Where is B734 9M-MQP ???

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if MQP is still on lease to MH? The aircraft hasn't been close to Sabah/Sarawak this last 3 weeks, but we have seen plenty of MQQ.

If it is still around does it tend to stick to a particular route? Or perhaps it's sitting in a hangar somewhere?

Thanks!!!

Sure. I have a clever little box of tricks called an SBS-1 which picks up unique transponder codes which identifies each aircraft. If you haven't heard about it before here's a website that explains it all.

http://www.kineticavionics.co.uk/sbs-1.php

AirNav of the US also market a similar product.

Not cheap lah, but fantastic :clapping:

At the moment I can see 9M-MQN over the S China Sea. Here's a copy of what's been picked up by me in Miri since just after 1500 today (sorry if the formatting doesn't come out too good!):

hi steve,

wanna to ask u, how can we buy that thing ha?

can be found aroung kl?

Hi Fuad,

There's no Malaysian distributor unfortunately.

The closest is in Oz

http://www.aircrafttrackingavionics.com.au/

And these guys from the UK will distribute worldwide, but of course the postage just gets too expensive :(

http://www.hamradio.co.uk/kinetic-sbs-1.shtml

Any entrepreneurs out there who know about avionics and fancies becoming an Asian distributor????

Cheers

Steve

MQP is still with MH. I flew it last week.

MQP is equipped with a single HF therefore it is not suitable for the M758 route to BKI. Also it has a smaller galley therefore it is not suitable for meal services. MQP is deployed for destinations within 1 hour block time from KUL. Therefore you can only see it at airports within the peninsular Malaysia.

Steve,

Are u working at SAV?

Hi Zega,

No I'm no longer with BSP/SAV, I am now working in Miri with CHC on their S92s.

Hi Razdi,

Many thanks for the info, that makes a lot of sense. At least now I can stop looking until I get to KL :-)

Hi Naim,

Yes it can read altitudes as well, however some older simpler transponders cannot be read.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Naim,

The device is a simple receiver only working on 1030 MHz. Looking at those links the regulations seem to be there to control transceivers and transmitters rather than receivers. The exception to this obviously "multimedia" devices such a satellite dishes, set top boxes, etc.

If anyone can point to legislation regarding receivers I would interested in reading it :-)

Cheers

In reply to Steve and Fuad, we at Aircraft Tracking Avionics in Australia are the local dealers for Kinetic Avionic equipment such as the SBS-1 Virtual Radar aircraft surveillance receivers, and associated accessories.

We also help with supply in South East Asia due to no Kinetic dealer there, and delivery service from Australia is very quick.

Further technical details can be found on our website at www.aircrafttrackingavionics.com.au .

Boeing and Airbus have been fitting ADS-B equipment to their new aircraft now for some years, many other aircraft are also being equipped with ADS-B, and so the proportion of aircraft (international, domestic, civilian & military) being able to be tracked by the SBS-1 equipment is growing all the time.

Because ADS-B is now mandatory in a number of countries, nearly all international aircraft can be seen on the SBS-1 screen.

See this doc (under the Comm & Multimedia Act 1998) from the regulator SKMM:

http://www.skmm.gov.my/registers/cma/Class...BI-register.pdf

Any item not there requires a license to own/operate. It does not matter if the equipment is only receiving (since a receiver is a subset of a transceiver). For example you need a licence to own/operate a radio scanner, aviation receiver, etc.

SKMM defines an 'apparatus' as:

- any transmitter or receiver or a combination of both including any accessory equipment;

- any other device or equipment which either alone or together with one or more other devices or equipment is capable of interfering with or being subject to interference by electromagnetic radiation; or

- any device which can be used for the purposes of radiocommunications based network facilities, network services or applications services”

Any chance you can connect it up to www.openatc.com?

http://www.malaysianwings.com/forum/index....enatc\.com

Hi Robert,

OK I'm giving it a go, although there's quite a few caveats :sorry:

My internet connection is via the mobile 3G network so does drop off line frequently.

The connection can be slow, so not sure how this will affect things.

I assume it only transmits aircraft that have a ADS-B position, which isn't that many in this part of the world.

As I am effectively on the road I am only using the supplied aerial, so there are distinct blindspots, etc

Let's see what happens!

Cheers

Steve

After trying earlier and being booted off due to an error, I know seem to have gotten it to work - at least for a while

If you click on the green triangle it will show you the data that I see on my PC. The Hex ID is the code that is unique to each aircraft, from which you can get the registration. The best on-line resource for this is probably http://www.airframes.org/ Just copy the Hex ID into the ICAO code box.

Enjoy

Steve

Hi Steve

I saw it working just once and picked up a Silk Air flight.

Which aircraft use ADS-B in these parts or the world?
