MALAYSIA AIRLINES' TRAVEL FAIR IS BACK TO DELIGHT TRAVELERS

Subang (16 January 2007): The national airline will once again delight travelers, both in Malaysia and in selected ASEAN countries, with irresistible air fares and holiday packages during the one-week long Malaysia Airlines Travel Fair (MATF) from 31st January until 6th February 2007.

During this promotional period, customers can get their hands on a wide array of attractive air fares deals as well as discounted Golden Holiday packages for both domestic and international travel.

The value-for-money deals will be made available through Malaysia Airlines' ticketing offices and appointed travel agents both in Malaysia and in 6 ASEAN countries namely Singapore, Brunei, Thailand Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam.

Bookings and purchases can also be made through the airline's website, www.malaysiaairlines.com or by calling the airline's 24-hour call centre at toll-free number 1 300 88 3000 in Malaysia.

Malaysia Airlines Commercial Director, Dato' Rashid Khan said, "For this year's travel fair, our customers will have the opportunity to enjoy a longer travel period from 24 February to 30 September 2007 except embargo durations. This is in appreciation of our customers who gave overwhelming support to the previous MATF campaigns held since 2004. For MATF 2007, we are expecting more overwhelming response as we are offering 5 million seats under this campaign.”

"The promotional deals offered are in line with our new fare structure launched on Monday, 15 January where the most competitive fares are offered. We urge our customers to take advantage of this opportunity and plan their travels with us well in advance. Further details of these attractive offers will be announced within the next two weeks."

The MATF, an annual air fares and packages promotion campaign, has been organized for three consecutive years since 2004 with the first virtual fair introduced in 2006. Customer response has always been overwhelming, and last year's fair generated sales worth RM 180 million.

Unless they did the sales fares on 'one way' basis which they did in 2005 MAS Travel Fair. Unfortunately they have stopped that in 2006 and back to the usual returns fares with restriction on your flight origin.

There's a suggestion for you on how to fly back cheaply (as long as you u r OK with the hassle).

Grab the AirAsia X $9.99 cheap seats for Aug when they open for booking next month. Once you secured the cheap fares from Airasia X, just hunt for the cheap EU LCC airfares to connect your Airasia X flight. As long as you don't have too much luggage it should be OK, if not will be pretty expensive to pay for the excess luggage.

Just don't get too excited with MH "cheap fares". Tax + surcharge for LHR now stands at a massive RM970 while SYD is RM790. Compare this with EK where they charge only RM79 to DXB while MH is a whopping RM590.

But on EK or any other airlines I have to make a transit... with MH i can fly back to malaysia non-stop....time taken is shorter.. departing at noon so that I have time to hang around FRA longer and arriving in KUL at dawn so that i can continue to JHB on the 1st flight out of KUL. I get 30kg baggage for ethnic ticket. It's just great...if can get a MH cheap ticket is a bonus :) :)

another added bonus is very friendly and attentive FAs. ;)

News release from The Star:

KUALA LUMPUR: The five million tickets Malaysia Airlines is offering at its travel fair in two weeks' time will see discounts of up to 70%.

Air tickets purchased at the Malaysia Airlines Travel Fair (MATF) will also allow a longer travelling time period compared with offers in previous years. Travellers will now have nine months to do so as the offer will be valid from Feb 24 to Sept 30.

Last year, the cheap tickets had to be used within four months.

According to industry sources, MAS is keeping its price list secret until the last minute to prevent competitors from “stealing its thunder”.

“A good indication of what the fares will be like is to look at the International Supersavers that it is offering on its website. You can be assured the MATF fares will match those on the Internet, if not even cheaper,” said a source.

At present, the cheapest fare for a trip to Hong Kong on the MAS website is RM700 while the lowest price offered for a Kuala Lumpur to Shanghai flight is RM850.

The MATF will be held from Jan 31 to Feb 6 and is a 'virtual fair' as tickets can be bought at all travel agents registered with MAS.

Bookings and purchases can also be made through the airline's website, www.malaysiaairlines.com, or by calling the airline's 24-hour call centre at the toll-free number 1 300 88 3000 in Malaysia.

The MATF, which is into its fourth year, is part of MAS' turnaround strategy to increase revenue during the low season.

Malaysia Airlines commercial director Datuk Rashid Khan said the promotion fares would be in line with the national carrier's new fare structure, which was launched on Monday.

“We urge our customers to take advantage of this opportunity and plan their travels with us well in advance,” he said, adding that the deals were not available for certain dates that were super peak travelling periods.

In the 16 fare classes under the new MAS fare structure, travellers who planned their trips early would be assured of cheaper tickets.

For the MATF last year, MAS offered discounts of up to 70% on European routes and 75% for some Asean destinations.

It is also learnt that the national carrier would again impose the same conditions as last year, where it allowed one-way airfare for passengers to make their return journey from another city but made it expensive for those who wanted to change travelling dates.

MAS is expected to reveal the number of seats to be made available for popular destinations for MATF at a press conference on Jan 22.

What about the ones going the US??? :help:

ridiculously higher fuel surcharges .... something mh is famous for... which i still cannot understand. loos at cx, the fuel surcharge is minimal comparing the same sector. anyone care to explain the huge gap in fuel surcharges in airlines?

MAS Travel Fair 2007 webpage + the special video advertisement is here:

'Deals so good, you'll find any excuse to travel' is the slogan for this year travel fair.

Thanks for the link! My parents are looking for flights to Brisbane in March so I'm hoping that MH MATTA fair will live up to their slogan :) ... Looking at last year's promotion the fare on this route (ex-KUL) is RM1300+tax, based on the current fuel surcharge level the total would work out approx RM2100. Hmmm... this is not any cheaper than SQ 2-to-go Sweetdeals (ex-SIN) at S$885 incl taxes (about RM2100 too).....
