Cathay Pacific boss Ivan Chu set to be replaced

Recommended Posts

Long overdue....he was one of the reason behind CX's continuous decline.

Wonder if he will remained at CX.

I watched one of his speech and his English was the thick Hong Kong (high tone and low tone fluctuating) accent, sometimes very hard to understand. I fell asleep half way through his speech lol

Ivan Chu will move to a new role within Swire Group, which owns Cathay Pacific. His new role is chairman of John Swire & Sons (China) effective 1st May 2017.

Most mainland Chinese prefer to fly direct these days as mainland airlines are reaching out for more destinations. Either that they will fly Korean Air or Asiana, or even ANA and JAL.

Many of them are becoming more and more uncomfortable of the unnecessary cocky attitudes of Hong Kongers too, so they are staying away.

Many Hong Kongers are flying Chinese airlines too as the fares are sometimes unbeatable. Return fare to US starts from HKD 3600 including tax even though if it means laying over at Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai for a day or so. Return fare offered by China Eastern or Shanghai Airlines to Japan have been pretty unbeatable too compared to CX's fare.

I, for one, prefers not to fly with CX/ KA unless it is business trips. For personal trips, I always opt for airlines other than CX/KA.
