Norman 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 As mentioned in the Penang thread... I'll post my of my try-out in PEN I went back to in-law house in Butterworth on the 7th of June In the afternoon, I called Nizam for PEN's spotting locations... After a few u-turns... I came to this place, The rock where I stepped on it to see above the fence... But for afternoon shoot... the sun on the wrong place so I set my Delta70ER to centre-weighted metering mode.. So here are ALL THE TRAFFIC that I managed to shoot from 1710 till 1815 I was there that day... First this guy arrived bringing in some parcels at 1713... She exited in front of me... MH's 734 really jumped early from 04... I missed this classic roll-out... MH's 734s are seasoned users of PEN... they always vacated the runway early.. Being International Airport status also require foreing visitors.. like CX here Also can vacate in-front of this spotting location.. Sneeze... for you and this location is superb for heavies doing the rotation right infront of you... LeeCH... for you.. I waited for this UPS to push back... but no luck... light failing Then I went to Padang Kota Lama (Old Fort) to meet Nizam & had dinner (Thanks for your time, Niz I'll continue with Friday's morning session later.... Kevin Teh 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 Wow.......... the long pencil YL is in Penang! SQ must be having good passenger load. that evening SQ flight is code shared with MH.... as what i heard from the PA when i was there last sunday
LeeCH 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 Myself doing a SIN-PEN-SIN on 19th June and 2nd July. Never did I know that SQ sends a pencil up north. Could be a last minute shortage of aircrafts, which happens very frequently these days, rather than high passenger loads. Fancy myself up to PEN on a pencil too............or for KUL operations on this coming 13th and 26th. Truly a Malaysian pilot, always gets Malaysian sectors. Good ones Norman....Gambate, Ichiban......like they say in Japan...

Hmmm... shall I change to Dell desktop too that evening SQ flight is code shared with MH.... as what i heard from the PA when i was there last sunday I saw on the display in the terminal... Codeshare with MH it seems.. Myself doing a SIN-PEN-SIN on 19th June and 2nd July. Never did I know that SQ sends a pencil up north. Good ones Norman....Gambate, Ichiban......like they say in Japan... 13th and 26th... hmmm... both weekdays... LeeCH... i dunno Japanese except for haik!... anyway, thanks, bro.. Ok... As mentioned, I've to take family for a day trip to Radzi's homestate, Perlis, for some "Cuti-cuti Malaysia" on Thursday, so I planned for Friday morning Spotting with Nizam... But this what greeted me on the island yesterday (9th June) The photo was taken after about 20min waiting by the roadside The visibility was about 5m only on the bridge... rain was doing horizontal flows, left to right and the windsocks on the bridge confirmed it... Nizam SMSed saying island was heaving some cats & dogs So scoffed up the idea of spotting.. After it all cleared up, but still raining... went to terminal to have breakfast in Coffee Beans and check out the traffics... Too good to miss... so I headed back to the same spot... and here're the Friday's midday traffic to share.. Arriving.... & leaving.... Arriving... and the MadDog leaving in style... and tucking away the fine gears... Nice rotation and I had to pull back to 70mm for this shot otherwise miss the whole body... More later.... Norman 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 Normang.....hang punya' gambaq banya' cun la weh...(your photo is beautiful) i need a PEN spotting trip....soong... Thanks TK.... I have good teachers here... also good lens that 70-300 GEE.... I wonder the rental had exceeded the actual cost ... PEN for spotting... need patience... Also location where you can shoot and park your car closeby is advisable... Shoot a traffic and go rest in cool air-cond of your ride for next traffic.. Luckily... PEN provides that spots.. Now for some sequential shots of chosen targets... First.... the Korean cargo carrier... (btw PEN is great for Cargoes Spotting..) Powerful blow... it was still raining (tho' lightly) for this takeoff.. Lift the nose slowly there, fren.. (chk Engine#2... ) Up..ergh!..Up..ergh! Rear wheels un-stick, Sir... Ok... tuck them in, boy... Next... this beauty 3-holer from Taiwan... EVA Air Cargo.. Line-up on ZeroFour there.... Done.... Now... flex your wings.. Rotate for that guy on the rock with umbrella and D70s on your 2 o'clock... another.. ergh!...Up...ergh!...Up. Move over, Crow!... That guy want to shoot me laaa.... Bye... Cool PEN... thanks for warm hospitality... Thanks for viewing... a bit more later..

Min Chun... First set was Wed 7th June between 5:10pm to 6:15pm and the second set Fri 9th June between 11:30am to 1:20pm Yup ... behind some old factories... near a bend where the Batu Maung mini bus make a u-turn (said hi to some of their drivers...heheh) I parked my car quite close to the fence and MAB cops are quite friendly too... as for passer-bys... they seems immune to camera totting spotters... since they never look at you twice.. But... if you look closely at my Jatayu portside image up there... notice the house in front of the nose... If you know the owner... tell him I would like to rent the room on the top floor... --

Seth K 3 Report post Posted June 10, 2006 I saw 744 rotate from a PETRONAS station BR MD11 from roadside CX 773, AK320 & 737, MH734 from resting area Saw that 727, MH742, SQ772, Xiamen 737 from Golden Lounge. Counting from the plane noise, I say PEN has some good traffic The DHL, FedEx and CI cargo seems to depart at the same time At least two airlineS land in one time, then resting point till the next 10 minutes vv And Norman, ur pixs are very impressive not too mention the quality
