Airbus to Study Opening Up FAL in Negeri Sembilan

Recommended Posts

I guess Tony is able to pull some strings to appease the higher ups.

And it seems Labu is the site being chosen by the study. TF to revive his old LCC Labu concept, since I'm pretty sure the FAL will be an operating airport?

A320 Buatan Malaysia! Haha!

It would definitely beneficial for Malaysia if the plan materialised. Hoping for good news upon study conclusion....

Not sure about it being an airport - but it will definitely need a runway for test flights!

With the space and facilities available at WMKK, it is silly to invest so much capital in an all new facility just because of state economics.. persons from NS would still be able to work at the facility given its proximity..

And ZSPD is home to COMAC, so major international airports can too be manufacturing hubs.

Guess TF will dish up his Labu mega LCCT plan again when the FAL plan is a go. Imagine everything under one roof, flight ops, MRO, service parts, technical resources, imagine the cost savings AK gonna get.

If Labu LCCT jadi as well, the term 'factory fresh' for those new airbuses to be delivered in future will take on a whole new meaning :)

To generate more income perhaps they can make the test flights as revenue flights as well :p

I believe it is about free land... NS is probably willing to give land FoC whereas MAHB will not.

With current sorry state of ATC service in Malaysia, having FAL in klia will make matter worse. Its 3 runway airport but the way they handle traffics goin in and out, you gotta be wondering what the fcuk are they doing.

Please no excuse like close proximity to SZB.

And dont even mention HKG, they can still learn a lot from CGK.

CAAM must do something. Rather than just name change and increased fees.

Having another airport in Labu which is good for FAL, is too far fetch.

Usually anything that comes out from TF mouth worth nothing especially if its about a new airport just for them to use.

Just another pitch for lower or even fee-free use of KLIA2.

Illogical move. Maybe want to build the world longest taxiway in the world?? FAL still need airport services though such as ATC and taxiway to conduct tests. Western side of KLIA2 is better option if they want to build FAL which should has its own taxiway shared with current runway R33-15. Besides, southern area of KLIA2 can be build up for MRO and support zone. I think as for starter, early production is at low rate and manageable. At that time when production is rising, independent runway for FAL at more western side near to Tanjong Sepat can be build.

ultimate target of TF is escape from the grip of MAHB, to build an airport that they manage on their own, while making as least investment as they could. If NS giving free land and supportive on every proposal arise by TF. if the FAL is a go, then we really going to see Labu mega LCCT, imagine a gigantic tesco like terminal. with no aerobridge.

Yes, it is illogical - but then KLIA 2 is also illogical, it being built on swampy land that is sinking all the time.... Logically, there is also no need for a third runway as existing runways are still under utilised. KLIA2 also ignored the original KLIA airport masterplan. So now, any new development will also not be in accordance to the masterplan. We will have a cancer airport, with units sprouting out wherever MAHB likes them to be!

We all know that TF likes to think aloud and dream - lets see what comes out of this!

We're all so obsessed with Labu International, seemingly at expense of considerations on merits and/or otherwise of the manufacturer's FAL proposal :D

Ab feasibility study on fal in labu is more likely a corporate relationship exercise for tf to earn some brownie points.

I think for Airbus, it is all about increasing their production capacity at the lowest cost. They have a huge backlog of narrow bodied aircraft and if they can produce more, the waiting time for delivery will be shorter. The previous CEO has already said that the current waiting time is unacceptable and should be around 2 years at the most.

If Airbus can get free land for their factory and test facilities, and Malaysia can guarantee a good supply of high quality aerospace engineers and technicians, we should be in a good position to go ahead with it. Of course, Airasia will be very happy to take delivery of their planes locally. Taking delivery of planes from TLS or XFW are highly expensive missions! With a lot of the backlog originating from Asia, having more Asian production facilities will be good for Airbus too - already, its supply chain in Asia includes some Malaysian based manufacturers.

So, lets hope that all this will be done in a professional manner and a commercial decision can be made without political interference.

What about other regional countries like Indonesia? EADS has lengthy presence there with local Indonesian partner building CN235.

How is the facility in China in terms of expandability? Surely if there is a need it is better to expand the existing facility than to built at a new location?

Taking delivery flight may be expensive but is only a step/link of the long supply chain.

Airasia bean counters count every single bean. That is how overall costs are progressively reduced. This year, they have taken delivery of several aircraft assembled at TSN.
