Radzi 2 Report post Posted April 30, 2012 Polet Airlines, Antonov An-124 departed Johor to Perth earlier today as 'POT 4726'. Just landed in JHB about 1545 LT, and there is an An-124 at the cargo area. Another one perhaps?

Radzi 2 Report post Posted May 1, 2012 (edited) Sorry, no photo. I was traveling as a pax in FFC, on the last day of FY crew operation. Only see it thru the cabin window, and I was on the wrong side. Edited May 1, 2012 by Radzi
BC Tam 2 Report post Posted May 1, 2012 Sorry, no photo. I was traveling as a pax in FFC, on the last day of FY crew operation. Only see it thru the cabin window, and I was on the wrong side. Must be mighty frustrating for one who is more accustomed to plane spotting opportunities that the rest of us can ever dream about (Good to see you back in the forum captain !) Radzi 2 Report post Posted May 29, 2012 Anybody know the story behind the reason why the airport is now known as "Senai International Airport" rather than "Sultan Ismail International Airport"?
Kenneth Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2012 Anybody know the story behind the reason why the airport is now known as "Senai International Airport" rather than "Sultan Ismail International Airport"? as the former name of WMKJ is named after former Sultan of Johor, no body can change it unless ......... http://www.senaiairport.com/press.asp?rootid=100003&menuid=100076&linkid=247 Airport gets a new name and a facelift 25 January 2012 JOHOR BARU: The Sultan Ismail International Airport has now been renamed Senai International Airport following a letter issued by the state government a month ago. The letter which carried out a decree from the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, instructed that the name to be changed with immediate effect, said state secretary Datuk Obet Tawil. "The Sultan has instructed for the airport to be renamed and it has been in effect about a month ago," said Obet recently. Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATSSB) is currently embarking on a 20-year master plan to develop and enhance the airport to boost growth as well as to propel the airport and its surrounding development towards an integrated airport city. The airport has undergone a major refurbishment. Among others, it involves the upgrading of the passenger terminal, extension of runway, new indoor and outdoor car park and construction of new cargo terminal, enhancement of the aerodrome and development of non-aeronautical areas such as commercial and aerospace park. Senai International airport now has the capability to handle up to 3.5 million passengers per year and 80, 000 tonnes of cargo per year. The Aeromalls sets a new vibe for passengers and visitors in shopping and dining experience. To date, there are three major airlines operating in Senai Airport, namely Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Air Asia. In another development on improving aviation and airport collaboration between Senai International Airport and Changi Airport, Senai Airport Terminal Services deputy chief executive officer Suffian Baharuddin said there were many areas the two airports would co-operate to grow air travel and aviation activities for both countries. "We look forward to discuss such opportunities and we are hopeful that there would be positive outcomes which would provide mutual benefits for both airports and both countries," said Suffian. The strengthening of collaboration was proposed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong during a meeting in Putrajaya recently. WMKJ used to be the location of pilot training of SQ's A380 & Boing 777, unfortunately now everything is quiet and it's a boring airport for spotter........... only interesting to be spotted if there are info from Insider pertaining to the flight activity of the airport................ ATI DC-8-62CF (N41CX) calling up as 'ATN731' and the GLEX used its rego as callsign. Apart from SIA and Tiger Airways..Volga-Dnepr(An-124), Polet Airlines(An-124),Meridien Avia (An-12), and Lynden(L-100) are occasional to WMKJ. Usually flying mining equipments to Australia. MMLim 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2012 Is there any active spotter for WMKJ nowadays? The location provided in the link http://www.malaysianwings.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=2084 seems not easy to access with normal sedan. Tried my luck few months back and found that the location beside the cargo terminal seems not bad, just that doing it alone seems risky.
