  1. Hi guys,

I will be flying with SriLankan Airlines (UL) end of the year from LHR to KUL via CMB. Just wondering if anyone has been on this airline before and if you do, some tips on Y seat selection will be greatly appreciated! I will be flying their A340-300 on LHR-CMB stretch and A330-200 on CMB-KUL.

Have tried airlinequality, seatguru and seatexperts. There is not a great deal of information about this airline :pardon:

I heard that UL offer descent Y class products but that was about 4-5 years ago, not sure if they have done any upgrades since then...

  2. HC Chai, could you please PM me with the taxi details? We have 3 people travelling together so it makes a lot of sense. Just hoping that taxis in JB is not as dodgy as those in KL.

OK, but I need to get the number from my mum, so it is going to take a day or two. Hope that's ok.

In the meantime you might want have a try on Silkair (www.silkair.com). Their fare ex-SIN can be a bargain. I am not sure which date you are travelling but in late August/early September they seem to have quite a few seats available at S$346 inclusive (RM795) for SIN-BKI return. AK fare in late August can be quite expensive, so it is worth considering Silkair if their schedule fits your (they don't fly to BKI everyday though, thats the downside). Dont forget Silkair is a full service airline so you get meal, drinks, allocated seating, 100% female cabin crew ;) and most importantly, the hassle of travelling all the way from SIN to Senai.... Just a suggestion...

  3. Choong,

You can choose to pre-book a taxi to travel from Senai to any destination in SIN (or vice versa) at S$50. The car seats four so if you are travelling with family/friends the price is quite reasonable. You need to phone them up and give them your mobile phone number, flight details. I used them once in December last year and recommended it - unlike buses you dont even need to get off the car at immigration when going into Singapore (not sure about coming back to Malaysia though). I learnt this from a friend and it looks like we folks from Kuching use their service quite a lot, especially AirAsia passengers who are unable to use the MAS bus service to SIN. Let me know if you are interested.

  4. Wow only 50 sen! I guess it will end up more like RM50 when everything is added up

I really miss the old days when only the airport tax of RM5 is to be added to the air fare....

These days airlines are advertising their fares artificially low but at the same time throwing in so many hidden extras such as fuel surcharge, adminstration fees etc. I really hope the advertising watchdog will do something about it! <_>

  5. Not to say compare where this is totally difference airport people in BKI are more have a better deal as normal fare for BKI to SYD return that show in the internet can be as low as BND 762 = RM1828 *rate 2.4/RM. And RBA is a full fare airline. So what I mean is that the airfare for JQ is not that really cheap at all.

Yes BKI based passengers are lucky to have RBA. I flew them early this year (around Easter time) on BKI-BNE via BWN. Return was only RM1600+ (RM1100+ plus taxes) per person! :good:

  6. Seriously, I think delays and overcrowding are far worse in the US than what we have here. Correct me if I'm wrong please.

I have never been to the States but I guess on this side of the Atlantic the London airports (especially Heathrow!) are just as bad. I flew BA three times in the past 12 months and ALL the flights were delayed between 1 - 2.5hrs. Looks like this is becoming the norm and people here are getting used to it :(

  7. Wow thanks for the tips everyone!

Keith, you really do look like a professional fare hunter ;)

Unfortunately the fare you listed in the cheapest discount bucket are all gone. :(

I tried the Iberia website, roundtrip Madrid - Singapore via London both ways works out £515 all in. What a surprise. MAD-LHR, LHR-SIN on BA and SIN-LHR on QF. Good since I am not an Iberia fan. The only problem is the connecting time in London is quite short (2-4hrs), and I dont think I can convince the check in agent at SIN to tag my luggage to LHR instead of MAD. I tried multiple stop option but the fare went up to something ridiculous.

  8. Hi all,

Just trying find out what is the best way to get a good deal for travelling in peak season, e.g. in Christmas period between UK and Malaysia?

I was looking for flights ex- London around 22-Dec (give or take 2 - 3 days), returning just after New Year. Both SQ and MH are around £950 including taxes! Non-direct flights (EK,QF) are about £100-200 cheaper, but still far cry from the £400 incl taxes during low season.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :)

  10. Free seats again! That's cool!

I am tempted to fly KCH - PEN this December around Christmas time, not sure if the free seats are available during that period (peak season).

Anyways, does anyone know if the East Malaysian operations (i.e. KCH and BKI based aircrafts) will be getting an upgrade to A320s?

  11. I was only searching for flights to Australia (Brisbane in particular) and found the MATTA fare isn't really a bargain. Maybe it works out OK for those living in KL / Klang Valley, but for East Malaysians like me, travelling via Singapore on SQ or QF seem more attractive, and still works out cheaper even you have to pay a ridiculous RM860 on KCH-SIN roundtrip. My sis just pop into the Royal Brunei airlines office in KK last week and their fare to Brisbane return is RM1,621 (including taxes) ex-KK! This is about RM800 cheaper than MAS 'offer' ex-KUL..... I have booked the flight and now I am hoping they will be using the refurbished 767 on the BWN-BNE run. Otherwise I need to find a way to entertain myself during flight :-p

  12. My parents made a few calls yesterday, but the offer doesn't seem attracting enough, price low, but plus tax =@ . Try to book KUL-HKG, MH offer MYR60 lower than CX onboard MH A333 with no better IFE, Naah, let just go for CX A333 <_ the domestic saver one sounds great perhaps a side trip to kk and tgg i darn sure miss awana kijal so much src="%7B___base_url___%7D/uploads/emoticons/default_yahoo.gif" alt=":yahoo:">

I tried the online booking for flights to Australia. Looks like they only do one way and return fares online. I am still figuring out how to book an open jaw ticket (KUL-BNE, then MEL-KUL) looks like I need to phone them up.

Seth you're right, the fare doesn't seem attractive... even SQ normal web fare (min 2 ppl travelling together) is about RM200+ cheaper... :(

  13. MAS Travel Fair 2007 webpage + the special video advertisement is here:

    http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/matf2007/main.html#

'Deals so good, you'll find any excuse to travel' is the slogan for this year travel fair.

Thanks for the link! My parents are looking for flights to Brisbane in March so I'm hoping that MH MATTA fair will live up to their slogan :) ... Looking at last year's promotion the fare on this route (ex-KUL) is RM1300+tax, based on the current fuel surcharge level the total would work out approx RM2100. Hmmm... this is not any cheaper than SQ 2-to-go Sweetdeals (ex-SIN) at S$885 incl taxes (about RM2100 too).....

  14. Here's the thing i dont get.. many ADUN and MP from sabah and sarawak (possibly "speaking on behalf of citizen") keep complaining on FAX services and want MH back

There must be a reason behind this... people don't complain out of no reason. I have just been back to Sarawak and what I have heard from friends and relatives is that FAX is very unrealiable (at least on KCH-MKK run). Even my relatives from Mukah decided to take a bus to Kuching (thats a 12hr+ bus ride!).
