  3. The portion, still the same lor... As for bread roll... not for domestic sectors. Some goes to appetizer. Regarding EY Nasi Lemak, now it comes with chicken rendang together with sambal ikan bilis, sotong or udang. On some international sectors... they recently introduced a brand new n larger side plate for appetizer. MAS also will re-introduced EY caseroles on most of its international flights. Cabin Crew and Catering are now under new department called In-Flight Service Department. Starting next month, Jakarta became the newest night-stop city for D-Fleet (737) cabin and tech crews.
  4. Wahhh Roti Prata for breakfast. Now EY pax have 3-choice of meals instead of just two for breakfast. The introduction of roti prata onboard domestic flights few months ago was on trial/survey basis. Specially designed for hajj chartered flights. Plus, all non-meal domestic sectors now known as "juice(+ milo) and salted peanuts" sectors. Effective today, children flying onboard domestic flights ex-kul to borneo, or ex BKI/KCH to KUL, please request your children giveways from the cabin crew ok! (under 12 y/o only ) Playing cards are now available on selected flights ex kul to some china routes. Soon, on most international flights. Definately not cost saving, but good for pax.
  5. They are in the process of changing/reshuffle their new creative communication. New agency to handle MAS creative communication to be announced later this month/early month if i'm not mistaken.
  6. There are three types (to my knowledge) of transmitters (or ELT) carried on board MAS a/c. - RESCU (Radio Emergency Search Communication Unit) 99 on board B737 - 48 hours - RESCU 406 - on board B734/A330 series - 50 hours - ADT AF (Automatic Fixed) /AP (Automatic Portable) - onboard A330 series RESCU 99/406 - transmitter provides a homing signal for a range of 200 to 250 nautical miles by transmitting distress signal on 121.5 MHz for civil distress frequency, 243 MHz for military frequency and 406.025 MHz for satellite network (COSPAS-SARSAT, as someone mentioned earlier on for RESCU 406 & ADT 406 model). SARSAT = Search and Rescue Satellite Added Tracking. Operation (Crashland). - Break water solubale tape holding the antenna - Remove platic bag and fill it with water and salt (if provided) otherwise fill it with urine - Insert lower part of tthe transmitter into da bag and ensure the liquid enters the vent holes to activates the batt. - place in upright position and secure on clear, open ground to ensure max. transmission. - shake or replace the liquid at intervals time to maintain full power output Operation (Ditching). - Unroll free end of the cord - Tie cord/lanyard to slide/raft/lifevest - place transmitter in the water and let it drift ADT 406 AF - fixed at the aft ceiling of the a/c and automatically activated once on impact with G-Force strong enough to trigger ELT. Manually, lift the flip guard, pull and slide the toggle swith to the ON position. Once activated, ADT enters into waiting mode for 30 secs before actual transmission. On activation, intermittent beeps and red light flashes for 30 secs. Actual transmission, steady beebs and red light illumination (unlike RESCU units, no indicators) ADT 406 AP (same as ADT 406 AF) except this unit is a vital equip to be taken aout after impact and portable.
  7. Russia's Aeroflot to resume direct flights to Malaysia next year: report ( 3:00 p.m. ) 2006/9/15 KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) Russia's Aeroflot will likely resume direct flights next year from Moscow to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's national news agency reported Friday. Four foreign carriers _ Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Qatar and Emirates _ currently fly from Moscow to Malaysia's largest city, but none operate direct flights, Tourism Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor told Malaysian journalists Thursday while visiting Russia. Tengku Adnan, quoted by Bernama news agency, said Aeroflot Chief Executive Valery Okulov has assured him that the flights would be launched once Aeroflot takes delivery of Boeing and Airbus planes that it has ordered within the next several months. Aeroflot stopped flying to Malaysia in the early 1990s because of congestion problems at the Southeast Asian nation's old international airport, Tengku Adnan said. Malaysia's tourism ministry expects 20,000 Russian tourists this year, Tengku Adnan said. Tengku Adnan was in St. Petersburg on Friday and other ministry officials traveling with him couldn't immediately be reached to confirm the report.

  9. Media Release from MAS The implementation of the domestic aviation rationalisation tomorrow (01 August 2006) is expected to offer local travellers even more choices and benefits than ever before. Better still, travellers flying with us can expect to enjoy complimentary value-add services and a more comfortable experience, not to mention discounts and special care for certain categories of passengers, and points with their frequent flyer program, Enrich. In a media briefing held earlier this afternoon, our Managing Director, Idris Jala highlighted 25 reasons why customers should fly with 'a truly Malaysian airline'. "The removal of the floor price by the Government has given us the flexibility to develop and roll out competitively-priced products and services that cater to all segments of the population. While our domestic operations may be smaller now, it means that we have a more efficient and streamlined network that offers more flights to most destinations, with more convenient and direct connectivity to and from international destinations. "As a full service airline, flying with Malaysia Airlines means that travellers can enjoy an inflight service that has earned us numerous awards in recent years, such as Best Economy Class at the World Airline Awards and Top 3 Cabin Crew by Skytrax. Being one of only four airlines globally to be accorded the Five Star award by Skytrax, we believe we can offer a much more compelling proposition for all travellers, much than any other airline could ever possibly do here in Malaysia" he added. According to Idris Jala, travellers today are much more discerning. While price would be a consideration for most, he said that travellers also expect to have an all-in-one ticket that offers more comfortable experience when they fly, such as weatherproof access to aircraft, allocated seats, more legroom and free refreshments on board. In addition, the availability of facilities and special fares for families and the physically-challenged are important factors for most people. He added, "Now that we have taken over the P&L for our domestic operations, it is imperative that we consistently stay ahead of the pack and offer travellers more compelling reasons to fly with us. We have to ensure that we offer Malaysians fares that are transparent, with no nasty little surprises or hidden costs when we provide value-add services to our customers." This is in line with our promise to offer Malaysian hospitality - hassle free all the way, which is an integral aspect of 'Flying to Win Customers' thrust of our Business Turnaround Plan that we announced on 27 February 2006. We are a truly Malaysian airline that has helped to open our nation's economy for nearly 60 years, flying in millions of tourists every year and stimulating growth of various spin-off industries that complement the commercial aviation sector in this country. And we will continue to do so in the future. After all, Malaysia Airlines is synonymous with Malaysia." At the same time, a new advertising campaign will also kickstart tomorrow. Going Places new look produced by BluInc Media.
  10. Following the suspension of our services into Beirut (BEY) more than a week ago, effective 28 July 2006, we will commence services into the Syrian capital of Damascus (DAM) from Dubai (DXB). The thrice weekly services will be operated for a limited time until 29 August 2006. Our flights have been activated to assist passengers whose travel to and from Beirut were disrupted following the closure of the Beirut International Airport. Using a A330-300 aircraft, MH156 and MH157 originally serving Beirut, will now be temporarily rerouted operating on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. At a glance our flights will operate as follows:- MH156/KUL-DXB-DAM/0735hours (1345hours) MH157/DAM-DXB-KUL/1530hours (0800hours - the next day). Our customers will be updated when there are further schedule changes. We will resume our flights to Lebanon's capital once the airport is reopened.
  11. Ken, Yup, NB/WB thingy = for cabin crew only. But from what I heard, many promotion also going active at the moment for our pilot i.e B737 to B777 etc. MAS "loan" their cabin crew for a certain period to QR. Once done/things get better at MAS, they will come back and work for MAS once again. The next carrier to "adopt" MAS cabin crew ... EK and SQ. But no news at the moment. MAS F50/Twin Otter crew... many of them go for the MSS and then will work for FAX. One wishes not to go to FAX, will begin their B737 classes soon. MAS however will still support FAX operations (ground, handling, etc) until a certain period.
  12. The small VMY 2007 near the door actually to notified/tell/inform the passanger during boarding. Wherease the "big" Visit Malaysia Year 2007 banner (just like previous Visit Malaysia Year 1990 on MAS aircraft) at the back of the a/c will do the rest.
  13. Staff downsizing, they are planning for:- - Eliminating one non primary crew for "juice/non meal" sectors onboard B737. - Eliminating Inflight Supervisor position onboard Airbus 332/333. Hence Chief Steward/Stewardess become Cabin Crew In Charge onboard A332/333. - "D-Fleet or Narrow Body crew" currently rated only for B737/A330 due for B777 class conversion. In the end, WB crew will be operating A380, B747 (exclusively) and B777. NB crew B737, A330 (exclusively, excluding CS/CSS position) and B777. What ever happen to B738 crew, I dunno. - About 70+ MAS crew went to Qatar (1st installment). Service/Product/Etc:- - Planning to introduce pre-pack meal/juice for "juice/non-meal" sectors replacing juice/milo service in EY. - MAS may introduce another special color scheme aircraft honoring Vist Malaysia Year 2007 next year/and a small VMY sticker on all its a/c. - Blu Inc Media Sdn Bhd (Malaysia's Men's Health, Seventeen, Torque etc) may replace Berita Publishing Sdn Bhd for Going Places.
  14. Accommodation is not a factor here as hotels always give the best rate for many airlines around the world for decades. In return, they get their (fair percentage of) guests from airline customers who bought the holiday package from the airline. Further more many hotels around the world have special rate for airline crew not on duty to live, stay and play at their premises.
  15. New company (new company for us, MAS crew). Insurance, not sure but will check with my friends at AirAsia If MAS can provides insurance for her staff, sure money-making AirAsia can provide the same or even better for her staff. Unlike MAS, they compensate each and every healthy crew RM 500 per month as productivity allowance, provided no MC (or less then 2 or 3 MCs per month). Given all the facts and benefits enjoyed by many MAS crew, from company paid transportation to free crew meals/drinks onboard, free uniform to well covered medical benefits, guaranteed self privacy during long layover/nightstop... many MAS crew against the idea.
