Malaysia Airlines sponsor QPR home Jersey while AirAsia sponsor QPR away jersey.

AirAsia

Don’t be surprised if you see AirAsia logo on QPR jerseys cos it is official that we are the proud partner of Queens Park Rangers Football Club (QPR)! The announcement was made just moments ago at QPR’s Loftus Road Stadium, with the sponsorship stretching for the next two seasons! We’re equally as excited as being part of the most-watched sport in the world, and QPR signifies the unrelenting AirAsia AllStars spirit

Any sane person would oppose this deal! I don't see one ounce of benefit that could come out of this, other than to replenish the pockets of a chosen few. I have a sneaking feeling that AirAsia paid less for their two shirts compared to MH's one.

And again, management chooses to keep the 20000 workers in the dark. If I was MASEU's leader, I'd call a strike action right now!

Point the fingers at the Reds and their head honcho who also owns the bloody club. Not even a hint of subtlety!

When the AK-MH 'collaboration' was announced, the red party was depicted as white knight in shiny armour galantly bouncing along on a white horse coming to rescue of our flailing national carrier (MAS lah)

Recent events have suggested it was more like a trojan horse wheeled in to percipitate rot from the inside out :(

Anyone want to start taking bets that MH, as we know now, will not last beyond our next Hari Malaysia and that AK/D7 will have been designated official flag carrier with T/S TF (possibly Tun by then) lording over all and sundry ? :p

New QPR livery on AK's plane soon? :pardon:

I think so and maybe on MH's plane too. One more thing, I bet AK's steward/stewardess will wear QPR jersey while duty too maybe on Friday AirAsia FABULOUS FLY-DAY or on every QPR's match day just to promote and alert passengers today have QPR game...

i heard rumor about MASEU will start picket on this coming thursday....

It seemed that MAS new management, the so called the "EXCO" are not listening to MAS employees. They think they are doing the right thing at MAS employees expense. The employees believe that Tony is dictating terms and Tan Sri Md Noor and Danny are just seat warmers. Can MAS new CEO which will be announced this week who has no knowledge about airline business compete with Tony?

Two season deal on a club whose declared ambition this year is to remain in the top flight EPL for next year

Currently a point above the relegation zone, with not too impressive goal difference vs those below

The season is in its infancy, but perhaps T/S TF can work some of his manegerial wonders ala Air Asia upon QPR ?

No, bringing Beckham in would not do the trick football wise, IM(very)HO - but then what do I know about soccer ? :)

Would make a heck of a PR impact though, you can be assured :)

Now, how much is that sponsorship deal going to cost MH ?

The BPL gives big exposure to sponsors. MAS/AirAsia are getting all this exposure at a cut price... Tony Fernandes is weaving his marketing magic again here. AirAsia has already benefitted a great deal from their sports sponsorships.

Whether it is a good move for MAS or not, only time will tell. Marketing campaigns are one thing, delivering a product to back up the campaign is another.

getting exposure is good and all, but isnt it better to better the ailing airline first?

no news about jobs cutback, nor fleet renewal, not plane rewfurbishment or any of that sorts.

what do we get?

a logo deal. in a club that is not really performing.

own by the guy who "share-swapped"

even the fishes are smelling something fishy.

I am sure Tony's dream is for MAS to be dismantled slowly and for his beloved AK to take over for good. Now he is using MH's money to sponsor HIS club - which is a stupid one which will not last 1 season in the EPL (ala Proton's Norwich)

MAS, AirAsia in QPR jersey sponsorship deal

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and AirAsia will jointly sponsor the jerseys of Queens Park Rangers Football Club (QPR) for the Barclay Premier Leaque (BPL) for the seasons 2011/2012 and 2012/2013.

MAS will sponsor the jerseys of the club’s players during its home matches

in the BLP, while AirAsia's sponsorship would be for QPR’s away match and

"third" jerseys for the similar two seasons of the BPL.

"MAS is elated to be associated with QPR's ascendancy to the Premier

League," MAS' executive director, Mohammed Rashdan Yusof said.

QPR, which is 66 per cent owned by AirAsia chief, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes,

will wear the new home game jersey, adorned with the MAS logo, for the first

time in tonight’s showdown against Newcastle United at Loftus Road Stadium.

The sponsorship is considered the first in the history of professional

football globally where two airlines from the same country have teamed up to

sponsor a football team, it was stated in a statement released today.

"Our sponsorship of the home jersey of QPR, together with AirAsia's

sponsorship of the away jersey, is a first for the Premier League. It also

celebrates MAS' recent collaboration framework with Air Asia," Mohammed Rashdan said.

He said the sponsorship -- MAS' major initiative in a new brand marketing

stategy -- will enable the flag carrier to reinforce its global full-service

presence and premium franchise via football fans and lovers from all over

Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific, Australia.

AirAsia in a filing to Bursa Malaysia also said that association with the

sports of football will further elevate its brand given that football was the

top global spectator sport and with BPL having a large following in Asia.

QPR chief executive officer, Philip Beard said: "Attracting two major Asian

companies to come on board shows the global appeal QPR has as a brand."

He said QPR was extremely positive about building a thriving relationship

with both airlines to broaden its exposure in Southeast Asia and further.

"This is a remarkable deal for the club and brings further positive news

following a highly successful few weeks since the takeover." This is not the first time MAS is delighting the fans of BPL in Asia.

It was the official air charterer of Manchester United’s Asian Tour in 2005

and 2007. Likewise it was the official air charterer for Chelsea’s Asian Tour in

2008 and this year. Another BPL team, Arsenal, also travelled on Malaysia

Airlines charter flights for its Asian tour this year. -- Bernama
