Yes, these plans were revealed in their IPO prospectus.

Thai AAX is also being established at the moment - it will come online towards the end of the year or early 2014. It is now going through regulatory approvals.

I bet these ideas came out during their meetings to look for contingency plans for the delay of KLIA2. Need places for all the D7 planes coming in

I think it is a bit of both. I think D7 would be foolish not to replicate the formula it has with AK with other AirAsia Group affiliates. The klia2 delays merely accelerate these plans as D7 cannot do much more with three parking bays at LCCT.

Indonesia AirAsia eXtra secures it's Air Service License. Will launch a long-haul LCC hub in Bali to strengthen our group's network.

The Board of Directors of AirAsia X (“the Board”) wishes to announce that following the approval of the Air Service Licence (“ASL”) by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Ministry Transportation of Republic of Indonesia (“DGCA”), the Company had on 23 January 2014 entered into a Joint Venture Agreement (“JVA” or “Transaction”) with PT Kirana Anugerah Perkasa ("PTKAP"), the shareholder of IAAX (individually referred to as “Party” and collectively referred to as “the Parties”) to govern the relationship between the Parties.
It now looks like Thai and Indonesia X's will take off almost together!

I hope there will be a hub in CGK after DPS. There's a MASSIVE untapped market there.

Possibility but rumour has it that CGK will be a challenge with the approvals and the space for expansion. Who knows, let's hope for the best! :clapping:

Attack low hanging fruit at DPS first. Aussies would love SYD-DPS, MEL-DPS, ADL-DPS and OOL-DPS in addition to the PER-DPS that is now very popular.

I think Indonesia are re-opening the old airport - so there may be opportunities to serve Jakarta in future.

Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said the city administration would immediately widen all the roads leading to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta and prepare other facilities to support the government’s reopening of the airport for several domestic flights.

AirAsia cements leading position in Indonesia international market with new AirAsia X Bali base

Malaysia-based long-haul low-cost airline group AirAsia X is moving forward with plans to establish its second affiliate in Indonesia with a base from the resort island of Bali. The group recently signed an agreement with a local partner to establish Indonesia AirAsia X (IAAX) and has already secured an air service licence from Indonesian authorities.

IAAX will likely launch services by the end 2014, sourcing 377-seat A330-300s from the group’s recently expanded order book. The new carrier plans to serve destinations in Australia and North Asia, connecting dots which are already served by AirAsia X from Kuala Lumpur and soon by Thai AirAsia X from Bangkok.
Indonesia’s LCC sector is fiercely competitive, with a fleet of nearly 200 aircraft which is slated to expand by another 20% in 2014. But IAAX will be Indonesia’s first long-haul low-cost carrier, giving it important first mover advantage in several relatively underserved markets.

Indonesian regulators approve AirAsia X joint venture

Indonesian authorities have approved an AirAsia X joint venture (JV)—Indonesia AirAsia Extra—although its first routes and launch date have not yet been announced.

The new carrier has been awarded an air operator’s certificate (AOC) by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, following the approval of an air service license in January. Gaining an AOC clears the way for the startup to apply for the operating permits and slots it needs for initial routes. This process involves civil aviation authorities outside Indonesia.

Haha you did beat me to it!

I think D7 needs to get rid of the X on the tail and just make it the same as the A320's to give consistency - probably at the door have the AirAsia X logo. I don't really get the slogan on the other side, this needs to be scaled down for both narrow body and wide body with just "airasia". They also decided to go for "airasia.com" for D7 liveries - I mean in this day and age who doesn't know that? They don't need to remind people about the ".com"!

I would of seriously love to see a non-red AirAsia plane flying around, if only Vina AirAsia was approved we would of had blue ones flying around Asia, now that would be a sight! Blue AirAsia planes amongst their red sisters. And Vina AirAsia FA's wearing blue uniforms walking around in KUL amongst their red counterparts.

Turnaround at MEL on days 357 is 15 mins ?

I believe the schedule still needs to be updated, I thought they might change planes with sister D7, but thats highly unlikely as that would also mean a similar turnaround time too and probably not politically allowed.

Indonesia AirAsia Extra will enter the competitive Australia-South East Asia market with Bali-Melbourne as the low-cost carrier’s inaugural route.

Indonesia AirAsia X faces regulatory hurdles & delays but is finally cleared to launch Melbourne

Long-haul low-cost start-up Indonesia AirAsia X (IAAX) has adjusted its fleet expansion plan for 2015 and 2016 in response to unexpected regulatory challenges. IAAX has finally secured approvals to serve Australia, which it now plans to launch on 18-Mar-2015, but is still seeking to secure approvals from Japan and South Korea while new regulations in Indonesia also pose a potential roadblock.
IAAX initially planned to commence operations in Dec-2014 on the Bali-Melbourne route. An unexpected last second setback from the Australian regulator forced IAAX to postpone the Melbourne launch by three months.
IAAX ended up shifting gears and commenced operations in Jan-2015 with services to Taiwan, which has a more favourable regulatory environment. But the carrier has since been operating only one weekly flight to Taipei, resulting in an extremely low utilisation rate for its initial fleet of two 377-seat A330-300s. IAAX is now planning to add only one aircraft 2015 and one more aircraft in 2016 although this could change if the regulatory environment becomes more favourable.
Indonesia AirAsia X becomes the ninth AirAsia branded airline
IAAX launched services at the end of Jan-2015 with one weekly flight on the Bali-Taipei route. IAAX, which is also known as Indonesia AirAsia Extra, plans to increase service to Taipei to four weekly flights at the end of Mar-2015. (Indonesia AirAsia Extra is IAAX’s legal name but its brand simply uses the letter X, matching its sister carriers in Malaysia and Thailand.)
IAAX was initially established in Jan-2014 as a joint venture between between Malaysia-listed AirAsia X and Indonesian company PT Kirana Anugerah Perkasa (PTKAP). PTKAP owns a majority 51% stake in the start-up. PTKAP is related to Fersindo Nusaperkasa, which owns a 51% stake in short-haul low-cost carrier Indonesia AirAsia (IAA).
IAAX became the 22ndLCC in Southeast Asia and sixth LCC with widebody aircraft, joining AirAsia X, Cebu Pacific, Lion Air, Scoot and Thai AirAsia X (TAAX). NokScoot, which is planning to launch in May-2015, will be the seventh LCC in Southeast Asia with widebody aircraft. There are only four other LCCs in the world with medium/long-haul operations – Brazil’s Azul, Australia-based Jetstar, Norwegian and Korean Air subsidiary Jin Air.
