Yang Zulhilmi 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2015 Malaysia's Malindo Air eyes Saudi Arabia flights in 2016 Malindo Air (OD, Kuala Lumpur Int'l) is planning to enter the longhaul market with flights to Saudi Arabia which, pending government approval, could launch later next year. "We have got the approval to fly to Jeddah from the Malaysian government and are now working with the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia to get the landing permit," airline CEO Chandran Rama Muthy told Bernama news. The Lion Airlines (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) subsidiary, which currently serves thirty-one destinations across Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Australia, is also planning to expand further into the region with flights to southern China as well as more destinations in Australia planned for next year. Rama Muthy added that to achieve its ambitious growth plans, ten more aircraft will be acquired to compliment its existing fleet of eleven ATR72-600s, eight B737-800s, and six B737-900(ER)s. http://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/42007-malaysias-malindo-air-eyes-saudi-arabia-flights-in-2016 ~is 739ER capable flying non stop from KUL to JED/MED/RUH/DMM? or will JT allocating some A330 to OD? flee 5 Report post Posted November 27, 2015 ~is 739ER capable flying non stop from KUL to JED/MED/RUH/DMM? or will JT allocating some A330 to OD? If it does, it would be very cramped to be in a 440 seat A333! For OD, its configuration should less dense.
Yang Zulhilmi 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2015 If it does, it would be very cramped to be in a 440 seat A333! For OD, its configuration should less dense. Just like what they did with their Boeing 738/9 and A320 orders, they allocate some aircrafts for OD,ID,Thai Lion and install a premium configuration (with exception of Thai Lion) . If I'm not mistaken, JT had ordered 4 A333 which 2 has been delivered. Maybe they can configure the other 2 with a little bit premium configuration for OD. Mohd Firdaus Bolong 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2015 Or they could lease the LI's 744s. These aircrafts were actively used by Lion to do CGK-JED runs. Havent heard the latest status of the 744s though.

Amirul Mazlan 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2015 I have feeling there might be some connection between D7's A330 ntu, which will go to our market's third force. Judging from recent announcement.
Raj 0 Report post Posted November 30, 2015 The B744s have been replaced by the A333s. No they haven't. The 747s still do their weekly JED run, the two A330s are doing kno vv and upg vv daily.
flee 5 Report post Posted November 30, 2015 I believe that they will eventually replace the ageing B744s. With oil prices no longer at USD 200+, there is now less urgency to do so. “We chose the A330 for its ability to operate on a wide range of services with maximum efficiency,” said Rusdi Kirana, Co-Founder of Lion Group. “Replacing the 747, the A330 will significantly reduce operating costs on our Umrah flights. We will also use the aircraft to introduce widebody service on high capacity domestic routes, enabling more people to travel by air within Indonesia than ever before.” See: http://www.airbus.com/newsevents/news-events-single/detail/lion-air-takes-delivery-of-its-first-a330-300/

Tamizi Hj Tamby 1 Report post Posted December 4, 2015 Ex MAB 777? I doubt it; even her parent company Lion Air received brand new A330-300 for routes to Jeddah, replacing the B747-400.
flee 5 Report post Posted December 4, 2015 D7 has 4 Airbus A330-300 aircraft for lease and/or sale - its configuration is perfect for Malindo. Two of them are stored in TLS. Maybe they can start talking?

flee 5 Report post Posted December 4, 2015 Any chance that Lion will let OD take 1 or 2 of their A330 for this purpose? They have just started taking delivery of theirs. Lion ordered only 3 A333s in high density, single class, 440 seat configuration. From the Star article linked in the OP: Chandran said the airline would be using a wide-body aircraft to ply the Jeddah-Kuala Lumpur route but declined to reveal whether it would be using a Boeing or an Airbus aircraft for the route. flee 5 Report post Posted December 7, 2015 Lion was initially interested in buying 5 of the terrible teens (early build) B788s. However, they changed their minds and ordered the A333 instead.
