MH to London Gatwick

Recommended Posts

Just found out that from 22 June 2008, MH will be operating 2 flights per week between KUL and LGW, using B772. I wonder if these flights will be permanent, or just seasonal to supplement the double daily B744 out of LHR?

Its good to know that London finally gets the 777! ;)

That doesn't make sense IMO... Even though LHR has slot limitations that move still can't be justified. That'll make pax more confusing about their final destination, not to mention Gatwick is farther than Heathrow to London.

And not to mention the additional cost for operating in TWO airports in the same city...

I dont know what the management is thinking off. Previously they suspended the 3rd flight to LHR giving the rights to other airlines and now they are planning to fly to Gatwick. That's rather stupid.

Are the LHR frequencies being maintained ?

Mere speculation on my part here, but possibility is there for those priceless MAS LHR slots to be auctioned off to highest bidder, operations to be shifted to (presumably cheaper) LGW gradually as and when additional slots come available there ? :D

Hey, if they can resort to dishing out sand-wic snackboxes in name of cost containment, ........ ! :)

May be they try to get $$$$ by selling their slot at LHR and operate from LGW cuz it's cheaper there than LHR?

Just wondering, is there any source of information regarding this issue?

I dont mind MH flying into LGW. Heathrow is a complete shambles. One might argue that LGW is further from Central London compared to LHR, but there is a non-stop Gatwick Express that takes you to and from Central London in just 30 minutes. The journey is more comfortable compare to taking the slow London Underground to Heathrow, and although the train ticket costs more, this can be partially offset by a lower airport tax at LGW.

I really hope that LGW will work out for MH... however I doubt the frequency of 2x per week will attract any premium traffic. They should do at least daily like EK and QR. :D

I see. Slightly off the topic, KUL-MFM is also MH7xxx series. Does this mean Macau is not a permanent destination for MAS? They have been operating 3 flights per week for quite sometime.

hahaha...its so funny. looks like LGW is a seasonal destination.

I won't be surprised as some of you mentioned above that MH might sell off their lucrative LHR slots and go for LGW.

Airlines are scrambling for a share of LHR slots but MH is not making any money.

I am speechless really.

KUL-MFM is 6 weekly now (except Friday) using EQV (B734/A332/A333/B772(?)) for MH 7254/5 and B734 for MH 7056/7.

So how do I get a ticket for my flight back to KUL from LGW. I have tried the MAS website but there does not seem to be such a flight in the booking section.

Any ideas?

Desmond, are you currently in the UK?

MH LGW-KUL flights are already bookable via the major online travel agents such as www.expedia.co.uk, www.opodo.co.uk and www.ebookers.com. You might also want to try some other smaller travel agents who specialise in far east / australasia deals such as www.rexair.co.uk, www.leestravel.com

Don't get the wrong idea that MH ex-LGW flights will be cheaper, you will be disappointed. Travelling to KL in July is £660 return inclusive. Emirates who recently up their fare ex-UK is still £180 cheaper at £480 return inclusive!

Hi H C Chai,

Yes I am based in the UK.

Thanks for the bookable details that you have provided. I get your point that it is cheaper to fly with alternative airlines. Last yearI saved nearly £1200 for my family and me to fly to Malaysia for the summer. I will look at the details that you kindly provided.

In A.Net, an A.Netter mentioned that MH initiated this flight (KUL-LGW) because of 'certain someone in Brighton'. Who is the person? Should be someone very influential.

Oh dear, it looks like MAS doesn't even start the LGW service with a good reason!!!

I really hope that LGW will work for MAS, but 2x per week just isn't good enough!

i concur. that is probably why MH can't make money on the route. certain 'people' use their first class service free of charge.

Downing bottles of Dom, then 'tapau-ing' caviar and bottles of Dom yet again. Can someone vouch for the authenticity of this rumour?

In the airline business, I have observed their 'Don't know', 'Don't Talk' 'Don't Tell' principles, so I don't think anyone would tell :). But hope someone will break the Code of Silence so entrenched in the industry.

But about the dah-ling, a family member actually met with the lady in person ;)
