Air Asia X seeks fresh capital to fund expansion

Recommended Posts

"The UAE has a very liberal air services regime, and other carriers are already flying on from there. It will not be a problem for us."

If they are still on speaking terms with MH people, perhaps it's wise to consult 'the other side' as to what actually happened when MH had achieved some degree of success of their JFK via Dubai service, then abruptly switched to route via Stockholm instead :)

To be fair, it is the media and us who are speculating. We are just laymen who do not know the complexities of getting a route proposed and through the legal, regulatory as well as technical approvals.

I think right now D7 has more or less firmed up its plans on how to deploy the 3 new A333s and also how to change the old A333's seats to better ones. I think their next major expansion of routes will have to wait until 2010 when the next 3 new A333's arrive or when they find more leased A343's.

Very happy to know that D7 has secured a 5th freedom right in AUH, something that even SQ doesn't for the airline's SIN-JED vv and SIN-KWI vv routes, all via AUH. By having a 5th freedom right, D7 can sell tickets from AUH to any other 3rd point destinations thereonwards and reverse, in the future. Surprised EY doesn't launched a protest at all! I suspect ADAC and the government of the Emirates of Abu Dhabi itself are very determined in ensuring that the airport will not lose out to DXB by all means (AUH has always been in the shadow of DXB, petty much like KUL to SIN in my opinion). Looking forward on what this hub status will contribute to D7 in the future. MAHB might have done a grave mistake by delaying the construction of the permanent LCCT in KUL, with regards to this newly inked collaboration with ADAC.

Just imagine...this is the official wear of the AK cabin crew the moment that step off the plane for their night stop at JED....talk about night-and-day.

LOL Mushrif, I suspect if JED is to be served by D7 from AUH, the AUH-JED vv sector will be a turnaround service for the crew, meaning no night stop in Jeddah whatsoever. AUH will be the crew's base, identical to what SQ is currently doing.

Although the Saudi authorities is quite conservative on the print advertisements, they are actually quite lenient to airline staff (at least in this uniform aspect). To begin with, the female crew of the flag carrier, Saudi Arabian Airlines (SV) don't wear abaya from the moment they were dropped off at the curbside area of the airport onwards.

SV's female cabin crew

Their uniform is like EK's although with pants, long sleeve blouse and of darker colour scheme.

Other airlines' crew are also free to navigate through the airport (JED) without having to wear abaya. 'The World's Best' cabin crew team in JED...

... and also GA's cabin crew in JED

DSC07051.jpg

It is interesting to note that GA has a special uniform for all Saudi bound flights (CGK-JED vv, CGK-RUH vv) for the female crew, i.e. a tudung, a long sleeve batik blouse and a pant, as opposed to the short sleeve batik blouse and a skirt for the other routes.

Would be glad if our MW female cabin crew member, Nurasyekin Afifah can highlight on the dresscode for the JED bound crews, including how they dress up during their layovers. I am so sure they have to wear the abaya (maybe not covering the face and minus the handglove) while roaming around the city.

Spain and Scandinavia sounds interesting. I'd rather they go there than seoul or sydney. But thats just me. Hehe.....

Now that MH is leaving the Stockholm(-New York) route it sounds not a bad idea to hop on KUL-ARN ! MH just used the wrong "equipment" and D7 cetainly caters better for the price sensitive market !

Abu Dhabi is the airline's first destination in the Middle East and it is eyeing Jeddah as its next spot to capitalize on travellers heading to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimages, Osman-Rani said.

OMG, D7 is coming to JED!

It will interesting to see the reaction on the ground if the Raiders A340 substitutes an A330 to do the JED route .....Pornography Billboard-size!!!

Well, Mushrif's wishes of seeing the x-rated abaya pasted Raiderettes A343 in JED is just a few steps away from realisation LOL. The confirmation news that D7 is officially pursuing JED, along with SYD, ICN and BOM - all of which are currently served by MH from KUL nonstop. The news was in Bahasa Malaysia.

Abu Dhabi mula jadi tumpuan

They are surely lobbying hard to get SYD. The comparison of number of flights between KUL-SYD with SIN-SYD and BKK-SYD is a good measurement of how not forward looking some authorities in this country are.

Yes, our BN govt. only makes decisions to the requirements of the cronies. Since when did they make decisions in the best interest of the whole country? ;)

AirAsia to raise up to RM665m via share sale

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — AirAsia, Southeast Asia’s largest budget carrier by fleet size, is expected to raise up to RM665 million in a new share placement as it seeks to cut its debts.

Demand for full-fare carriers has been hit by the economic downturn, boosting discount airlines. AirAsia said last month proceeds from the share sale would be used to reduce its debt, which has risen sharply following aggressive capacity expansion.

AirAsia will sell 400 million new shares, representing 16.8 per cent of its existing share capital, at RM1.33 to RM1.40 a share, according to the deal term sheet obtained by Reuters, to raise up to RM560 million.

But the sale also has an upside of 75 million shares on top of the 400 million shares offered, the term sheet said, meaning AirAsia could potentially raise a total of RM665 million.

CIMB and Credit Suisse are joint placement agents for the exercise and bookbuilding will be completed on Sept. 15.

AirAsia stock closed down 0.7 per cent today at RM1.41. Stock exchange regulator Bursa Malaysia said AirAsia shares would be suspended tomorrow pending an announcement.

Regional budget carriers such as AirAsia and Jetstar Asia Airways have either added capacity or increased flight frequencies to cope with higher demand.

Analysts in Malaysia said last month that AirAsia’s tight cash flow and high debt level was worrying given its commitment to fund aircraft deliveries. It last month deferred the delivery of eight Airbus A320 aircraft to 2014 from 2010, which analysts said signals potential overcapacity in the future.

No Plans To Sell Air Asia X stake - CEO

October 12, 2009

AirAsia's long-haul, low-cost unit has no plans to sell an equity stake in the carrier, Air Asia X head Azran Osman-Rani said on Monday.

The budget carrier's head had said in August that it was in talks with Middle Eastern investors to help boost its equity base in 2010.

"We don't have any plans to sell a stake and we're not actively looking for investors. We don't need cash at the moment," Osman-Rani told reporters on the sidelines of a conference.

Bahrain-based Manara Consortium took a 10-percent stake in Air Asia X last year.

The carrier was launched in 2007 and flies to destinations in China, Australia and the United Kingdom from its Kuala Lumpur base.

Osman-Rani also said the airline would not "be in a loss-making position" in the fourth quarter.
