Part 2

As the aircraft descended closer to runway 25, the party downstairs was starting to get excited. My mission up here was to get a taxi in shot with the telephoto and then a quick change to the kit lens for the water cannon. Which thankfully I managed to accomplish without dropping, smashing or getting anything smudged.

Target 1 from the aerobridge, Mike Xray Lima from Kinabalu on the turnaround to go back to Kinabalu.

And at 12.00pm sharp, 0400Z, WingsAir flight IW1378 touched down on runway 25 of KIA for the first time. Aircraft operating was PK-WHM and vacated via high speed exit A3. Was hoping to get a decent shot of it vacating but AK's farting APU exhaust had to spoil it.

And here she is. the first Indonesian ATR my camera has ever captured. From afar without looking closely, you would think that this was one of Malindo's ATR.

Engine 1 is already offline at this point.

And spray! Me being my forgetful self forgot to use my earplugs. So the fire engine sirens and the ATR's engines sounded like a pop concert extra amplified.

Engine 2 took a while to be turned off as the GPU was needed.

Reminds me of an A320's nose, specifically the radome.

Up and about on this side of the parking bay position sign was really exciting.

Next, the welcoming .

One of Lion Group's medium birds. It would've made a perfect shot if it was parked beside Wings Air.

First time getting this angle. I may be an Airbus person but the curves on a 737 are no joke! Imagine how stunning it will be with a fish-eye!

Before we knew it, it was time to go and we were ushered hurriedly back to the shelter and air-conditioning away from the sweltering afternoon sun. Hoping to hitch a ride on this some time this year.

And these guys still owe me money.

Thanks for the great pics; well covered. Noticed that this IW aircraft has Lion Air's logo on its tail. I have seen IW in Indonesia spotting another logo - a pair of wings sans the lion head. Anyway, all part of the Lion family. Now, looking at the departure timing ex KCH, am I right to assume that IW makes a nightstop in KCH given that the second flight of the day pulls in at around 7.30 pm  and leaves at 7.00 am the next morning?

Thank you! Can't wait to share it here too.

Not much of a ceremony but I would rather say, it was a small welcome event and that was it. Followed by a press conference.

i mean at pnk side, no ceremony. the delay was due to unknown reason. from terminal i only see the ground staff running up and down the aircraft for unknown reason

Hoping to spot the other version of the WingsAir livery. And yes, the aircraft makes a nightstop every night. Usually parks at bay 8B.

Yeah bro. In the press conference the Director of Flight Operations did mentioned delay was due to late arrival of aircraft from previous destination. He also apologize repeatedly for the delay and thanked everyone for the willingness to wait.

Righto. IW must have good reasons for doing so considering the additional cost of parking, crew accommodation etc. I expect the commercial load factor for the 7 am flight must be good.  I recalled years before when BI used to nightstop their A319 in KCH for an early morning departure to BWN.

Load was pretty bad...except during the holidays. KCH to BWN didn't work with BI 319 nor it it worked with MH ATR 72...I wonder if AK dare try with their 320?

This CNY season, any news of equipment upgrade to 330 or 350? We used to have Chinese charters at this time operated by CZ or MU.

9M-MAC went to BKk this morning while MAD took over MH4 service. There should be upgrades if bookings are heavy as A380 flights also free up A330s.

Sorry to inform you that there isn't any equipment upgrade for CNY this time around. Only extra flights mounted by AK with flight number AK9222/9223 operated by KUL hub crew. MAB favor BKI more than KCH for equipment upgrade to A333. In 2017 there's equipment upgrade to A333 once a while.
