MH's New ASEAN Destinations

Recommended Posts

MH 852/853 PEN-SIN vv daily will be reduced to 3 weekly.

MH 674/677 SIN-LGK vv 3 weekly will be replaced by MH 674/677 SIN-PEN-LGK vv 4 weekly. There will be no more SIN-LGK vv flight.

MH 630/631 BKI-SIN vv 3 weekly will be terminated.

But as always, for business sustainability, all these cuts and terminations are needed by MH to stay profitable. It is interesting to note that for the PEN-SIN sector, MH gone from daily to 3 weekly while AK will be going DOUBLE DAILY after just operating the route for a couple of months.

MH still don’t seem to understand what regular business travelers want :pardon:

It is now confirmed that the 3 weekly KUL-MEL via CGK will replace the existing direct KUL-MEL on Tue, Thu and Sat (ex KUL) and every Wed, Fri and Sun (ex MEL) beginning 15 September. Therefore, no increase in frequency in this route.

So more pax may opt to go on D7 since their flight is non-stop. If that happens, D7 might increase the frequencies to MEL in view of their blocked plans to fly to SYD.

Your business model will be flawed if you do not understand what your customers want. Well run businesses put their customers' needs as top priority because without customers, there will be no business.

An interesting development is happening on the KUL-MEL vv sector. While MH pulled out 3 weekly flights from the non stop roster to form the direct flights via CGK, D7 has decided to up their game with 12 weekly non stop flights (from daily). So now MH has 14 weekly flights (11 non stop and 3 direct via CGK) and D7 has 12 weekly flights (all non stop) into Tullamarine.

On one side, D7 may be left with no choice - having received 2 new A333s and one more will be arriving before the year ends but was declined from serving destinations that they fancy (SYD and ICN) by the government 'to protect' certain quarters - leaving the carrier with no choice other than increasing capacity/frequency on its current routes.

However on the other hand, as the global economy picks up, this may well give D7 a massive potential to own the bigger slice of the pie (of the route's market share). It is the exact same tactic that EK has been doing in a few of its routes - flooding it with extra capacity, which in impact will force competitors (in this case - MH) to reduce capacity/frequency [in response to the supply and demand] and lower their fares [to protect their load factor] (both are happening as we speak!!!) and eventually will be bleeding badly before ultimately pulled out from the route. New airlines as well will find such route unattractive. I bet no Australian airlines are interested to ply the MEL-KUL vv route after this.

So good luck to both MH and D7, and may the best airline wins LOL.

Oh by the way, D7 also increase KUL-OOL non stop vv from 6 weekly to daily. In comparison, MH still serve BNE 5 weekly direct flights via SYD.

Looking at KUL/FCO in April 2010, EK quoted about RM4,000; MH only left with Flex fare at RM17,500.

MH is having a bounty year ahead :good: Is MH going to increase frequency to FCO?

But MAS is always so expensive. Their air fare is only cheap when they are having some promotion but usually even the lowest fare type is more expensive especially when you compare to those middle eastern carriers.

I believe those travel agents have reserved most of the economy class seats for travel in April 2010. Which is why the reservation system is showing only the Flex Fare available at the moment. They will start dumping the seats as April 2010 approaching and the cheapest air fare will suddenly pop up again :)

Very true! Based on my many dummy booking experiences from MH's website, for some destinations, it is VERY wrong to book like 6 months in advance, because you'll end up paying a full fare ticket (Y class) instead. I am not sure whether all these are intentional on MH's part or there are bugs in the online booking system that they don't know how to fix but we'll see whether such occurence will happen again with the new booking system that MH is about to reveal.

It seems MH is having a unique pricing strategy from other legacy airlines or the stock is still controlled by ‘war lords’. Which means IJ didn’t manage to dismantle war lords fortress in controlling stocks. :pardon: :sorry:

Again, true to its new direction outlined by the new MD/CEO, MH will increase its frequency on the KUL-BLR vv route by April 2010. India was previously being highlighted as the region that the airline will focus. BLR will be served 5 weekly and gradually will be daily, up from the present 4 weekly service. This is positive news!

MAS to add flights on KL-Bangalore route

MALAYSIAN Airlines is expected to increase the frequency on its Kuala Lumpur-Bangalore route gradually starting April next year to meet needs of businessmen and the tourism sector.

The national carrier is expected to increase the number of flights to five and gradually add more for flights to be on a daily basis in about a year''s time, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed told reporters yesterday.

He said he had been informed of the development by Malaysian Airlines, which is now flying four times a week on the route.

Indian businessmen have been requesting for a daily flight between Bangalore and Kuala Lumpur in order to boost trade and investment between the two countries, pointing out that more air connections were currently available with Bangkok and Singapore than Kuala Lumpur.

Air connection is important not only for business links but also tourism, said Mustapa who is currently in India to lead a trade and investment mission to Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The minister said there was big potential for increased trade, investment and tourism ties between the two countries, and Malaysia needed to be more aggressive in promoting them.

According to him, Malaysia is an attractive tourist destination for many Indians.

Mustapa said there was also potential to attract more high net worth individuals in India to buy properties in Malaysia and participate in the country's "My Second Home" programme.

So far, he said only about 500 Indians have join the programme which offered benefits that included multiple visa entry.

"We believe the potential is more and with the mission we have mounted this time, there will be more interest on the part of the high net worth individual in India to purchase properties in Malaysia," he added.

On the outcome in Mumbai which marked the second stop for the Malaysian delegation, Mustapa said 96 business meetings were held with the Indian business community, and discussions were fruitful although still exploratory in nature.

He said there were already firm commitments from Indian businessmen to visit Malaysia and find out more about potential businesses. - Bernama

Good to see that their adding more flights. Thanks for the news Azizul.

Tho i always wonder, Why is it that airlines from India are only flying to kul thru chennai and not other points in India to Malaysia. Is there some sort of agreement in place where they're given only selected number of flights and from specific points?

Flights to Chennai are constantly full out of Malaysia. Load has always been good on the MAA flights but not so much with all other Indian cities such as DEL, BOM, BLR etc. MH even once deployed the 744 on this sector.

MH adds KUL-BNE vv 2 weekly beginning 28 March 2009. Good progress. No mention of the equipment, but I suspect it will be on the B772. This 2 new flights will give BNE 7 weekly connections to/from KUL, 2 non-stop and 5 via Sydney on the outbound journey.

MAS launches direct KL-Brisbane flights

MALAYSIA Airlines will launch two new weekly non-stop flights from Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane effective March 28, 2010. The flight on Fridays and Sundays will complement its current five times weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Brisbane via Sydney, the national carrier said in a statement today.

The two flights will depart Kuala Lumpur at 9am, arriving in Brisbane at 6.55pm on the same day, it said. Flights will leave Brisbane at 11.20pm, arriving in Kuala Lumpur the next morning at 5.45am.

Malaysia Airlines Regional Manager Australia, New Zealand and South West Pacific, Abd Manaf Harun said: "We are delighted to provide these new direct flights in response to customer feedback. For long haul flights, customers want the assurance of comfort, convenience and seamless travel which we provide. The new Friday services will appeal to Malaysian leisure travellers as they are able to maximise their holiday time and commence it at the start of the weekend."

According to Abdul Manaf, customers are also assured of easy train connectivity to the Gold Coast as flights will arrive at 6.55pm. "Likewise, Australian travellers returning home will appreciate the Sunday early evening arrival as that would give them time to rest before heading back to the office on Monday," he explained.

Malaysia Airlines connects to five destinations in Australia - Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. It also offers a total of 46 weekly services to Australia. - Bernama

The first news from the MH Rumour Department in 2010 is... a good news!

MH will introduce a new daily KUL-CGK flight MH 712/713 departing KUL at 07:50 beginning 28 March 2010. However, this development will resulting in the daily flight MH 710/711 to be downgraded from A333 to B734/B738.

MH will also add a 3rd daily flight into SGN (except on Sunday) flight MH 766/767 using B734.

AK has also increased their KUL - CGK frequency recently from 6x daily to 7x daily.

My flight out to CGK on MH 711 on 23rd Dec was on an A332. Not sure if it was a once off or a capacity adjustment.

The much anticipated pdf version of MH's new timetable is finally available to be downloaded on the airline's website. http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/uploads/en/downloads/common/etable_february.pdf

Some findings:

  • There is no more non stop KUL-BWN vv flight. All flights are via BKI and KCH and from there onwards the journey to BWN will be with BI. There is a daily non stop flight but they are all code share with BI, flying on BI's aircraft.
  • MH has now 5 non stop KUL-DXB vv flights, up from 3 previously. There is also 2 weekly flights via KHI.
  • There seems to be a mistake, since there are only a daily KUL-MEL vv flight and 6 weekly KUL-KIX vv flight being mentioned. Should be double daily, isn't it? KIX is also now (for flight MH 52) being served with the A333, from B772. Also a mistake on KUL-PER vv flight, only 3 weekly? Why so many mistakes this time around?

Either they are genuine mistakes or maybe they are actually decreasing frequencies ?

It's probably full of mistakes...MH still operates direct, nonstop to BWN from KUL, 4 x a wk.

MH to serve 5 new destinations in China - Chengdu, Wuhan, Guilin, Nanning and Changsha - through code share agreement with CZ.

MAS to serve 5 more China destinations

Published: 2010/04/12

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) (3786) passengers can now fly to five more destinations in China besides the six already served by the airline.

MAS senior general manager (network & revenue management) Dr Amin Khan, in a statement yesterday named the new destinations as Chengdu, Wuhan, Guilin, Nanning and Changsha.

The six destinations already served are Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Xiamen and Hong Kong.

He said the new destinations were added on through a code-share arrangement between MAS and China Southern Airlines, adding that passengers could fly into Ghangzhou and connect to the five new destinations.

"It's even easier now for our customers to travel to China. The expansion of our partnership with China Southern enables our customers to fly to 95 destinations from Guangzhou and 38 from Beijing.

"Customers will also enjoy seamless and hassle-free services as they will be able to connect directly to their final destination with the 'through check-in' services offered," he said.

Amin Khan said that with the economic recovery, more customers were flying to China whereby the load for the existing six destinations was in the region of 75 per cent.

He said customers could also enjoy the comfort of new planes when Malaysia Airlines starts deploying its new A330-300 aircraft for these routes early next year.

He said that from Kuala Lumpur, MAS flies seven times weekly to Guangzhou and Beijing, 14 times weekly to Shanghai and Hong Kong and three times weekly to Kunming and Xiamen.

China Southern Airlines, he said, offered flights 14 times weekly from Guangzhou to Chengdu and Wuhan and seven times weekly from Guangzhou to Guilin, Changsha and Nanning. - Bernama

CZ also operates a daily flight into PEN now.
