Playback in FR shows that the MAX climbed up to over 5000feet then dropped. Playback stops when MAX reached altitude 3650feet upon entering Java Sea. JT610.

ADSB-B data shows that the altitude was erratic the last 3 minutes with the aircraft falling/climbing/falling until the last transmission Also the speed accelerated until last transmission.

You are right Robert. Erratic upon reaching over 5000feet.

Pardon my ignorance, but if all that is seen is debris - where is the plane? Sunken? Exploded?

It's always like that when an aircraft hits the water. Parts that are buoyant remain on the surface. Heavy parts sink. Oil slicks (jet fuel) also float.
