China Airlines To Buy A350XWB

December 11, 2007

Airbus said on Tuesday it had won another potential customer, China Airlines, for its A350XWB wide-body aircraft, a day after reporting record new orders in 2007.

In a statement, Airbus said Taiwanese carrier China Airlines had signed a letter of intent to acquire 14 A350XWB-900s and had an option on six further aircraft.

The A350-900 is the planned 314 seat version of the A350 that comes in three versions. It has a list price of USD$230 million.

Airbus has so far received 149 firm orders for the A350XWB-900, according to data published on its web site on Monday. In addition it has 127 orders for the A350-800 and 40 orders for the A350-1000.

Rolls-Royce said its Trent XWB engines had been chosen by China Airlines to power the A350s in an order potentially worth around USD$800 million.

"China Airlines intends to start using... the A350XWB from 2015," Airbus said.

A350-900 Reliable In Service, Says China Airlines

TAIPEI, Taiwan—The Airbus A350-900 is performing reliably in service with new operator China Airlines and is well supported by its airframe and engine manufacturers, the Taiwan-based carrier says.

Asked to compare the operability of the A350 and the similarly sized Boeing 777-300ER, China Airlines Chairman Nuan-Hsuan Ho had no complaints about either.
The A350 has an operational advantage over the 777-300ER, the chairman adds. “The customers notice a difference, because the A350’s noise is low,” he says. “The 777 is a little noisier.”

is A350-900 comparable to 777-300ER to begin with?

A350 much quieter with better mood light on what i experience on SQ compared TG B777-300ER, seat comfort on both are about the same. Uncle's account differs though and this is from his long haul YVR to HKG on CX, he prefers the b777-300ER over the A350 as the b777 had more leg room for him to sleep and also first row leg room is so big it is easier for him traverse to the other isle lane to use the toilet the A350 many of the pax had difficulty.

it's subjective question, I can say. it all depends upon operator seat configuration. e.g, i had try Kuwait B777W, it's very spacious with 9 abreast config and so-so with KLM. But for operational cost, A350 has the advantage.
