Delayed/Canceled (IRROP) MH Flights

Recommended Posts

Since we don't have a thread for delayed/canceled MH flights, I figure I'd start a new thread.

I just received notification that 3 KUL-BKK flights are canceled today (06JUL). MH 780/784/788 along with its return MH 781/785/789 is canceled.

MH 782/783 will be subbed with a 380 and MH 774/775 will be subbed with A333 (no idea why the scheduled flights are just an hour apart)

Edit: Looking at MH's 7-day history, MH 774 has 4 cancelations, MH782/784 has 1 cancelation each, MH780 has been subbed with A333 twice and A388 once, MH788 has been subbed with A388 once.

What's going on with MH's BKK flights?!

Todays MH613 to Singapore will be a380 as well. Severe Crew shortage+ crew bursting their hours on the 738 is affecting their Network they have to call in the widebodies but even calling them up is pretty tight as the Airbus fleet is also facing some amount of crew shortage.

Qantas itself having the same issue that they're deploying 747s on domestic. Result of adding too many frequency on their network.

Good for aviation lovers to experience the upgraded equiptment but a nightmare for those with fix appointment or worse connecting flights.

Looks like MAB's B738 fleet crewing issues have become very acute. Despite returning 5 aircraft to the lessors, they are still unable to completely crew the remaining aircraft. This might continue, even after the Max aircraft arrives! It would appear that the airline will continue to make losses for the foreseeable future.

They recently open up cadetship and took many type rated crew. Problem there's only one 737ng sim shared with their current crew that needs to do annual base check. Management seems not interested in adding a second sim or even sending the new instakes off to neighboring countries sim centre to clear the backlog but heard negotiating sim slots on those countries are also limited and very pricey. My tomorrow morning flight from ICN to KUL has been upgraded to A380 from the usual A333 as well. Not to complain as this is my first time on MAB A380. Initially, I thought the upgrade was due to increasing demand, but only to realise later during checking in that, most economy seats on the main deck are empty.

Maybe the sight of 5 A380s sunbathing in KLIA is sending shivers down the spines of senior management too.

The new transport minister has not taken a look at MAG and MAB yet... Now that Nufam is making noises, he may be alerted!

Sunday's (08JUL) BKK flights will be fun.

MH 788/789 will be operated by 333, 780/781 will be 380, and 782/783 will be 332.

I still feel they cut out the 777s too quickly and cut down their routes too aggressively. Now they have nothing to feed their asian services with. China has a million airlines that flies to secondary airports. No need to use MH. Their strategy was flawed from the outset. Very sad but may be time for them to wind down

It must have been very costly for MAB and revenue losing to deploy its A380s to BKK, SIN and to ICN. My sousin just returned from SYD ast wed on the A380 and it was only 40% load only with many pax having 2 seats to themselves and she was not sure if the upper deck EY is closed off. It would be better if MAB can get rid of the A380s even at a loss in value as just keeping these 6 frames around is even costing MAB much heavier costs and losses through its leasing costs.

I don't see why they should sell the A380s in such an hour of need. They don't swap the B738/A333 for A380 just for the heck of it. There's a real need for the A380s to step in, as it certainly sounds like they're short-handed.

Sending the A380s on SIN and BKK runs may not be the most efficient way to use them, but I'm sure you'd agree that it's better than having no aircraft to operate the flights at all. That would be even worse for its bottom line in the long run, as nobody likes an airline that constantly cancels its flights because of aircraft shortage.

If they got rid of the a380. They have to cancel few dozens of flights as no crew available for the 738 and a330s. Everyday we've been hearing 12-21 potential flights will have no crew. Mab Probably would have to charter another fsc to partially ferry the stranded passengers or dig up money refunding them.

Pilots and cabin crews are leaving mab every month not only due to pay dispute but the company has not been doing anything to appreciate the crews effort. Lowest paid in the region and they're all overwork some got angry that their off days robbed some never had leave approved for 2 years because the company did not want to trim flights initially when they know they had crew shortage.

Thats why with the so called new management team and the new CEO, it still end up with crew shortages and low morale issues.

Substituting a A380 for 737s and A330s is not the ideal or cost effective ways as its too costly to operate an A380 to such places and given its higher crew cots and even airport landing fees etc. The "new" MAB should have focuss on its manpower and crewing needs and issues first. And from here we can see that tech/cabin crew for the A380s are avail but not for the A330s. Perhaps MAB should have current cross crew qualifications on at least 2 aircrafts asap ie at least the cabn crew for A380 to be able to operate the A330s too - which in case am sure most of the cabin crew for the A380 would have come up from the A330s too.

Believe the dca does not allow active multi time type rating except for pilot instructors. Cabin crew are now rated for 4 fleet accross though. Most of the flights cancelled are due to lack of first officer's not captains nor cabin crews. They're adding many new pilots but these pilots are stuck due to sim constraint. You can imagine it takes them nearly year to reach line training as apposed to the standard near 6 months because the only 737ng sim is already booked by current crew doing base checks. There's need to send most of the new crew overseas or budget a second simulator. Else current crew will continue to be pressured and more will continue to leave and the new pilots added will also leave as there some who already left mid training because competitors are offering better salary and even offered to pay off their bonds owed to mab. The crew are even more pissed now that management is telling them theyre not taking care of their health adequately because of high MCs when most of them have clocked insane 100+hours. Shocking to hear this internal fiasco, moreover knowing the current CEO is/was a flight crew who has been working with the very company for 40 years.

I am now at KLIA and looking at the flight information screen, there are quite a few cancellation this evening. Maybe due to crew shortage? The morning MH067 from ICN was quite empty at least in the main deck economy section, but some Korean passengers were enjoying it. Most had full row for themselves to enjoy the flight. I think upper deck economy class section was quite full. Not sure about first class or business class cabin.

The 4pm A330-300 flight to BKK had been delayed until now, passengers just boarding. On-time performance was quite bad for MAB recently, even both of my flights to/ from ICN were delayed up to one hour.

Saw a picture shared online of the crew on the A380, they seemed to be in the charter uniform and not in the usual kebaya.

MH1447 LGK operated by A333 today... situation is quite bad..

MTH only done LGK return sectors one whole daylight after returning from PEK today, something is not right with A330 as well perhaps? Previously they claimed not enough widebodies, now can sit on the ground for so long?

They now have four additional A332's in the fleet. So maybe they have a little spare capacity. But A330 crews are still insufficient...

One a330 set crew just did Kul-Kch-kul-lgk-kul yesterday which is unheard of in widebody duty which at max 2sectors only. The crew shortage is real. If you look at 737 and sometimes the a330 monthly roster list you would notice that nobody is on standby because there's nobody available for standby. A normal airlines with 30 aircrafts you would easily see 2-3 crew available for standby each shift that means it can be up to 12 crew available for call up in 24hours for that specific type of fleet. In Mab's case with no standby crew available they would call up people who are having offdays or do some magic roster adjustment adding more frequency to current crew duty, swapping some of the crew out to another setcrew flight. That's why 737 crew are also prone to bursting the legal weekly hour limit when that happens the airline cancels the flight as the crew have to be grounded and they can only hope widebodies are able to come in.

All your guys postings seem to suggest MH is in worse shape than we believe it to be prior.

Should I be concern about this (delays, sudden aircraft upgrades/downgrades) on my next MH flights?
