MAS PILOT FINED OVER CHILD PORN

Recommended Posts

They are strict for a reason and most of it for border control.

How would you prefer the corrupted Malaysian custom officers that can be tipped off for importing any dangerous goods into the country or charge you with some "tax" that goes into their pocket but looked very relaxed at their job? :D

U might want to reconsider doing that now bro, because they have a reward system now(something like twice the price of the bribe, when he caught the offender), and giving bribe is also corrupted.

Oh by the way, corrupted officers nowdays are a rare species to find. I had a few arguments with them in LGK.

That's for small fish like us...BIG FISH...lain cerita :p

I never bother to bribe them since day 1, I always told them to shovel my goods up their arse if they want me to pay them some good amount of money which will go into their pocket.

I am just comparing Malaysian customs with the Aussies'. It is difficult for one to walk through the green lanes at the customs in Australia and in New Zealand without getting your baggaged checked and scanned. I really think the Aussies and the Kiwi customs are doing far better job than Malaysia. You'd be surprise what people will try to bring into the country. I have once seen an Australian guy in front of me received an instant fine of AUD $500 for food that he failed to declare.

Indeed corrupted officers in KLIA are getting rarer now compared to a few years ago, but in Malaysia I have seen people walking through the Green lanes with their baggages unchecked and unscanned. The officer did not even bother to scan or checked us for a few occasions when I entered the country. As far as professionalism is concerned, the standard is still very appaling and rather loose. They don't even ask you in a declaration form of what you intend to bring into the country. It also seemed that those officers are not doing any work at all but just staring at people passing through them while getting paid for their "hard work".

Oh by the way, my friend who happens to be a "big fish" had the opportunity to witness the corruption at KLIA's custom just recently because in fact he looks rather rich. So I wouldn't say corrupted officers are rare.

Child pornography is defined as involving subjects below 18 according to Australia's Crimes Legislation Amendment (Telecommunications Offences & Other Measures) Act (No 2) 2004 (Cth). Sentencing varies according to age band of the subject:

Sometimes it can involve something a person may consider as harmless such as taking home-videos of your neighbor's kids wearing swimsuit playing at the pool. A guy was investigated and convicted for child porn.

This guy got off very lightly...in the US and UK, child porn viewing comes with jail sentences plus compulsory registration as sex offender. In some US states, the offender must put up a billboard on his house stating he's a convicted pedophile.

I think the standard varies accordingly...at HKG they don't even look at you. However, there are dogs going round at the baggage conveyor belts.

In TPE, custom offices use CCTV to observe you and when you walk funny from the moment you disembark...they will stop you and be subjected to squats/duck walking "exercises" and X-ray body scan. They are more concerned about smuggling drugs through body orifices.

In TYO/NRT, they will ask you to hold up your passport as you pass through the green lane. And if you're holding a non-Japanese one, they'll certainly pay more attention to you or doing body search.

Most of the time I am asked to place my bags through the x-ray machine by customs when I return at KLIA. There was one instance when we arrived around 1 am, there was no one on duty at customs. so we just walk on out. Another time at PEN when I arrived from USM, it was buka puasa time and there was no one on duty.

With regards to inspecting items, a Royal Malaysian Customs contact told me that they have the authority to inspect anything in any form, be it CDs, pendrives, PC harddisk etc.... but not for the joy of it. They are trained in body language, and if a person acts in a suspicious manner, then he / she will will be asked to stand aside to have bags inspected, or in cases where narcotics is suspected, for a 100% check.

Someone suspected of swallowing narcotics in condoms etc will be given laxative, and he / she will have to pick the item himself / herself, while being under watch by Customs officers.

There was once a person who stuffed narcotics in her private parts going through a local airport, and a dog from the K9 unit on standby almost bit her privates!

There may be 'black sheeps' in the organization, but for those many with integrity do their jobs diligently.

By the way, those with information on smuggling activities can tip-off KDRM and rewards will be given, based on the value of items confiscated. It can go to tens of thousands of ringgit, even more. Payment will be done in secrecy and informants' identities will remain confidential.

Thanks Rozhan. I am sure they have such and such training and such and such guideline for carrying out their inspection since yonks ago. But it is something to do with how they reinforcing it. All my personal experience with the custom officers had not been a pleasant one and in fact the main reason why I did not wish to transit in KUL previously. It is likely that I will either need to fork up a large amount of money to satisfy these hungry "crocodiles" (as we chinese said) or be prepared to give up my stuff to the rubbish bins.

It never occur to me that I have ever seen a sniffing dog around KLIA, I have seen plenty in NZ, Australia, Hong Kong and even China however. Sometimes when you see the lanes unmanned, it makes you wonder if these people are really doing their job.

Once again, thanks for the info., but really, if this kind of situation arised again. Who do we make the complaint to? Plus it is unlikely that you be issued a receipt (as it is corruption money), in this case, how can you proof it?

IMHO...

if you've nothing illegal in your laptop or luggages...

there ain't nothing to be afraid of...hence no cause for alarm if & when the authorities wishes to check your items...

unless of course...you've got something to hide...

then..."BE AFRAID!! BE VERY AFRAID!!!"

kekeke

Current rumors is that the offending matters are 3 files received thru email attachments. And the whole thing smells like a setup.

Anyway, some more details here.

There are areas where their presence are clearly seen, and other areas where they are not.

Anyways, if you feel that you are being unfairly taxed, you can always refer to their superiors. Those front liners at airport inspection lanes are usually staff from the lower ranks , and may be too overzealous on their jobs. Ask to speak to their pegawai as he / she may be a bit more accomodating, especially if it involves personal effects.

NONSENSE,

This means that the auth will check all incoming laptops or oth handheld equip for this (XXX)...

before a person leaves the airport?

WOW...something really interesting...but i believe that 90% people would have their PC or any other equip loaded with these stuff...

by the ways how do they scan the pc? when someone could hide those files in other manner in their hd, there are lots of ways to get this files undetected...

Regards.

It's not carrying porn that bothers me...it's carrying Child Porn with titles like “Reped Virgin”, “10-Year Old” and “High School Students.” that annoys me. It's just sick to watch child porn.

Anyway, i believe he is innocent until proven otherwise. :)

That's why use web-based email. Any crap sent stays on their server, not on your property. :)

Actually I am pity over this Ahmad Said. This news is a precautionary wake up call for all.

‘Porn pilot’ ‘under probe

The Star

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

By TEH ENG HOCK

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Airlines (MAS) pilot, who was caught and fined for importing child pornography in Adelaide, has been relieved of flying duties to facilitate an internal enquiry by the national carrier.

In a statement, MAS group human resources senior general manager Effendi Abdul Rahman said: “We are first conducting an internal enquiry into this matter. Based on the findings, any further action taken will be in accordance with the MoU between Malaysia Airlines and the Malaysia Airlines Pilots Association (MAPA).”

The pilot, who was identified by Australian news portals ABC News and the Adelaide Advertiser as Ahmad Said, 25, was arrested by Customs officers at the Adelaide International Airport last Thursday after they found three video files containing child pornography in his laptop.

ABC News said that when the pilot arrived at the airport, he told them he did not have anything to declare. But when Customs officers searched his laptop, they found the child video files. The Adelaide Advertiser reported that the videos were titled “Reped Virgin”, “10-Year Old” and “High School Students.”

His lawyer told the court that Ahmad had been e-mailed the video files and had not shown them to anyone else. “He was simply reckless, this was not material brought in to be disseminated,” lawyer Stephen Barratt had told the Adelaide court.

It is serious gentlemen...

Its a worldwide crackdown.

I may agree with this child porno crackdown. I do support.

8th KUL-ADL.

At the MH office my captain and i was preparing for our flight.

And we got a letter from the "boss"

I read it, understood.

As i arrived adelaide on the 9th morning...tired, long flight with terrible weather enroute...

Bag was checked...through x-ray screening...which was normal to me after 8 years to australia on duty.

They did asked if i have anything to declare...

If we do have...we just say so...and state it in writing on the declaration form.

And...its the first time i Arr into australian port...and i dont see at all of MH staff...

Maybe they know what's going on...and they must have avoiding the "crew" on arrival.

Sad to the Pilot...either MH or SQ or the other airline...they caught 3 Pilots in a week!!!
