Foreign Carriers and Malaysia

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, seeing as that we have a dedicated thread for Middle East Airliners, spoke to Azizul and decided to create a dedicated thread for Asian Carriers and their operations to Malaysia. Seeing that KUL is slowly but steadily growing and also with Asian Open skies coming up around the corner, it would certainly be rather interesting to see what the development would be like. News regarding new routes, new airlines, increase in freq etc is welcomed from all to be posted and discussed here. Please don't post any new regarding MH or AK and their operations here as they already have dedicated threads respectively.

Starting of with some Good News,

BIMAN to operate 777 2 weekly to KUL

http://airlineroute.net/2010/06/10/bg-kulsin-s10/#more-21704

China Airlines to use A340 in S10

From 30JUN10 to 12AUG10 and 02OCT10 to 30OCT10, China Airlines’ Taipei – Kuala Lumpur service to is to be operated by Airbus A340-300 on daily basis.

For the summer season, A340 operates along with A330 on selected days outside the date period noted above.

Vietnam Airlines increases freq on Ho Chi Minh - KUL

Vietnam Airlines from 18JUN10 is increasing Ho Chi Minh – Kuala Lumpur service from 7 to 11 weekly.

http://airlineroute.net/2010/06/10/vn-sgnkul-s10/#more-21484

And the Bad:

Eva Air reduces Taipei - KUL from 6 to 3 weekly by August 2010. No mention of aircraft type though.

Moving forward, I hope this thread will be used to share news and discussions about Asian carriers and their operation in Malaysia :drinks:

Shenzhen Airlines Flies Xi'an-Shenzhen-KUL

Wednesday, 7 July 2010

Beginning 29 March 2010, Shenzhen Airlines flies passengers four times weekly from Xi’an to Kuala Lumpur via Shenzhen.

The new Xi’an-Kuala Lumpur route will help increase tourist arrivals from the northwest of China. To date, there are 125 weekly direct flights from China to Malaysia, providing 25,154 seats.

The General Manager of the Malaysian branch of Shenzhen Airlines, Steven Weng, said that the Xi’an to Kuala Lumpur route is the third air route the airlines opened after five years of operations in Malaysia. “The other two routes comprise Shenzhen to Kuala Lumpur and Nanning of the Guangxi province to Kuala Lumpur,” he added.

The route utilises Airbus A-320 type of aircraft. Shenzhen Airlines takes off from Xi’an at 6.00 pm and lands in Kuala Lumpur at 1.30 am after a stopover at Shenzhen. On the return leg, Shenzhen Airlines leaves Kuala Lumpur at 2.30 am and reaches Xi’an at 11.10 am.

KUL is still being left alone in the dark.

TOKYO August 6, 2010 - ANA announced its decision to launch two new international routes from Narita next year, resuming the Narita-Jakarta route from January 2011, and inaugurating the Narita-Manila route in March 2011.

This route expansion will strengthen ANA's Southeast Asia network. ANA currently operates flights from Narita to Bangkok, Singapore and Ho-Chi-Min City and recently announced the launch of two additional services from Haneda to Bangkok and Singapore which will start in October. With the announcement of these two new routes, ANA will operate a total of nine daily flights that service seven routes to five Southeast Asia destinations. This network will provide an increase in the number of choices available to passengers traveling between Japan and Southeast Asian destinations and will improve the convenience of transit passengers connecting at Narita to routes to and from North America.

Update on Eva Air. Previously posted reduction from 6 weekly to 3 weekly doesn't take place. Has been reduced to 4 weekly. While SIN goes daily with 77W!

Compared with current 5J schedule, this additional 5J flight is civilized and will put pressure on MH KUL-MNL O&D traffic.

I suppose 77W is the refurb. 2-class 772. SV's choice of letters can be confused with them operating 772LR and 773ER.

So SV now flies to KUL from JED, RUH, DMM and MED! Not bad ... pretty impressive that. Is MED and DMM a seasonal flight or is it there to stay?

Another airline swap their B747 equipment to KUL. So now only LH and Iran Air uses the B747 to KUL?

Based on what's posted here.http://airlineroute.net/2010/06/07/sv-w10intl-update1/#more-21301

77L refers to NEW 3 Class 777-200, while 77W refers to B777-300. I believe this should be discussed in the MIDDLE EASTERN thread.

Izanee, I believe MED is the only one which is a seasonal flight. DMM, RUH and JED operate weekly. More news can be found on the MIDDLE EASTERN thread.

Another airline swap their B747 equipment to KUL. So now only LH and Iran Air uses the B747 to KUL?

Wai Ping, Yes I believe so LH and Iran would be the only two regular users of B747 to KUL. However we do get the occasional B747 from Thai, Cathay and Mahan. Not to forget, there's also Korean Air Cargo and Cargolux which use B747F.

With regards to Garuda, Effective 9th AUG 2010, it was mentioned B737-800 to start flying to KUL. Has anyone seen or spotted their B738? Are they still double daily on CGK-KUL-CGK run?

Been doing some research on Lion Air and based on postings in 32R and L, I have not come across any pictures of Lion Air and also their website seems to still list KUL but you can't book any tickets.

Does anyone have any info on Lion Air's op to KUL? Have they stopped plying the CGK-KUL route?

As per 20OCT10 GDS timetable display, Shenzhen Airlines from 31OCT10 cancels ALL International service to South East Asia (7 routes). In winter 2010 season, the airline is only maintaining international service to Japan and Korea.

Shenzhen – Kuala Lumpur*

* This route may be resuming from 01JAN11, but currently not open for reservation

To add to Shenzhen's temporary pull out.

Air India is canning their Chennai-KUL run. This is goodbye to Air India's ops in KUL. Air India Express will continue to ply the Chennai-KUL Sector. Its sad to see that our neighbours down south and up north can get a whole load of flight from India, but KUL is just such a slacker.

This thread has gone dead for a while. Time to revive it.

Since Shenzhen Airlines had canned their ops on the NNG-KUL route, Chine Eastern have started 2 weekly KMG-NNG-KUL flight which operate during the day. Something good for the spotters to spot now. Schedule as per below.

Some changes of CX's operation into PEN which sees changes to the morning flight to KUL

Hope the year 2011 brings in more Asian carriers into KUL

CX's news brings absolute joy to me. I think it's about time international carriers explore the potential of Malaysian airports other than KUL. Amongst the other 3 large international gateways into Malaysia (BKI, KCH, PEN), I actually see PEN as having the biggest potential to rake in more international carriers, due to its business, commercial, industrial and tourism elements.

Emirates should seriously consider PEN. A tag-on with another destination will be a good start.
