I was watching the Extreme Engineering series showing them building the new VHHH. I think it's just some land they never used when finished building. Maybe for a future terminal perhaps.

 

Anyone know that empty spot is used for?

I think it is reserved for future terminal, you are right! Not sure if there's ever an architect's impression of future terminal outthere.

When doing simulation into VHHH 7R, I notice a very tall red pole at the end of the blast-pad. Is it really there? I think it is dangerous; any plane too low on approach can hit it... Any other examples of airports with such thing hanging around?
