It is confirmed over RTM Radio news just now.

News excerpt from BERNAMA:

Missing Helicopter Found Burnt Near Kalimantan Border

General

July 25, 2005 21:20 PM

KUCHING, July 25 (Bernama) -- The Bell 206 Jet Ranger helicopter belonging to Hornbill Skyways which had been reported missing this afternoon was found burnt in a mountain slope near the Sarawak-West Kalimantan border not far away from Ulu Baleh in the Kapit division.

The fate of the three passengers and pilot known as Kapt Razali Sani are not known. The identities of the three passengers -- two of whom are Survey and Mapping Department officers while the other a military personnel -- have yet to be disclosed.

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner SAC1 Abang Abdul Wahab Abang Julai said the helicopter wreckage was discovered by three helicopters despatched for the search and rescue mission at about 5.25pm.

"So far, we are not sure about the condition of the victims because the rescue helicopters could not land in the area due to darkness and strong winds," he said.

He said two Hornbill Skyways' helicopters and one from the police's aerial unit were involved in the operation launched this afternoon.

Abang Abdul Wahab said the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) had informed the police about the incident at 2.45pm.

The ill-fated helicopter took off from Long Singgut at 10.20am to carry out an aerial survey over the Kapit division up to the border before it lost contact with the control tower.

"According to the DCA, the helicopter did not report for landing since 1pm and the control tower has failed to contact the aircraft," he said.

Long Singgut is an "Orang Ulu" tribe settlement located near to the Kalimantan border.

A journey by boat to the settlement from Kapit town takes about two days depending on the Sungai Baleh tide.

This is the second incident involving helicopters in a month in the state after the one belonging to MHS Helicopter Services Aviation Bhd (MHS) chartered by Shell Malaysia made an emergency landing at sea about 130km off Bintulu.

i think its about time for DCA to conduct a full check on Hornbill Skyways just to make sure ALL their aircraft air safe and to make sure their pilots are well trained to fly the planes.

Hope that everybody survives. Flying choppers in those area must be a trying experience.

BTW,what is the registration of the helicopter?

"Flying choppers in those area must be a trying experience".

Agree...it meet all the criteria;

- Heavy AUW

- Hi Alt Operations

- Geographical Condition / Situation

- Weather

- Difficulty in Communication

- Very confined landing area

- Time

However IMHO Long Sinyut and Horse Mt are having the most beautiful clear water stream that you can't find it in any other place in Malaysia.

Really hope that all pax and crew survive.

.. and DCA will answer, "We'll wait for another crash before we decide to conduct on safety studies on Hornbill Skyways"

Oh wait, there aren't too many helicopters left!

Unfortunately, only 1 survived (Land Survey Officer), 2 died (Pilot & Army 'escort'), & 1 still missing.

R.I.P to those who didn't make it.

The missing person was found dead. And the surviving victim refused to be airlifted due to his phobia of flying.

About the Bukit Batu Tiban, it is said that the place is haunted blink.gif .

the other guy was found looking pretty relaxed . able to welcome rescuers with a smile as well .. not bad to live in that jungle for 4 days straight without necessities ...

Personally I don't really believe that. That is what ppl say. But from what I heard that hill looks like a man lying down with the mouth open and the helicopter crashed at the 'mouth' (can somebody verify this?)
