Eugene Koh 4 Report post Posted December 19, 2010 Can anyone shed some lights on the following. Drove past Sydney Airport this morning, hang around and saw the following: 1. 3 United Airlines B747-400s. 2. 3 Singapore Airlines B777s (2 772ERs & 1 773ER). 3. 2 China Airlines A330-200s. 4. 3 Emirates Airlines (1 A380 & 2 773ERs). 5. 2 Cathay Pacfic A330-300s. This is a bit unusual. What I saw is one of three United planes were at the terminal, two at the long term parking bay. One SIA at the long term parking bay and two at the terminal. What puzzle me as well is 2 of the SIA B777s took off within 10mins apart. The first take off is B773 and followed by B772. Then not long after, Cathay landed and there are two. However one departed some 30mins later! Also 2 China Airlines at the terminal. As for Emirates, I guess not surpringly. Any clue?
Lock SH 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2010 May be the 'extra' aeroplanes were wet leased by QF to cover its operation as most of the A380 are still grounded. I knew one of CX's A330 were wet leased by QF but not sure about the rest.

However one departed some 30mins later! Also 2 China Airlines at the terminal. As for Emirates, I guess not surpringly. Any clue? Maybe I can try help. 1. 3 United Airlines B747-400s. During December and January, United are operating 3 a day services (December) and 17 I think services a week (January) into Sydney. Extra flight is UA826/827, which arrives early and leaves at about 12pm. The other two flights are as per normal (UA839/840, UA870/863). 2. 3 Singapore Airlines B777s (2 772ERs & 1 773ER). While the SQ A380 isn't at full Aus services yet, SQ operated periodic supplementary services into Sydney and Melbourne to cope with demand. This is SQ262 / 263, which operates on a triangular service (SIN-SYD-MEL-SIN). That would be the other 772 you saw. The 773 is not an ER bird but SQ221/212, which has been operated by the 773 for a while now and I think until just after Christmas before it reverts to the A380. Hence 3 777s. 3. 2 China Airlines A330-200s. China Airlines only operates A330-300's. I would hazard a guess that this would be China Airlines and maybe China Southern? If there were two China Airlines A330's, then I couldnt explain it. Potentially missed curfew from the previous night. 4. 3 Emirates Airlines (1 A380 & 2 773ERs). Unless there was a diversion from Melbourne, would not be able to explain the presence of the 2nd 777. As far as I can find, A6-EDO and A6-ECM went into Sydney on the 19th and there were no other Emirates aircraft recorded during that time. 5. 2 Cathay Pacfic A330-300s. Cathay operate 4x daily services during summer to Sydney. Chances are you saw CX162 heading to Hong Kong and CX101 coming from Hong Kong. Hope this helps. Alex. Eugene Koh 4 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Mr ALex, you are good. May I kindly ask where do you go about sourcing all these informations. Something for me to learn! As for China Airlines, It's definetly not China Southern as the taill fin is not blue in colour.

As for China Airlines, It's definetly not China Southern as the taill fin is not blue in colour. airlineroute.net is a great place to start. The other place is the Sydney airport website, www.sydneyairport.com.au. China Airlines don't operate the A330-200. So if it were China Airlines, it would be a -300. As mentioned, only explanation could be the curfew it missed since Sydney has a very tight curfew with $$ for penalties if you choose to break it. Alex. Eugene Koh 4 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 Sorry my bad, head is thinking one thing and hand type another!!! It's actually Air China..
Alex L 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 Sorry my bad, head is thinking one thing and hand type another!!! It's actually Air China.. In that case that's easy. Air China operate direct to Beijing (early arrival with late departure) and on selected days operate to Shanghai as well, hence 2 Air China birds. Alex. Kee Hooi Yen 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) Drop by SYD this morning for a quick 'spotting' All the major Australian airlines have suspended their flights in & out of SYD since yesterday, due to Chilean volcanic ash cloud. With the absence of QF, JQ, Virgin & Tiger, SYD is really quiet. And, it is interesting to see only foreign airlines in action in Australia's biggest airport without any Australian airlines (except REX). Start with VA (i know it is not the best angle and sorry for the pile of dirt ) Thai A346 (again, sorry for the fence and workers and dirt and plastic barrier and...... ) Managed to get a better angle Runway 25 in operation Then, procced to the control tower area Really really quiet terminal The only arrival, an Asiana B772 (Runway 34L) The only departure from Runway 34L .... CX 100th Aircraft, an A330-300 (B-LAD) I noticed there is a bus depot next to the control tower with its container just next to airport perimeter fence. I believe people can easily climb over the fence into airport compound via the container roof and lastly ... Edited June 22, 2011 by Kee Hooi Yen
