Elderly flight passenger throws coins into engine for ‘luck’, delays take-off for hours

Recommended Posts

A flight from Shanghai to Guangzhou was delayed after an elderly woman passenger was suspected of throwing coins into the plane’s engine to ensure “good luck”, mainland media reported.

China Southern Airlines Flight 380 was held up at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport after an elderly woman passenger caused a disruption, according to the airlines official WeChat account. An investigation into the incident is under way.

Passengers boarding the flight reportedly saw an elderly woman throwing coins at the engine for “blessings” from the middle of the boarding staircase and alerted the crew.

Difficult to control mainlanders. Back months ago there were incidents in RAS airports in Mulu and Pulau Layang-Layang when these mainland tourist actually went to the port side of an MASWings ATR72 and grabbed the propeller and tried to spin it for some selfies photos. Since then security on ramp at secondary smaller airports has been beefed.

Were they trying to make Final Destination Sabah/ Sarawak edition? A lot of mainlanders need to catch up on civic and moral clases..tune to 21st century.

Sounds analogous to the incident where a mainlander kicked a cherry blossom tree violently so the leaves would fall giving that 'authentic' spring leaves fall, perfect for photo op.

Before the increase of mainland tourist recently there was no such incident cuz most of rural pax are locals and caucasian. I even boarded the twin otter and viking flights to kudat. Everyone was happily behaving on the tarmac apron waiting during the transit. Now these folks come in everything has to be adjusted for them lol. Edited by jahur

You will probably experience more adjustment through the bloody terrorists than mainlanders. It used to be that we can bring in bottle water and now... you can't even bring laptop onboard for some destinations. How about that?

Terrorism is a different thing surely they wont follow. These are tourist, they are expected to respect and acclimate when entering abroad. There are actually a lot of them that actually behave and even warn the misbehaving one but most of the time they're ignored. Edited by jahur

With over a billion of them, a few dead ones will not make a difference.

Ever see those videos from the mainland where a vehicle hit a pedestrian:1. Nobody cares 2. The vehicle will reverse and hit the victim again to make sure the victim is dead rather than just injured?
