Singapore grounds a second A380

Singapore Airlines has grounded a second Airbus A380 super-jumbo because of a fuel pump problem.

The carrier said the move delayed passengers bound for Sydney on Monday who had to switch to smaller planes.

It added that the A380 in question was now back in service. A similar fuel pump problem grounded another of the airline's A380s back in February.

Singapore Airlines is currently the first and only carrier to enter the A380 into commercial service.

London visit

At present the airline has three of the planes, with another 16 on order.

Last week it flew an A380 into London's Heathrow Airport for the first time.

It first introduced the plane in October, on its Singapore to Sydney route.

Dubai-based Emirates will become the second airline to use the A380 when it takes its first delivery in August.

no comment. but yeah atleast MAS can study how far a380 can go before MAS receive it. im pretty sure we'll get our a380 aware from desaster and it'll improved by then. that's sux to be the first to try new things.

2 out of 3 have had fuel pump problem in as many months of service, that doesn't sound good to Airbus does it? and neither does it sounds good to SQ. <_>

Design fault with the fuel pump i guess... Airbus must come out with a solution before...... more 380 goes to service...

Early adopters always have to take this type of risks. Part of the game.

Many of the A380's problems haven't made big headlines. -SKA earlier this month was stuck in SYD with major hydraulic failure. 36hrs later is was ferried back to Singapore. -SKB was taxiing out on a training flight, returned to the gate 3 times before the crew walked off the plane.

Airbus has gotta fix these problems and fast!

No fuel pumps ? No problem, there is always gravity feeding.

SIA is now being observed like Guinea Pig now.

Latest comment from Skytrax is from a passenger who was on an A380(SIA of course) that suffered mechanical problem in London. He was really pissed off and gave less than 5 stars.Probably the only non 5 star ranking for 3 pages.

True it's a code share thing. The MH and MI bit makes sense, but SQ5636 and SQ5638 ?

Guest Michael

Hello I am just writing from the Golden Lounge here in KLIA, sorry but it is sad that SIA has had to ground another A380, but I am looking more forward to MAS announcing its order soon, that will be exciting. Has anybody seen the new videos on youtube yet about the MH campaign?
