  1. ... I hope you get my point.

Now I undertand why! I like the way you depict MH/SQ as WBA/MU! :D

This is a big thing for me, because I am now a Krisflyer member and so all flights from now on (especially non business trip) will take all applicable Star Alliance airlines into consideration

Krisflyer is a good FFP, although it may not be the best FFP around if you want to make Star Alliance airlines redemption. IMHO bmi is way better but sadly their days are numbered.

  2. Oh when did this start and why is it only temporary?

Looking at the MAS website Ex KUL MH4 doesnt run anymore and EX LHR MH1 doesnt run on a Sunday. Is this correct?

November is normally a quiet time in the UK so its not surprising to see airlines reducing frequencies or downsizing planes, especially UK has the grimmest economic outlook among the developed countries.

MAS e-timetable is just as bad as their online booking engine!

  3. wait a minute..

do i still have to pay for the seat although i did not make reservation.. i mean do i have to pay it on check in?

    and 1 baggage cost RM25..hmm....

You only need to pay if you want to choose your seat in advance. Otherwise the check in staff will allocate a seat for you at check in FOC.

As the SIN-KCH sector do not have zero tax, you might want to try Jetstar (20kg luggage allowance) or AirAsia, both departing from T1. :pardon:

Also MH zero fare is still bookable until 9 Nov.

  4. As some of you may have already know, Tiger Airways are offering cheap fares on SIN-KUL and SIN-KCH at S$29.99 (approx RM72) each way inclusive of taxes and surcharges.

I was playing with their booking engine and couldn't belive my eyes when I saw this

    Tiger2.jpg

It looks like a fare error to me? Taxes and fees on KCH-SIN sector have been zeroed out, however this only works when the promotional fare is RM6. On the SIN-KCH sector, taxes and fees are RM152.

So its RM6 for KCH-SIN one way and RM164 for KCH-SIN-KCH. Not a bad deal huh? ;)

Has anyone booked this flight? I have only done a dummy booking.

  5. Does anyone know for sure if Air Asia had stopped operating on the BKI-MFM route?

I have booked my flights on 8 Jan 2009 from BKI to MFM. I have not received any email or what-so-ever regarding change of routing. :help:

A friend of mine only received a notification on the suspension of KCH-DPS about 3 weeks before she was due to fly this route. At first she was only offered a full refund. After a few phone calls and emails, AK agreed to book her on KCH-KUL-DPS FOC.

You can try to get AK to book you on BKI-SZX (this route is still operating), or just accept a refund and book yourself on MH BKI-HKG, which is around RM369 a.i. at the moment (not too bad for full service plus you get to use BKI T1)

  6.

Tiger Airways to launch Flights between Singapore and Kuching

    Wednesday, 22 October 2008

Tiger Airways is to launch flights between Singapore and Kuching on 20 November 2008. To celebrate the new route, the Singapore-based airline has 15,000

seats on sale for 1 cent excluding taxes and charges for travel from 20 November 2008 to 5 October 2009.

Rosalynn Tay, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Singapore said, "The access to this new route comes at a perfect time as we take an additional A320

aircraft into our fleet. The delivery of these brand new aircraft means Tiger Airways can grasp new opportunities such as Kuching without cutting back flying

to other destinations unlike some of our competitors."

Tiger Airways Singapore new low fare flights to Kuching will depart Singapore at 14:35 arriving in Kuching at 15:55 daily. Flights from Kuching will depart at

16:25 arriving in Singapore at 17:45 daily.

Is she referring to Jetstar, or Airasia?

Could this be the reason the Macau routes were axed (BKI-MFM, KCH-MFM, JHB-MFM) in favour of SIN-KUL, SIN-BKI and SIN-KCH?

Did Jetstar reduce frequency on their existing routes?

  7. We were using KUL to MEL as an example; hence the airport taxes were MYR, the airport of origin was KUL and the quoted fare was in MYR - hence there should not be any variance arising from currency fluctuation in the ROE between MYR and AUD, unless the destination airport - MEL - charges the pax some fee for handling the pax's arrival (which is not the norm). Maybe, MH's fuel surcharge to MEL from KUL is quoted in USD and this is the cause of that MYR3 variance.

According to ita, MH fuel surcharge on KUL-MEL is US$195. One also needs to pay an Australian International Passenger Service Charge, for MEL it is A$13.05.

However MH seems to be using a different set of fuel surcharge on MH Low Fare / Supersaver (fare shown in red). For KUL-MEL at RM734 o/w a.i., fuel surcharge looks more like in the region of US$100

In fairness to MAS, there is a small print saying "includes taxes and surcharges as of 15 October 2008"

  8. TR flying to BKI when??? Dec also??? Before we were nothing more than a dying airport...now with 4 airlines flying to and from SIN alone....crazy....i really dont understand....soon, some will just die of "air liberalization casualty"....more destination is what I was looking for...like Bangkok or Perth....AND BALI!!!!!

It will be 5 airlines by Mar 09 :D

I guess the demand is still there, it's just that KCH-SIN route has been overpriced and not opened for competition for years.

  9. Any input for the seat selection? Since 11A and 11K (bulkhead seats) are booked.. I'm thinking of 12A and 12K. Any feedback on MH 772 seat plans?

The window between row 12 and 14 is blocked, so as rows 20 and 29. (Please correct me if i am wrong)

Window seats at the rear cabin (row 30 onwards) will have a better view as it is not obstructed by the wings...

  10. Im not quite sure if MH had lowered the surcharge, i made a random search flight to HKG departing from BKI adnd find out that the surcharge still remaining t RM300++ level.

You are partly right... Having a second look it appeared that the fuel surcharge is reduced only on the cheapest fare. All other fares still have the same fuel surcharge as before.

Anyway, nice to see that MH is taking the lead in advertising the all inclusive fares.

  11. can this flight consider as direct flight? KUL-SIN-BKI-SIN-KUL. i think this flight exist right?

This route doesn't exist anymore. At present MAS doesn't even operate SIN-BKI nonstop :(

In the old days one can do a domestic trip on KUL-SIN-BKI and KUL-SIN-KCH. The KUL-SIN-KCH morning run (MH640/641) was operated by a widebody (A300, DC10, MD11, A330). At one time the night run (MH644/645) was operated by A310. I have only seen one photo of MH A310, they are so rare.... Suppose Kuchingites would call these the 'good old days'...

  12. A friend of mine booked a flight via an online travel website. It should be an instant confirmation but instead he received a phone call from the travel agent few hours later, saying the fare shown on the website was a mistake and it should be £50 more. There is a PNR number for this booking but it has not been ticketed, i.e. no ticket number.

Just wondering does one have any negotiation power to get the travel agent to ticket the booking without paying the extra £50? The credit card has not been charged.

    Thanks in advance.

  13. This is great news! Lets hope the demand is still there. IIRC, until the early 90's, MAS was offering more seats on KCH-SIN non-stop than KCH-KUL non-stop!

But why KCH is always in the 2nd spot after BKI....hmmmmm

Hmm, interesting. As Singapore LCC's are given only a maximum of 7 flights per week to each cities until Mar 2009, could it be Tiger Airways is doing it the other way round, i.e. SIN-KCH in Nov 08 and SIN-BKI in Mar 09?!
