2017 Aircraft Deliveries to MAB Group, AirAsia Group & Malindo/Batik Malaysia

Recommended Posts

Unlike 2015 and 2016, 2017 will be a big and busy year for deliveries to Malaysian airlines.

Airasia scheduled for 32 deliveries including 15 new leases:

https://centreforaviation.com/analysis/airasia-group-fleet-analysis-expansion-to-resume-in-2017-with-32-deliveries-including-15-new-leases-321811

Malindo are scheduled for at least 10 aircraft - it should also receive its first A330-300 deliveries this year.

MAB are scheduled to get the exciting A350-900 to replace their dugongs and there is also a possibility that their first B737-8 MAX will be here before the year is out.

So, all in all, a very big year for aircraft deliveries to make plane spotters very happy!

AirAsia Group 2017 outlook: faster expansion across portfolio as Japan & potentially Vietnam launch
19-Jan-2017
The AirAsia Group is accelerating expansion at all five of its existing airlines in 2017 following a decision to acquire 22 more aircraft than originally planned. The group is confident it is now in a position to pursue faster – and strategically important – growth following significant improvements to its bottom line in 2016. However, such expansion could pressure yields and profitability, particularly as 2017 is shaping up to be a year of intensifying competition and increasing fuel prices.
AirAsia’s original operation in Malaysia is accelerating growth in 2017 with at least eight additional aircraft, in a strategic response to intensifying competition. Thai AirAsia is now planning to add six aircraft in 2017, despite challenging market conditions in Thailand. The group’s affiliates in Indonesia and the Philippines, which have shrunk their fleets the last two years as part of restructuring initiatives, are planning to resume growth with two and four additional aircraft respectively.
The group’s youngest affiliate, AirAsia India, is also accelerating expansion in response to policy changes in India, and now plans to add six aircraft in 2017, for a total of 14. The newest affiliate, AirAsia Japan, finally aims to launch services in 1Q2017 and end the year with five aircraft.
AirAsia is also considering launching an affiliate in Vietnam by the end of 2017, although no new JVs have yet been allocated any aircraft from the group’s 400 strong order book.
Subheadings:
  • All AirAsia Group airlines to pursue expansion in 2017
  • Malaysia AirAsia fleet expansion resumes with eight additional aircraft
  • Malaysia AirAsia outlook could become more cloudy in 2H2017
  • Thai AirAsia to add six aircraft in 2017
  • Indonesia AirAsia to resume expansion as IPO is planned
  • Philippines AirAsia also resumes fleet expansion, plans IPO
  • AirAsia India expansion accelerates
  • AirAsia Japan expects to have five A320s by end 2017
  • Vietnam could become AirAsia’s sixth home market
  • AirAsia accelerates expansion despite intensifying competition

AirAsia Targets Fleet Growth With A320neos

The AirAsia LCC group will ramp up its fleet growth this year, with many of its new additions consisting of Airbus A320neos for its Malaysian and Thai operations.
AirAsia expects to receive 32 aircraft in 2017. This includes 11 A320neos and six A320ceos delivered from Airbus, and 15 aircraft from third-party lessors that will go to its affiliate carriers, an airline spokesman told Aviation Daily.
The group began taking delivery of A320neos in September, and now has five of the type. Three aircraft went to the parent Malaysian operation, while two went to Thai AirAsia. Of the 11 Neos being delivered this year, seven are expected to go to the Malaysia-based carrier, and four to the Thai affiliate.
The new additions highlight a return to growth that has been previously signaled by AirAsia group CEO Tony Fernandes. However, the 32 additions for 2017 are significantly more than the growth rate of about 15 aircraft Fernandes forecast six months ago (Aviation Daily, July 12, 2016). The Malaysia-based carrier has kept its fleet size relatively flat over the past few years, and the group has deferred some Airbus deliveries.

Are these 32 deliveries for 2016 or 2017? Isn't all A320ceo factory fresh order delivered already? The numbers do not sync.

These are new orders to be delivered in 2017. In addition, they are taking planes off leasing companies. The original delivery schedule for 2017 was 10 Neos, so 22 are additional.

I think Airbus managed to squeeze one more Neo for delivery, maybe because Qatar cancelled.

Are they still taking A320ceo from Airbus directly?? Seems like the number doesn't add up. It says six A320ceo from Airbus and 15 A320ceos from lessors.

Yes I know the maths. What I am asking is there six factory fresh A320 still on order?

These are new orders.

Airbus are still taking orders for Ceos because demand is still strong for them.

I don't think so, AirAsia has completed their 175 A320ceo order and has mentioned last year all new delivery will be neo version. They have not mentioned change in fleet plan, at least not for official announcement.

Based on Airbus O&D speadsheet, all A320ceos are done for.

When will AirAsia start receiving it's fourth NEO? Probably registration would be 9M-AGC.

The next Neo delivery has been delayed - CFM International are facing some problems ramping up production and are behind in their deliveries of the LEAP-1A engines to Airbus.

To my knowledge there is no A330 coming to OD in the near term. The JED flight will be operated using the B739, with a stopover in Ahmedabad.

Three Airbus A330-343E with RR Trent 700 are allocated to Malindo Airways - MSN 1820, MSN 1828, MSN 1832.

If they do go ahead with this, the deliveries should start about Q4 2017.

Interestingly have just arrived in KL on OD525 and noticed that the February edition of 'MALINDOMAG' lists Brisbane on OD's route network.

I wasn't even aware that BNE had be announced.

Looks like it's operated non-stop too....that's surely got to be pushing the limits of a B739?!

Hi folks,

Anyone know what's happened to Malindo's 9M-LCL? Flew 24-26 Jan BFI-HNL-PNI-KUL as MXD01 and then flew out to BTH late on the 26th as MXD5002 but no movements seen since on FR24. Usually they go into service fairly quickly so I'm a bit suspicious something is afoot with this one. Any info?

Also 9M-LCM is ready for delivery and should go any day now.

Next one is 9M-LCP ln 6282 and should be making first flight any day too.

:)
