I went up to 777 in 1999.

We use to have Munich then, with a shuttle to Manchester, so the trip was almost 7 days in Munich.

Another Star Alliance founder with A340-200 D-AIBA at Munich.

See the eagle head on the tail? There's a reason for it.

Hicom reported directly to Mahathir and he wanted to call the new airline 'Pacific Eagle'. They did a search and found out the name had been taken up, so a senior guy at Hicom thought up the name 'AirAsia'. The old man grudgingly agreed, so in compromise, they use the eagle as the logo. By the way, the Hicom guy, the original founder of AirAsia, is now living in Singapore.

so Hicom doesnt want to re-start a new airlines? :)

Not everyone knows how to run a profitable airline! ;)

I guess its a case of once bitten, twice shy!

One would be a fool to try to start an airline now. Its probably cheaper to buy a bankrupt airline and downsize it to get better yields - a bit like what the management did at JAL.

Thank you, TK and Jonathan for this rare picture. I do miss these sleek TU-134B which were the main aircraft for SGN-HAN and regional flights during the 80's till 1997. The TU-134s and the IL-18 (far left) in your pic were already "mothballed" by the way maintenance personnel had put supporting jacks under the tail sections.
