Aircraft-Home ?

Recommended Posts

Read this on The Star online Metro North's section. Does it sounds like another publicity stunt ?

Aircraft-home, anyone?

BY CHRISTINA KOH

KAMPAR: Perak is considering a developer’s proposal to build a multimillion- ringgit bungalow project in Tronoh where house buyers will get a light aircraft to go with their home.

If approved, it would be the first housing project of its kind in the country.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali said the developer had during a briefing in Ipoh on Friday explained that the 132-bungalow housing area would come with a 1.5km airstrip.

“Each bungalow will have a hangar to park the aircraft and pilots will be provided for those who cannot fly their planes.

“We will study the proposal thoroughly. We have to be objective about this,” he told reporters after attending the Tunku Abdul Rahman College convocation ceremony here yesterday.

Tajol Rosli said the project came with another proposition to set up a Carnegie Mellon University campus.

He said the university project would only proceed if the ‘aircraft home’ concept was approved, as the two projects would complement each other on a 200ha site belonging to Perak State Secretary Inc.

“The university, which is well known in the United States for its information technology, would be too expensive to set up here on its own,” he said, adding that five people had so far made their bookings.

According to plans, house buyers would get a two, four or six-seater aircraft depending on the size of the bungalow priced between RM800,000 and RM2.5mil.

With the aircraft, the house buyer could fly to any of the over 100 airstrips in Malaysia, including Subang in 25min, Penang in 20min, Medan in 45min, and even land in Gerik or Pangkor Island.

Tajol Rosli said the ‘aircraft-home’ project, if approved, would be one of the state government’s efforts to bring development to Perak.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, who was also present, said the ‘aircraft-home’ project was a good idea.

“If approved, it could attract investments to Malaysia and bring in people to invest in property and generate other forms of economic growth.

“This includes the service industry and technical support for the aircraft,” he said.

Not sure anyone wants to buy a property there - the scalding heat of the desert 'tin mining' sand is like no other place. The second Malaysian MSC - Taman Teknologi Seri Iskandar - was also planned and actually launched in Tronoh - all we see now is only the 'pintu gerbang' of that MSC there, after some eight years since the announcement. If it wasn't for UTP Tronoh would be an even ghostlier little town.

On another note, I'm an ex-UTP student, and I've been hearing stories that our campus in Tronoh will soon have an airfield of its own. Story remains unverified though, but this is after all a PETRONAS entity we're talking about.

I can't imagine the "rush hour" traffics in the morning and evening

Sure headache to the ATCs...

132 GA a/crafts departing at 0730hrs coming back at 1800hrs

and some smaller aicrafts, piloted by mums sending kids to some

public schools that have their own airfields as well..

But... it's still possible....

Of course, it's possible, but not probable at all.

There are a few of these township-airstrip communities in the US, say, in Florida, where private aircraft ownership is probably the highest of any country in the world. e.g. John Travolta lives in one and parks in GIII & B707 in front of the house.

As for having one in Perak, i think it has as much chance as having an emergency landing strip in Tronoh for the space shuttle, like the ones they have in Spain and Australia. How many people really own aircraft in M'sia?

Put simply, the MB needs to say something to be in the media limelight, even if credibility is questionable. I can probably get him to pay a down-payment for an aircraft carrier which I'm selling.

Well, if the plan "really materialise", <_>

then we'll have 132 new aircrafts ...

The report stated that :

" According to plans, house buyers would get a two, four or six-seater aircraft depending on the size of the bungalow priced between RM800,000 and RM2.5mil. "

So if you buy the 800k one, most probably you'd get a 3rd hand Cessna 152 or a brand new Zodiac (circa 130-160k). On the other end, a 2.5M property would come with a 5th hand Cessna206??? hmmm..

Then you'll be slapped with monthly maintenance for ... err...

i dunno... aircraft maintenace, airstrip usage, etc etc... B)

The MB probably got the idea from watching a documentary on Discovery Living channel. It was about Jumbolair Aviation community estates, where its most well-known celeb is John Travolta. Here are the pics:

Spot on, brother!! Just look at what happened to the '2nd MSC' (Taman teknologi Seri Iskandar, also in Tronoh). Makes you wonder doesn't it?
