the security in Sabah should have been heightened long time ago, especially in the 80's and 90's. from what I heard from my neighbours (most of them are active and ex-militarymen who had served in Sabah), these Sulu's had been strenghtening their present in Sabah for a long time. in fact, weaponary such as M16, M203, homemade shotgun and various type of side-arm is a common sight in some of the villages. having these illegal Sulu's in our own backyard is a timebomb waiting to explode.

Great shots of RMAF's EC and AN124........
I did not notice any winching motor attached to the chopper, wonder whether this chopper will be SAR capable ......

How about Kuantan AFB ?.....
Commercial+airforce base: Kuantan AFB, Kuching AFB, Subang AFB & Labuan AFB
Military only base: Butterworth AFB, Gong Kedak AFB & Simpang AFB (soon cease to exist)
Training school/academy: Alor Star & Ipoh
-
Butterworth, Gong Kedak and another one? Simpang?
Butterworth AFB, Gong Kedak AFB and SImpang AFB (used to be & will soon cease to exist)..
-
are there oportunity of this airport be open for commercial flight? firefly maybe?
Butterworth AFB is 1 of 3 fully military airbase in the country that is definitely a NO-NO for commercial flight.

Marvellous shots, guys!! Wah..there's an array of C402 in the last photo.

Does anyone know what happened to M53-01 and 9M-NAA? BBJ2(VP-BHN) brought the PM to Myanmar today. It has the Malaysian flag and coat of arms on the fuselage...is the aircraft leased by the Malaysian gov. ?
maybe not enough budget to maintain those 2 birds (as the case with MMEA amphibious bird is SZB)???
-
Great shots Laurie.. i was actually having a meeting in Seberang Jaya at the time those jets flying in and out of Butterworth..
-
Excellent catch Ong...
Happy Chinese New Year to yo bro....

the problem with these sort of news is that, the airlines goes 'kaput' even before it starts flying. remember the news on a few airlines which springs up in Perak, Malacca a few months ago? they even had a launching ceremony only to go under without even flying a single flight.
both sabah & s'wak had to get someone who's a season player in the airline industry if they're serious about forming an alternative airline to serve the people in both states. forming an airline company is no monkey business or else more wastage of public fund is going to occur.

Bring back Feri Malaysia.
time for new airline..BORNEO Airways & 1Borneo....

I think that the A400s should be OK as they are under RMAF. RMAF will use them to supplement/replace the C-130s.
Can't remember why the EC725s are ordered - are they meant to replace the Nuris?
Yup, they are meant to replace the ageing Nuris. i seriously doubt the number of EC725 would be sufficient to totally replace the whole lot of Nuris. best bet would be, half the Nuris would be phase out and cannibalize for spare parts. while the other half remain flying until the RMAF gets enough funding to buy new batch of helis.
-
someone should compile a list of all these failures and publish them to remind the gov that someone does remember !
the lists should be publish and shown to all ordinary M'sian where ever they may be, especially to eligible and sound minded voters. showing the list to the govt/politicians will not change a thing. with the A400s & EC725s coming soon, i bet those birds too will fly for a year or so and then store indefinitely.

Thanks for link Victor A. Any photos to share from the Maritime part?
Sorry Waiping, I missed the Maritime show as I was on board KD Kelantan at the time. had a good chat though with our navy man..
-
You were there on Saturday morning Victor?....
sorry didn't see you. Friday morning I shot from near the lake directly opposite Mahsuri Hall
and Saturday, on the hill near the DCA quarters, next to LANGKAWI sign opposite the terminal.
Yup, I was there too on Saturday morning. Sorry I didn't see you too. I went to MIEC on Friday afternoon but skip the Saturday morning/afternoon only to regret it after seeing from afar on board the deck of KD Kelantan that C-17, F-5E etc was flying...
Just to share some photos of the US Navy P-3C Orion and the RAAF A330 tanker.
I only know CDR should be Commander, but what about CMDCM. They also have names on the nose gear cover.
-
Norman, judging from the angle of your Saturday morning photos, I guess you must be standing somewhere near where I was taking photos with a few other foreign spotters....

Great catch & interesting photos guys..well done
