MAS aircrew unwritten perks

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

im new to this forum and have been a MAS aircrew not long ago. i was just wondering what are the perks and benefits that we can get lets say ranging from hotel to restaurant. Do MAS aircrew have a special rate if carrying our staff ID? I heard that we do actually have special rate for hotels but i can't seem to find any information on the internet and also the MAS intranet. Anyone here can help me out or have some information regrading this? thank you.

Hi Mansor, there is this thing called interliner/crew rates...

depending on the hotel management and country, some give 50% discount off their published rates, whereby the hotel who houses crew layovers will have a better rate for the airline staff on holidays. This is again subject to the hotels discretion and decision. a valid crew id is normally required by the hotel at check in but it is best to agree on the rate at reservations (if you are on a holiday)

say you are on layover (on duty) certain hotels that houses the crews may accord discounts on your food and beverage consumption - best to check it out at check in.normally a hotel staff will announce it. Some hotels even have special crew facilities, like a lounge, etc.... and if you are the pilot some even get suite upgrades. Whatever it is, best check with the hotel to ascertain discount(s)...

some individual restaurant outlets may also offer unofficial undocumented discounts to crews (to show appreciation-maybe it is a frequent haunt of crews - business promotion as well) your senior crews will normally have the tips and info. Not to mention the discounts for local tours occasionally...

thanks for the prompt reply yeadrian & khaled.

yeah that is what im actually looking for. but is there a written list where i can find all the participating hotels and restaurant for a particular airline? as for me in this case is malaysia airline? Can i make the assumption that mostly all the layover hotels for the aircrew can are giving the interliner/crew rate? As far as i know, aircrew rate is far cheaper than the normal corporate rate that the hotel give out.

for a list of crew discounts, that one you have to look inside MH maybe your staff bulletin, crew department, etc........

aircrew rates are very attractive but prior arrangements/reservations need to be made.......

Spotted these at Berjaya Georgetown Hotel Penang, a four star city hotel. I don't think the floor is exclusively for MAS crew as I got a room at the same floor. Nothing fancy, and location is not that appealing. I'd rather stay at hotels such as City Bayview or Cititel in Penang Road, which is a more 'happening' location and just about within walking distance to everything interesting about Georgetown. In this instance, I got booked at Berjaya due to 'full house' at my favorite hotels.

Other domestic hotels I know that are / (were?) used by MAS crew are Hyatt Kuantan, Kingwood Sibu, Everly Miri, Hyatt Kota Kinabalu....

We are moving out of that place very soon! :yahoo:

Anyway, becareful of the perks. Certain places like JHB sofitel will cost you more than whats written on the menu card after

discount!!! Even worse the food sucks big time.

I thought no more Kuantan nite stop? So Hyatt Kuantan still used by MH?

When I was in KUA for AK's inaugural flight on 1 June, the FID indicated the last flight of the day for MH had a "Nightstop" remark.

BTW, I believe one can narrow down on the list of hotels most likely used by MAS crew by looking at the list of hotels offered by MAS Golden Holidays packages. Maybe not all the hotels, but the few international hotel chains and reputable local ones.

There used to be a lot more crew to stay in PEN earlier; 6 sets of 737 cabin crew per night, the WB crew ex-LHR. I think maybe about 3 floors were exclusive crew floors, we even have a crew room. Then come the cost cutting, now 0nly 3 sets of cabin crew for layover, plus some tech crew. And as Khaled mentioned, our days at Berjaya is numbered. Which is a relief actually.

Back when i was still in miri, the crew used to stay in Dynasty Hotel. I think they now have switched to Everly, formerly Holiday Inn.
