Theme park for KLIA

By SIM LEOI LEOISEPANG:

Passengers alighting at the KL International Airport can look forward to enjoying rides in a theme park, in a plan put forward by Malaysia Airports Berhad. Its managing director Datuk Seri Bashir Ahmad said the firm had put in a proposal to develop the KLIA land area within a 10,000ha radius to include a recreation park, business centres, offices and a theme park. “We have already come out with a development proposal and we will announce it in two to three months. The announcement will include all details, including costs as well as the individual development projects of what we intend to do,” he said at a press conference after attending the launch of the airport’s 10th anniversary celebrations here Tuesday. Bashir said a year-long series of activities was also planned in conjunction with the anniversary celebrations, capped by a birthday bash and a grand dinner in June. “These include a shopping campaign, tele-match, open-day safari, a KLIA run, a photo exhibition and a golf tournament,” he said. Asked if the airport would offer financial incentives to airlines operating from KLIA as part of its celebration, Bashir said it was already offering world-class services at one of the lowest rates. “We have already put into place various incentives for airlines throughout the year,” he said, adding that MAB also planned to expand the capacity of its retailers’ base by 30%. “The expansion will be completed within 18 months,” he said. Bashir declined to reveal the names of airlines MAB was in talks with to fly to KLIA. During the launch, MAB also modelled its new uniform for its frontline desk staff and a new logo to commemorate its anniversary celebrations.

Yeah...couldn't agree more..

Anyway..shouldn't it be having an airport in the forest, forest in the airport concept? What's this business centre and offices all about then?

Change in uniform and logo..Is it necessary?

I disagree. Another waste of taxpayers' money. Efforts should be made (meaning fund should be channelled) to lure more BIG airlines to fly into KUL and improve the airport services. KUL only have a bank recently to begin with. No free cinema, no gym unlike in SIN. Will the BIG airlines fly to KUL if KUL has a theme park? Will SIN and BKK feel threathen by KUL having a theme park?

Or MAHB sees that airport business is not making any progress, thus decided to venture into new business, i.e. managing a theme park which is located in the middle of an oil palm plantation some 70 km away from Kuala Lumpur?

What next, KUL golf resort isn't it?

As the people in power don’t have justification to build 2nd satellite terminal yet, they need to find something else to build. Otherwise, they don’t have project to channel money to their pockets.

The more losses MAHB incurred from operating the theme park, more reason for them not to pay gomen concession fees.

Some silly idea from the dinosaurs at THAT airport operator, headed by an old white-haired grandpa dinosaur.

They couldn't manage the F1 circuit effectively in the past, a serious motorsport facility. Now want to play merry-go-round in a silly themepark under the hot sun?!

Dear MAHB,

Instead of a theme park, how about a more decent website for KLIA to begin with?

Yours truly,

A fan of Changi International.

P.S. I suspect the head honcho of MAHB gets his secretary to print out emails. Otherwise, he/she would have noticed how pathetic the KLIA website is. Also, KLIA has some 4 miserable computers to serve passengers in the satellite building - for an aiport located within the much vaunted MSC (or is that a dead concept already), this is pathetic.

Free Cinema = Free RTM1 & RTM2 with loud blaring sound from the TV speakers. (First class Airport but third world movie entertainment) :drinks:

Well Done MAB for the year 2008, laughing stock of the year. :pardon:

That would be a fabulous idea. But some early MAS B737-200 would have either crashed or broken up by now. It would make a centerpiece exhibit. I think there is one surviving plane from the initial order that became 9M-AQL-AQQ

whatever laaa MAB. <_ just don touch weather centre and obs hill ok>

Remember the KLIA masterplan shown at LIMA recently. Look at the massive developments: between the mosque area (bottom right) and present MTB + between Jln Pekeliing (F1 is top left) and 14L/32R + additional runways & terminals.

In order to fill up the huge space, I guess some einstein came up with the theme park idea ... and yes, there's at least one golf course there (bottom right). I also think the days for obs hill and weather station are numbered.
