trying out my new lens 70-300mm L.. pls feel free to comment. :drinks:

Looks good from a small image. Color accuracy seem to be good too. Very L lens like. :good:

If you don't mind me asking, how's the critical sharpness of this lens? As in how much better compared to your previous lens? Issues with corner softness or image softness beyond certain focal length? Thanks.

  2. Thanks Kian Hong, that's my intention to shoot with the dugong

Wait for a more sexy aircraft mah ... Dugong not sexy! :p

  3. Surprised that no one pick it up even though it happened on 12 FEB 2011. A CASA 212 Aviocar 100 PK-ZAI belonging to SMAC crashed on approach to Tg Pinang Airport. All 5 on board perished.

  5. Was in Senai yesterday with friends to catch yet another B747-100! :p

This Bangladesh registered B747-121SF S2-AFA (cn 19650/24) belong to Logistic Air Cargo. This Jumbo was delivered to the now defunct PAN AM on March 1970 as N743PA 'Clipper Black Sea' and remained with Pan Am until 1991. Then it was given new lease of life with Tower Air Cargo as N617FF after being converted to Special Freighter in Wichita, KS. In early 2010, Logistic Air acquired this 40yo airframe for cargo charter.

From far, this 40yo airframe still looks pretty good. ;)

    S2-AFA_WMKJ_141210.jpg

To get up into aircraft, one gotta climb the ladder via the avionic equipment bay.

    S2-AFA_WMKJ_141210-2.jpg

Compare to any current generation aircraft, this cockpit is old school!

  6. Thanks guys ... HND indeed is a great airport to catch all the ANA n JAL specials which are not to be seen outside Japan. All the observation decks located at the top floor of each terminal - T1, T2 and international. They are open air with wire fence separating u from the aircraft. All these fence have lens holes to cater to spotter. And I believe all obs deck have basic facilities like cafeteria or toilets.

Sandeeep : Both SQ flights are either arriving too late (SQ634 2305) or too early (SQ636 0515). No train for me to go back to hotel if i stayed. :p

Here's a few more from HND. Enjoy!

  7. Was in Tokyo for a short vacation n few days of spotting. I would like to share some specials that I caught both in HND n NRT.

Weather had not been very kind to me, partly cloudy and some rain too for my entire stay, which was abnormal according some locals. None the less, I enjoy myself tremendously spotting in HND n NRT - the variety of specials livery and very spotter-friendly observation decks on every single terminals are something to die for. :yahoo:

  10. Fantastic shots, Kian :good: Does the Phenom has a lav onboard? And is that Learjet25 has been converted to a freighter/'Con Air'? No cabin windows meh? :pardon:

*Recieved info that 9MNAA arrived Singapore tonight and will return back to Malaysia mid afternoon tomorrow. But not sure whether it went to XSP or SIN.

Thanks MIR... Yes it's behind the partition at aft cabin. Yup ... the Learjet 25 just been converted and still on jacks.

yup ...it arrived as Perdana 1 at Changi.

  11. Was at Seletar on this lovely afternoon attending the Aircraft Appreciation Program - Embraer Executive Jets jointly organized by WingsOverAsia.com & Embraer.

Aircraft used for demo was the very popular Embraer EMB-500 Phenom 100 PT-FQM (c/n 50000139). IMO, this is one of the better looking aircraft in Light Jet category. On apron Phenom 100 has much better present than it's competitors like CJ1+, Mustang, Eclipse 500 as it's much taller.

    PT-FQM_WSSL_180910-3.jpg

Powered by two PW617F producing 1695Lbs thrust each. Utilizing deicing boots instead of heated leading edge found on larger jet.

    PT-FQM_WSSL_180910-5.jpg

Interior is designed jointly with BMW DesignWorks. Seat 4 in club configuration at the back and 2 infront. Certified for single pilot operations.

    PT-FQM_WSSL_180910-2.jpg

Front end is powered by Garmin 1000 based Prodigy flight deck with two 10inch PFD and one MFD.

    PT-FQM_WSSL_180910.jpg

Seem to a norm now that aircraft nav lights and some interior lights are powered by LED arrays.

    PT-FQM_WSSL_180910-4.jpg

Last but not least, found this vintage Learjet 25A inside the hangar. The difference in flight deck alone is just astounding compared to the Phenom 100.

    Thanks for viewing. Cheers :)

  12. For all you know, FAA/Boeing/Airbus are already working on pilotless commercial planes, so O'Leary is not far off. :)

    See; http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2010-06/faa-launches-exploration-unmanned-commercial-flight

If one is to read unmanned commercial flights = unmanned commercial airliners, then one probably had taken the fantasy a little too far. Even the terms itself is just oxymoron.

IMO, unmanned commercial flights in the articles could refer to UAVs use for commercial applications. For examples, remote sensing, banner towing, mapping, news reporting etc etc. Embraer was just talking about single pilots ops for commercial airliners. There are lotsa technical and practicality challenges which can not be solved in the near terms. One being how pilot can jump directly into Captain seat without the required experiences.

I don't see unmanned commercial airliners appearing anytime soon in the near future. At least not within the next 20-30 years.
