Singapore Airlines Airbus A350-900

Recommended Posts

SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) has cut its order of Airbus 350s from 70 to 63 after a request by the plane manufacturer.

An Airbus spokesman told The Straits Times last night that the seven planes that have been released will be delivered to another airline.

She did not name the other carrier or elaborate on the terms of the deal with SIA, citing commercial confidentiality, but said that such agreements are occasionally struck with customers.

I wonder which airline does Airbus will release the seven slots for?? SOunds like quite a premium airline that Airbus would ask SQ to release the slots.

I supposed SQ receives some form of 'compensation' from Airbus?

I do hope the seven slots are for MH....one can wish and hope~~~

That statement seems contradict to me... A premium airline and MH 😬 Edited by nrazmoor

Hard to imagine SQ would agree to let its slots be sold to MH, a direct competitor in its backyard....

For the right amount of money a competitor can be a friend...

True true...Everyone and everything has a price tag. Just a matter of number.

Perhaps the slots are sold to a lessor...and lease to MH....thousands and one possibility.

We can't get more information from Airbus though since the production isn't in full swing yet.

To believe that, you also need to believe SQ understand MH as a credible competitor still

Could it be for GA as part of 30 A359 in the LOI to prevent them from choosing the 789?

They have been negotiating and GA is close to making a decision. I really doubt SQ would want to release any slots for EK!

I am not sure what to make of this.

EK cancelled 75 orders last year and, so far, only one big order from DL was received. So they should have some 50 slots to play with. Why do they need to ask SQ for another 7 slots?

Is Airbus having trouble ramping up A350 production?

Or it could be a face saving measure - SQ may not need the 7 planes and wanted to cancel it but Airbus would not want to have adverse publicity of another key customer cancelling orders (even as small as 7), and so they spin it to say that SQ was requested to release their slot.

SQ probably decided that some of the order (for expansion) is no longer needed as it may be planning to let Scoot take over some routes. Since Scoot is now a B787 airline, it is doubtful if it will take A350s.

Airbus probably wanted some of their delivery slots to satisfy DL's demand for early delivery slots (something that DL claims Boeing cannot offer) - therefore, they identified SQ as one of those customers who over ordered.

SQ has also been talking about LR versions of the A350. Maybe they will order these for non-stop US flights later on, after Airbus has launched the model.

The Airline has 63 A350-900s on firm order, the first of which is due for delivery in January. Prior to the introduction of Amsterdam services, the aircraft will be operated on select Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur flights on a temporary basis, for crew training purposes.

Singapore Airlines expects to take delivery of 11 A350-900s in the aircraft’s first year of operation. In addition to the 63 firm orders, the Airline has purchase options for 20 additional A350s.
