.

i doubt LIMA organizer would even consider this idea. as LIMA is more focus toward those high-tech & state-of-the-art birds, i mean, its not Bolehland standard to have those WW2 birds on exhibit. thus, resulted in the mediocre LIMA '09...

  5. I guessed the incident refer to this news...

Police Inspector Dies In Copter Crash

KAMPAR, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- A police inspector was killed when the helicopter he was piloting on a training flight crashed and burst into flames in a mining area in Malim Nawar, 45 km from here, today.

Inspector Mohd Shukri Othman, 31, died on the spot in the accident which occurred at about 3 pm, said Kampar police chief Supt Abdul Aziz Salleh.

He said Mohd Shukri, who was attached to the Bukit Aman police headquarters, was on a solo flight from the flight training centre in Ipoh in a Robinson 44 (R-44) helicopter.

The body of the inspector, who hailed from Kepala Batas, Penang, was sent to the Kampar Hospital, he said.

Mohd Shukri, who leaves a wife and a child, had started his helicopter pilot training in the middle of this year, he added.

Firemen put out the fire at the crash site.

  6. Another E-4B was detected in the skies today, perhaps the one you saw most likely 73-1676 operating as "HUGE 25".

Reported that the C-17 which arrived SZB today operated as "Reach357". Rumoured that five C-17s will overfly Malaysia tomorrow from U-Tapao to Jakarta Halim.

Woooww....that's a lot of C-17s flying around above us this few days and not to mention the number of E-4Bs and the likes of An-124s. Thanks MIR for the info.

  7. Lucky Victor, for months didn't spot in SZB and yet the big one greeted him when he was around.

BTW, your photos are too bright on my computer. Need to brush up your Photoshop skills

I do agree, I only realized it after posting here. i guess my Photoshop skill a bit rusty... :sorry:

Just passed by Skypark just now. Saw UAE 737 BBJ waiting for someone for departure and one Qatari Bombardier Challenger parked there. Any info on that? If not mistaken , the Qatari aircraft is A7-AAN.

Chaity, we missed this particular BBJ as I saw her coming in to land around 6.15pm (17/10/10) while driving along Sg Buloh-Kuala Selangor road.. :nea:

RUSLAN is so BIG and WHITE and it was so SUNNY that you could ever imagine

have to agree, was caught off guard and got no time to adjust camera setting (& lens)... =@

  8. No open house, but look out for Royal Thai Air Force aircrafts ;) Ex Air Thamal 20/2010 is taking place at Butterworth AFB (21 June- 1 July 2010). Several RTAF C-130 arrived BWH three days ago, brought air force personnel & equipments. They sent their F5s, C-130s & Bell 412s in 2009. Well..who knows, probably their F-16s will rock up at Butterworth this year B)

    Thanks bro for the info...
