Wifi @ KLIA

Recommended Posts

How do you find the free WiFi service at KLIA ?

I can connect to the access points but the network speed is so slow most web pages won't load.

I wonder what kind of line they are using?

I've been observing this over the past 3-4 weeks at different locations/times on the departure halls and it seems the same everywhere.

Does anybody else find this as well?

There is no point in it being free if it doesn’t work most of the time

KLIA wifi is so slow that it's almost hopeless. If you're anywhere near the Golden lounge at MTB then you can sit outside and use the signal emanating from there. It is much better.

MTB is quite hopeless but at Departure Hall LCC-T, signal is quite strong. No public signal around check-in counter though, only several secured 'Red Fort' access points.

internet service here very deplorably. I can connect the wifi,

MAHB spend $Million to setup the wifi, but the service like 'rubish'

MAHB To Provide Free Wireless Net Access At Airports By End-2007

SEPANG, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will provide free wireless Internet access at all its 39 airports in Malaysia by end-2007, its managing director Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad said.

Speaking to reporters after launching the service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here Tuesday, he said the service would be accessible anywhere in the airport.

"Previously, KLIA only offered wireless Net access through a few hotspots.

"We will start deploying it at low-cost carrier terminal and at international airports in Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Penang by year-end and at domestic airports by end-2007," he said.

MAHB spent about RM25 million to upgrade the backbone network at KLIA.

"Currently, the expanded wireless Net services are available at the satellite building, contact pier, arrival and departure halls," he said.

Bashir said the network upgrade was also timely as KLIA was expected to see a significant increase in traffic next year in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2007.

"For the first six months of this year, the airport recorded a four to five percent increase in traffic, from 11.5 million passengers.

"Last year, it registered a traffic of 23 million passengers," he said.

Bashir said MAHB was able to provide the expanded services via its strategic tie-up with Cisco Systems (M) Sdn Bhd, which not only provided consultancy service but also technology transfer.
