MAB A350-900 Regional Flights to PEN, BKK, SIN & BKI from 9 December 2017

Recommended Posts

MH is in shrinking mode. They'll probably axe AMS and CDG, leaving only LHR as the longhaul destination. The next furthest destinations will be JED and AKL, now served by A330.

Some A380 will soldier on to LHR until replaced by A350 sometimes in 2017.

These are the rumors that are making its round, from credible sources.

If AF is not around, there would be more pax for MH.

D7 slots - not so soon. But I suppose Airbus can make some adjustments to slot in two or three deliveries in 2017. However, not all of EK's cancelled order has been sold.

Very interesting situation.

Based on this, it would appear that AMS and CDG is getting one final chance to be profitable for newco and if things don't work out, the routes will be scrapped.

If the A350 is only going to serve LHR, it will be a small order - maybe 4 or 5 frames.

BTW there are only 6 B777 operating for newco.

A E L M P Q

This is more than the 4 that was originally mentioned.

It would appear that those parked outside the hangar do not belong to MAB.

Malaysia Airlines has settled on the Airbus A350 as a cornerstone of its future fleet, signing a lease agreement for four of the advanced jets to begin flying from late 2017.

The A350-900s will be sourced through Air Lease Corporation, in a deal which also sees the Malaysian flag-carrier holding lease options for two more A350-900s as well as two A330-900neo aircraft.

I suppose these will be replacements for the remaining 6 B772ER's to serve AMS/AKL/CDG?

My guess is that they will deploy those on the KUL-AKL route and evaluate whether they should order more later to replace the A333 fleet.

oh MAS will lease 4 A350-900 from Air Lease Corp to be delivered in 2017 and 2018, and includes options for 2 more A359s and 2 A330-900 neo.

dont think SQ traded in the A380s for other aircrafts - as SQ actually ordered think 5 more A380s, to replace its earlier built A380s in the next few years as the first of its A380 is 9 plus years old.

About time they made a commitment for the next generation aircraft! Glad they went with the A350.

This is just a small stop gap order because MH has neglected long term fleet planning in the past. It is also financially prudent to lease the aircraft prior to coming up with a more comprehensive fleet plan later.

MH will now need to think of replacements for its B738s and A333s because any order placed now will need a minimum of 3-4 years to the first delivery.

It is probably better to continue leasing aircraft for their long haul routes as these are more risky than the short haul and regional routes.

Agreed, this is a stop gap measure. They can't place a large order yet as they need to see how they new routes restructuring perform first.

Really sad to see Boeing losing out. Hopefully the 777x comes into play if we ever expand later.

Given A350 delivery slot is many years away, MH lease of A359 is not unexpected. If they intend to serve EU destinations profitably, MH will need to lease more perhaps A358 and 787.

A359 .... It will be an overkill on regional flights.

It won't be a first for MH to 'abuse' their long rangers on regional flights though :)

A359 has a range of 7,500 nm on a 3-class, 300 pax config. It will be an overkill on regional flights.

Wow ok, thanks :clapping:

I suppose AKL, SYD, NRT and possible US West Coast might work for them. :search: .

Press release:

SEPANG, Malaysia & LOS ANGELES, September 10, 2015 – Today Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) and Air Lease Corporation (NYSE: AL) signed long-term lease agreements for four (4) new Airbus A350-900s. The transaction also includes a lease option for two additional A350-900s and two A330-900neo aircraft.

Powered by two Rolls Royce Trent XWB-84 engines, the A350-900 aircraft are from ALC’s order book with Airbus and will be delivered between the fourth quarter of 2017 and the second quarter of 2018.
Malaysia Airlines CEO Christoph Mueller said, “We are excited to have this aircraft as part of our fleet. The A350 is the most technologically advanced aircraft and we are confident that it will deliver exceptional passenger comfort and improve the overall efficiency of our fleet. We are very pleased to partner with Air Lease Corporation on this strategic transaction,”
“ALC is honored to welcome Malaysia Airlines Berhad as our newest valued customer. We are confident that these aircraft will maximize Malaysia Airlines’ operations to help grow its business while simultaneously reducing its operating costs and emissions,” said Steven F. Udvar-Házy, Air Lease Corporation’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “ALC looks forward to building a strong long-term relationship with Malaysia Airlines Berhad in the future,” he added.

Hopefully the 777x comes into play if we ever expand later.

The B777X might be a little redundant, considering that they have just gotten rid of the A380s.

I think that as far as getting the lowest cost of operations as measured in CASK, MH will get low cost A330-900s for regional routes and A350-900s for long haul.

As for short to medium haul, Boeing 738Max and Airbus A321neos should be considered. A mix of the two might be ideal.

Given A350 delivery slot is many years away, MH lease of A359 is not unexpected. If they intend to serve EU destinations profitably, MH will need to lease more perhaps A358 and 787.

A358 most likely will not be manufactured.
