Honolulu, Harbin among 5 new destinations for Scoot

Recommended Posts

Speaking of Scoot, pics are appearing of their first ex TR livered A320SL in full colours...9V-TRN, doesn't look as good as I'd expected it too.

do not think Scoot is able to make it on the SIN-KUA-SIN route, as Air Asia have tried it for some time and given up and believed Malindo too did that for a short while. Just doesnt have the market for this route.

Expect BKI to be next. Thats how cheap our pax are.

MI BKI passengers are mostly connecting passengers from SIA. Very few Malaysians taking the MI flight between SIN-BKI.

It reflects the reducing disposable income of the people. The rich become richer, the poor remain poor and the middle class becoming the new poor.

My parents went to Singapore recently for return fare of around RM300 on AK, which is so much cheaper than spending RM1,000 on MI for similar trip.

Might as well splurge that extra RM700 on the ground in the city-state. It is just a 2 hour short trip anyway.

So we are looking at MI giving way to TR for SIN - BKI? Possible to connect from a TR flight to SQ?

It's a shame that KCH continues to be unable to support international flights.

Let's hope that TR will be able to make it a success when so many have failed before...

Both AK and OD did KUA-JHB before and not KUA-SIN.

AK tried KUL-KUA-KUL 4 times weekly and it lasted for less than a year. OD on the other hand tried SZB-KUA-SZB for less than a year and also never made it work. FY tried SZB-KUA-SZB twice daily twice with a gap in between and that too did not work. They also had a thrice weekly PEN-KUA-PEN and lasted for a couple of years but recently received the axe recently at their restructuring. Only MH operates thrice daily flights to KUA now from KUL and FY the SIN-KUA-SIN daily. Perhaps not enough promotions on the state's highlights.

Let us hope that TR makes KUA work, although at an initial start of thrice weekly.

KCH just lack attractions that can attract visitors by the masses. Those clowns in charge of the tourism ministry continue to apply the formula: "Have flights = Tourist will come". :lazy:

The only difference between TR and the other two airlines (AK and FY) is that TR can probably make transit via SIN more seamless from its other destinations including those from SQ (as parent company).

Travelers from places like IPH and KUA have limited choices to fly out of KUL to onward destinations. For example, the flights into KUL from KUA are not regular and can be really pricey for such a short trip; unless of course one flies on MH all the way but even that does not guarantee cancellation of the flights. The only available options are to drive or take a bus to KL. The train services will not be ready till another 5 years or so. As such, it is a good choice for KUA folks to fly on TR via SIN to onward destinations on TR, SQ and MI. At least options will be made available for the under served capital city of Pahang. On the IPH front, they have been provided the ETS which connects to KL Sentral and beyond if the passengers want to fly through KUL. The other option available to them now is to fly via SIN on TR or FY besides the high number of Perak-ians who work and reside in Singapore. Just a thought.

In Europe and US, airlines would have deploy regional jet or turboprop for places like IPH and KUA.

IPH & KUA is well connected via the highways. No point flying in, even through RJ.

SIN-KUA is different simply because we're forgetting the Club Med angle - bargain hunting Singaporeans can still enjoy 5-star luxury vacation by the beach at Club Med...

Makes me think we should have less commercial airports (meaning we should only have one major commercial airport serving two or three or four cities cities within say 200km radius). That would create a greater pool of travellers, more economies of scale and can attract more airlines.

Trains these days are more efficient, faster and complemented with highways can connect cities 200km apart in just 1-2 hours from door to door depending on transport mode.

What about the "airport corridor" mooted by individual CMs all the way from Melaka to Kedah? :D

Trying to imagine that if:

KXP is built = PEN and AOR should be closed.

A new airport built at Kelantan/Terengganu border = KBR and TGG should be closed - new ECRL should help for transporting pax to/from both East Coast capitals to that airport.

New airport built in Kimanis = BKI and LBU should be closed - Fed will offer Labuanites the bridge they are so hoping for in exchange for closing the LBU for commercial use, and DBKK might reclaim present KKIA for whatever they want to do with it.

Point is that back to topic, airlines such as TR can even send their big 787s to Malaysia eventhough its only less than 2 hour flight.

It will make this country more competitive and GDP more evenly spread to different regions, and less KV-centric, in a way. :)

Btw, we should encourage more development of general aviation airports, and funded by private entities and closer to cities.

The original offsite airport for bki was in Kuala Penyu and somewhere north of kota belud. However these area are weather generating areas prone to microburst especially right side of waypoint BIMUM and ADMUS. Some of turboprop pilots and GA pilots got happy the relocation plan did not succeed.

Another note you would have to account is crew fatigue. Airlines nowadays are doing really close minimum resting period and they do not account the road trip airline crews take to report to work or returning back home which is very apparent for KLIA based crew. Even standby is risky that most have to report to KLIA in uniform when in places like KCH you would just wait at home for phone calls.

With late night fatigue quite a number of them got into accident driving sleepy in KL, many have shifted to use KLIA transit but that is pricey and still needing car to get back home. Some relocate to nilai and sepang in the middle of nowhere is also an added inconvenience.

You cant satisfy everyone, and everything. If no one wants to give up something we wont have Subang and KLIA because moving airports out of Sungai Besi would cause too much inconveniences for those who bought houses and settled in KL.

Spreading major transport development especially airports out of the city brought a lot of economic benefits. We dont want to be Manila do we? Just because it causes inconveniences to some.

Crew fatigue is real threat. I agree. But something's gotta give. If they dont wanna let the conveniences of having creature comfort by living close to the city/in the city, thats their choice. And the same applies to those living in Nilai/Sepang.

I'm a crew, i lived in Nilai. And i hate spending too much time on the road. Nilai is not that bad, or maybe i'm just cheap.
