MAS pilot fined over child porn

MELBOURNE: A Malaysia Airlines (MAS) co-pilot was convicted and fined yesterday by an Adelaide magistrate's court with bringing child pornography into Australia.

According to the Adelaide Advertiser's website, the 25-year-old was charged with importing the prohibited item via three video files on his personal computer.

Customs officers arrested the man at the Adelaide International Airport on Thursday, after finding the video files containing child pornography.

Magistrate Simon Smart fined the co-pilot A$5,000 (RM14,500) and ordered his laptop seized.

“The material is repugnant and abhorrent ... any decent-minded person would be so affected by it,” Smart was quoted as saying by the website.

The newspaper said the co-pilot's computer was searched after he flew into Adelaide on a MAS flight from Kuala Lumpur. – Bernama

I am no saint but child porn is so sick!

Takde laa... the child porn is not really a 'child' porn.

It must be the three 3gp files that bears a 14 yrs old.

And that file is among those local 3gp files...

btw, this is a lesson for us to be careful when we bring our laptops or/and pda, smartphones, hard disks, into another strict country

who knows when yours will be checked..

Thanks Alan for sharing...now i must cleanse my 3gp files.

p/s who has been to Thai? thats the mother of childp***.they come to you and offer service. Best thing to do, give 10baht n shoosh 'em away.

A twist to the story....

Hi,

I heard of the story first hand and it was teen porn and since it was under the legal age of 18 it was considered as child porn. He was wrong in doing it but I must say that most of our youths indulge themselves in the occasional porn. It was a mistake on his behalf to keep porn but it was just for personal use and not for sale or commercial use. My sympathy goes to him as he goes through this difficult time.

Dear anonymous 11:47

Do you know that as fact or are you speculating base on the article? I spoke to the operating crew on that flight and it was definitely not kiddy porn. Even the government didn't see it as a major crime as he was slapped with a fine and is being released for duty the next day. MAS wasn't the only airline that had their crew remanded, as they also caught pilots of other major airlines too on that day.

My experience traveling in and out of Australia, they do check people randomly or whenever they were alereted or tipped of. I've heard stories on how a student got caught with a pirated sotware CD inside the laptop CD tray.

I've heard an instance when someone was travelling to Europe (don't remember where exactly), the authorities checked the laptop and found pirated stuff..

They formatted the laptop and the dude was left with an unusable computer :D

I'm really curious too, how they or where from get rights to check personal computer?

ofcourse childporn is not acceptable and it is a crime whole of the world. Also if someone interest with chlidporn , exactly he has got serious character and psychological problems!

in other hands, security officiers how they get the rights to check any personal laptops? how do I know they have get right from?how do I sure they do harm my personal datas or not? think like that, maybe you are carrying very important company secrets or very important files!

according me, the most important point is, laptop is a personal privacy. They must be find another way to check out that laptops or etc! Electronic pursue via internet to childporn websites users, seems the best and usefull way.

I'm sure, if this news is true, probably they did that check by a complaint or inform.

They are strict for a reason and most of it for border control.

How would you prefer the corrupted Malaysian custom officers that can be tipped off for importing any dangerous goods into the country or charge you with some "tax" that goes into their pocket but looked very relaxed at their job? :D

The age of consent is 16 years old in Australia. However, the minimum age for legal participation and viewing of pornography is 18.
